A great version of this wonderful cantata, and we are lucky to have such a good quality recording. But there is room to like this as well as some of the more recent "historical" versions, including in particular those by the Netherlands Bach Society and the Ricercar Consort - both performed by truly great orchestras and soloists, at tempi that capture the essence of the work.
Excitement, brilliance, exuberance galore move the listener to haste to run to the manger and see the glory displayed there. RIchter and the Munich Bach chor and orchestra are at their best here. There is nothing anywhere that approaches this kind of performance today. It's special that we have these performances for posterity. Few period instrument groups can equal this kind of Bach approach. The soloists were also special. Christians, etch this day in metal and marble! Come and hurry with me to the manger and show with happy lips your thanks and your duty; for the ray, that breaks forth there, reveals itself to you as the light of grace.
THANK YOU THERE IS NOBODY LIKE RICHTER AND HIS WONDERFUL MUSICIANS AND SINGERS FOR SINGING BACH FROM THE HEART VIELEN DANK
nobody like Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau either
Immer ausgezeichnet!
I have to agree with the comment below. Truly, Richter was the greatest of interpreters. And the greatness of these singers!
Love this way of interpreting Bach with joy, brio, passion and deep-surrounding sound that only Richter did. The best!!!

😆

Karl Richter zeigt, wie Bach klingen kann!!!
Genialisch
Wie stark ist nicht dein Zauberton, Herren Bach/Richter!
I agree: in Bach cantatas, Richter is the best
Richter. Nothing else.
Why is this joyful cantata, the 'Christmas' cantata, not sung live in churches and concert halls at Christmas time?

DANCHESCION
Is this music by Bach? Are the singers Terrestrial or Venusians? OK, well, we accept octopus as a pet.
interesting, but not ideal and also kind of obsolete. would have been interesting to here Gundula Janowitz in the soprano part.
