These relaxed tempos are a pleasure to listen to. We are able to easily appreciate the intricate polyphony and harmonic structure - and savor each measure. 👍❤️

It was apparently incomprehensible to Karl Richter that Bach would use the style of a FRENCH ouverture in a sacred work. Richter belonged to a generation who was brought up to detest everything French. So the dotted rythm is here "Germanized" as far as possible, with disastrous result. Sadly, he does so consistently in Bach's cantata French ouvertures.

C'est un peu bête de dire que Richter détestait tout ce qui était Français. Aurais t-il pris Pierre Thibaud ou Maurice André au sein de son orchestre? Pourquoi aurait-il donné un concert fantastique à Notre-Dame de Paris et fait des concerts en France?

Richter was conducting slow yes, but it is impeccable; I quite enjoy it in his version; the masses I can't listen to this slow but for the cantatas it's ok
