That trumpet/bass aria just KILLS me!!
I wish I could go back into time and walk into a church in Germany to see how these were being performed. More and more I see the importance of steady timing in Bach's works. Not too fast, not too slow but always steady. Like the gears of a "universal" clock. If there is too much phrasing they aren't getting it right.
That is nature of Bach. Nature of Beethoven and Wagner is diffrent story'.🙏

I found the exact same tune as J.S Bach's trio (BWV 528) at 19:06.
ha, you're right. The Old Wig recycled himself all the time! Good observation!
On the contrary, he recycled the sinfonia from this cantata for the trio sonata. The cantata was written in 1723, the Trio in 1727.

bachs first written in leipzig cantata. the week before he performed one that he had written in cothen. an article in a paper said that this cantata was received very well. hard to believe that almost every week for years after this these brand new never performed cantatas were heard by the churches that bach provided music for. bach did not have the thomas church buy the library of music written by the guy he replaced. bach had other ideas in mind for sure. i love it when the music elite of the day talk about bachs melodies.....they said his melodies were "strange"..... that was not a slight....more that his melodies were complex and interesting as opposed to other composers who were mostly all more popular than he was composer wise. dont forget he was not even one of the top contenders for the job as cantor. he was not known for his composing, but for his keyboard playing. there were a few folks there who knew, but not a lot. bach is the greatest musical mystery there is.

Die Himmel erzählen die Ehre Gottes,
und die Feste verkündiget seiner Hände Werk.

da man nicht ihre Stimme höre.

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the firmament shows His handiwork.
There is no speech or language,
since one does not hear their voices.

So läßt sich Gott nicht unbezeuget!
Natur und Gnade redt alle Menschen an:

Daß sich die Himmel regen

Richard, why would I hate you as a Christian. Everyone has the unalienable right to his / her religion. As long as he / she respects someone else's right to believe differently. Religion is highly personal; it's what George Carlin expressed in one of his shows: "thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself".
But there is no reason I could think of, why I should hate a Christian just because of his religious beliefs.... Perish the thought!
