The company I work with prefers the 52” more than the 61”, the reason why for us at least is because then your going around properties you can get closer to the side of the house or the side of curved retaining walls better than with a 61” and that for us is less weedeating, so for me 52”
I have a landscaping company, and we have been running Ferris mowers since the early 90's. (Just purchased a new one first of the week) They are by far the best mower on the market. We are running 9 of the 3200 with the 37HP Vanguards now. We are looking at the ZX3 for our next purchase. Thank you for the video.
Helpful! Planning to drive 300 miles for a 61" z3 demo for half price with 200 hours. Do you feel it is good on steepish hills? Or is lighter z2 better? Thanks!
Great job showing and telling, on the 61” I am going with the 60” . They say they got that that go’s on the Z3 , 2024 I’ll get it about January or February. I just ordered it, wish me luck on the dealer is telling me right. Have a good one see ya next time see ya bye.
Looks like a money maker. Great video! I’m an Exmark guy but you have opened my eyes to other brands. I prefer 52” for residential lawns that under 1/4 acre. Anything bigger I use my 61” Lazer. My biggest money maker is my 36” Vantage. I have been blessed with owning a 32”, 36”, 52” and a 61”.
thank you so much for posting this... i ordered 52" in december but today they say they won't make a z3 this year... looking for a NOS 61 and hoping to find it
Brian....I used to think 52 was too large a mower for many properties. We bought Ferris 61 for larger open properties. Funny thing though...after more time & experience we ended up using the 61 more & more. They each have their place. Ferris makes a great machine. We have all Vanguard EFI. We also run mulching kits. Throwing grass in mulch beds is a no no. The blocker plates are ok but can leave a windrow of grass that looks bad. If you haven't tried a Ferris ZTR, you should. The suspension ride is amazing. Good luck in your decision.
Grass flap is the best on z’s and stand ons. Two ways to look at deck size, a 48/52 gets you in more spots and is more suited on postage stamps. A 60 moves quicker and covers more footage per pass getting you done quicker. And atleast looks decent on small residentials. I moved from a 52 to a 60 and noticed marginal gains in time efficiency, but it shaved a few minutes from each spot and it added up turning 6 days into 5 days. Then I moved to a 72 and turned 5 days into 3 days. The more you mow, the more you make.😁
I'm a front mount mower guy but my buddy begged me to try the new Spartan SRT-HDD diesel mower and HOT DAMN!!! That thing holds a hill almost as well as a 8 wheel Ventrac or Steiner !!! And the cut quality is pretty good. That 1.1L CAT diesel is pretty sweet also, Feels like it has more torque than the Kubota 1.3L diesel. I still feel safer on the Ventrac or Steiner but that Spartan SRT-HDD will go up a 36 degree hill on dry grass no problem
My company uses Ferris exclusively. All 52". We service approximately 400 small properties weekly and they hold up great. Both stand on and walk behinds are kept until about 1300 hours (2 seasons) and traded in for shiny new toys.
52 all day. We use a 36", 48" and a 52" for all of our properties (all of them being gravely mowers). We have a 60" but we only use it for fall/spring cleanups for the extra room of leave mulching, if all you are doing to mowing grass the 52 is just the right size to get the properties done and leave a nice amount of stripes. If you have multiple commercial properties then by all means buy a 60" and use it then to get them done faster and move onto the next. Just my two cents! Awesome video as always Brian (still waiting for that gravely review....)
Bought a 52” z2 last season, got the 61” this season and love both but the 61” is my fave...hats off to the folks at Ferris-they got it so right, the only thing I don’t like is...u know what I can’t think of anything!
How about the constant howl of the 5400 tranny or whichever they use this year.? I don't hear anything from the Grandstand with it's 12cc hydros. Less gears less noise more power.
52" stand on throws less grass, you'll find yourself mowing the property the same way each week (bad) 52" easier to change cutting pattern. Shoot blocker is a must have and is the best choice. No matter which deck size you choose, don't mow the same way every week. You are a professional with nice equipment, good service is becoming second to making money.
Brother, I bought a SRS Z2 this spring and I am in love with it! I only cut 13 yards a week but love my 61in deck. I do both small and medium size residential yards and can fit that deck anywhere! Enjoy that Ferris!
Awesome stripes! Deck size would depend on the lot size that you are targeting. For smaller gated subdivision lots you would probably want a 36 inch z1 to get through the gates. For me I have the 52 inch z2 and I love the cut, stripes, ride and reliability of this tank. Prior to my purchase, I researched these standers to death and I don’t think you can beat the Ferris!
52 over 61. im a fellow lawncare professional. and doing commercial and residential properties, i thought having the 61 would be better but i find it cumbersome at times and the extra deck width gets in the way when using it for residential lawns. especially when they are over grown. chute blocker only does so much
It's property dependent on 61" or 52". Can't tell you what to do, but I use a 54", best of both worlds, still fits in small places (not like a 48" though), but wide enough to cut time as well as grass. I use it in residential and commercial settings and love it. Modded Dixie Chopper Stryker stand on
I know that I am not a professional mower by any means (i.e. mowing is not my job). But when I do mow during the weekends I mow both extremely small and large yards. And I currently mow with a 48" John Deere Zero turn mower (again I know that stand on mowers vs. sit on can act differently). But I have also mowed with a 61" deck in the same yards before and between the 48" and the 61" I would take the 61" deck any day of the week.
i would recommend the 52", it will reduce trimming around obstacles the 61" cant fit around, it would be more maneuverable, and save you maybe 500-800 in cost. it would add about 5 minutes tops to your mowing time though.
I’m old fashion, I have two Ferris is4500z. They are maintenance hogs but love them. I am in the market for Ferris your testing out. Thanks for the video. Ferris is an awesome product hands down.
The 61 lays better stripes I believe. I have used both and take both with me when I have to get through a narrow gate. I’m 3 years late on this post, but it still mows the same lol
@@dejaesharp It only makes sense. Was not sure if they equip it with wider rims/tires and that balances out the difference, but sounds like the z2 is better. I will have to measure the slope tomorrow and think on it a bit. Thank you!
Brian, it depends on your size of lawns. if most of yours are this size or bigger and gate widths are not an issue, then go for the 61" as time is money. Also, the levelness of the yards has a factor as the bigger the deck, the higher the risk of scalping on uneven surfaces.
We have a ferris 2500 with the 24 hp diesel engine. Put around 200 hours on it when it started leaking a insane amount of radiator coolent. Took it to the dealer thinking it would be under warranty. But they said that they couldn't cover it. The mower had been put together wrong from the factory and cost us $1200.
52 vs 61 really depends on the property. You do such a mix of resi vs commercial its hard to say. 52 on resi lawns works better most of time I have seen but a 61 has great potential for time savings on the larger resi lawns and the commercial. I still think you will find yourself eventually getting two standers for the perfect mix of deck sizes for all the areas you service. Either that or start to go more towards only residential or only commercial accounts like some companies have done in my area so they can focus on just a few types of equipment and operations and do that really well and stay competitive in the pricing game!
Get a Grass Flap. You operate with a foot pedal and keeps your hands safe on the steering. If your going to use it as your main mower get a 60 inch. Thats what your use to already. I have a 60 and 48 in exmark. Properties are like yours. I run a 2 man crew, I use the 48 on the front and 60 in the back, 2 trimmers and 2 backpack blowers.
At work we have a 60" toro stander And its a beast. I wouldn't go smaller the 60" but wherw I live we have a ton of big proerties but if you are in town a lot then maybe 52".
I’m saying the 61 so if you have those big props you can fly thru them. That stand on is getting me excited. I currently have the 3200z sit on zt which has the suspension. This thing looks like it is pretty easy on the user too. I would want to feel it on some flat out flying across some ground at full speed to see how much you bounce around.
I think it depends on what's on your trailer every day. If you keep the 60" lazer on there, which I would, I don't know what you plan on, a 52 seems like a better option so that you have a smaller machine for tight spots and a larger one for open areas. If you're looking for a new one-stop kind of machine, a 60 seems like the best option for time savings on the bigger yards.
I have a qwikchute on mine. I like it better than others I’ve used. I feel like it’s smoother and much easier than the ones with twisting handle. Also I run a 52. I feel like it’s the best size for multiple sized residential lots. Especially ones with smaller side yards where house are closer together. If you already have a 61 ztr I’d consider adding a 52 when you buy a stander. I do love that wide stance of that Z3.
Brian I use the OCD-2 from Exmark but that’s cause it works great on that. 2nd of all your stand on demos yet his Ferris is the leader. I actually slow mo and enlarged the video being a nerd today. The cut quality blows the SCAG away and it striped even better than anything you’ve demoed yet. I’d say you only have 4 brands left to demo (Wright, John Deere, Toro/Exmark). You need a 52” stand-on honestly not a 60/61.
We run 61 because we do bigger yards and they are super efficient, the other reason why we run 61 is on smaller yards we just run the 48 in walk behind. But it is just on your preference.
Go with a 52 for sure if doing primarily residential. I have a husqvarna PZ54, 54" deck, and I barely squeeze through some gates. I'd actually like to even get something like a 48 or less for those small right lawns.
Here is my thoughts on 60 inch plus mowers. If you have 5-10% of accounts where you can justify a 60 + inch stripe, do it up! Save that time and make more money. Otherwise, keep it smaller, lighter, burn less fuel and let those stripe have room to move and shake. Finishing a yard in 2 swipes is great, but would it look better with 1 or 2 more stripes in there?
Love that mower. Got the looks, the cut, and it goes with truck and trailer. 61 inch looks huge . Need to see the 52 before I can make up my mind. Might trade mine for a Ferris 😀
Go with 61" . Your using it on the smaller yards so it will work for you. Plus say you buy a 52" because of properties you have now and you pick up a few bigger properties you will wish you had the 61". Also put a power chute grass flap on it with the toggle on the dash. We run them on our 2 661r stand one and toro 72" riders. The cut of the ferris looks great. I have demoed them in past years. My question is how well does it discharge the grass in damp or wet conditions as far a clumps?
I’m not an expert but I’d say it largely depends on the types of properties that you have and accessibility through tall of them. You already have the bigger mower deck so I don’t think you’re losing anything by staying with a larger deck. From the looks of this stand on and the job that it did on just the few yards that were on this video I love it. As you said it is a tank and is very wide. I’d be curious how it does on hillsides if you have those on your client list. Great videos. I always enjoy watching them. Keep up the great work.
I dont think its as simple as asking subscribers what size deck to get. You know best which deck is best for YOUR use. When I had my company, I would have used the smaller deck because soo many lawns here are very hilly. If all your stuff is relatively flat, then go bigger. None of my lawns were as flat as what I see you maintenance. If I ever get back to where I can work, and can do physical work, I will certainly look at Ferris after seeing the two videos so far.
Brian I am in an exact situation than you...I currently have a Gravely 60" sit down zero turn with a triple vac system and love it for fall time and bagging leaves. My 48" walk behind is old POS and I want to upgrade to a stand on. Im contemplating getting rid of my zero turn and just buy two stand ups a 61" and either a 36" or a 48" but im afraid to part with my zero turn with the vac. I demoed a 48" Gravely stand on and I loved it. I priced the Ferris out and was blown away with the value and pricing ! They are the cheapest by Far !! You gotta be honest would you get rid of your zero turn for this Ferris 61" stander ?
Thanks for showing off this particular mower. I've always wanted to see it in action. I did see the deck tilt slightly on different terrain. Center balance is near perfection in a fast 1080 spin and doesn't throw you off the mower like most other stand up mowers. But the cons of the video? Your mowing is sub par. Too many passes and that is the result of your entry point. You stay on the same lines over and over which hurts the lawn by matting down the lawn. Best to not use a stripper. I can lay lines with it a stripper nearly as good by overlapping only an inch... I am from Michigan (now living in Florida with about 14 years exp) and I never understood that whole obsession with striper bars to make lines which I've actually only used them for mulching up clippings by running the mower in reverse so that it flings into the blades.. anyway, I do appreciate the demonstration. It's a solid mower aside from the 60" deck Which is over kill for residential lawns that are better suited for a 52". Perhaps even 48" for tighter areas so that your ground guy doesn't have to weedeat afew acres around obsticles a lawn. PS, I enjoyed your Scag field test vs your exmark. ***Lastly, I really like that quick shute***
The sales guy at Massey where I bought my tractor was telling me how great these are I want one now. as for deck size my tractor is a 60" it does great but if I was to get a zero turn I think 52 would be nice only because my yard has some bumps and dips.
Only you would be able to tell which size mower you need. You know the size of the properties that you have an account for. If the majority of your properties are like the first one, then you need the smaller one. If the majority of your properties are are pike the second one, then go with the larger deck. So you tell us which one you need.
Hey Brian Big Truck Big Rv just gave you a shout out on his live feed👍 very cool bro!!!!!! It's always nice to see good following of people throughout YT!
We run 2 52 inch mowers. We do cemetaries in our town and a 52 just barely fits so we cant go bigger even tho we have some very large 2 acre lawns that a 61" would be nice on.
It’s a vey Good mower few more bells and Whistles than the Z2 61” which I have, strips very nice . Have you seen how it can hills? Mine holds them very well. Thanks for the video.
I am adding the power chute to mine, when I was watching you mow my lawn I think that the handle was too far out to the side and it seemed awkward for you to get to. I like the foot petal too.
What do you guys think about the new Ferris Z3X?
Brian's Lawn Maintenance With Ferris you get a beefy mower for the price I think. Needs a Kawasaki engine on it tough
The 3x is an awesome mower. I wouldn't buy such a large mower because it wouldn't fit in most of my yards. I will be purchasing a z1
Stating again that Ferris has the best warranty in the industry.
It looks like a beast!
Nice stripes
The company I work with prefers the 52” more than the 61”, the reason why for us at least is because then your going around properties you can get closer to the side of the house or the side of curved retaining walls better than with a 61” and that for us is less weedeating, so for me 52”

Once you go Ferris it’s hard to go back to anything else! Amazing machine👍🏻
good to hear. had another brand made in ferris factory but more homeowner, going for z3 if can get hands on it

I have the Z2 52 inch that's all you need for residential yards,it doesnt damage the yards and its really fast and also leaves a good cut.

Truth!
How about the constant howl of the 5400 tranny or whichever they use this year.? I don't hear anything from the Grandstand with it's 12cc hydros. Less gears less noise more power.
I absolutely love my SRS Z2 52” with the oil guard. Going to buy a Z3X soon for my larger properties. I was talking to my dealer today about it

I bought the ferris 400s last month. 48 inch deck, 21.5 hp Kawasaki Vtwin, zero turn. Great mower, for $4995
Joshua Tennell How do you like it so far?
I need a 48”, and can’t make my mind. I’m between a Ferris, John Deere or Scag

dealer sucks. they have no clout with mfg or lied to you.
Greenpea I'm surprised they didn't make the Z3X with an independent front suspension like a 2100z or 3200z sit down
52" all day long. It's the sweet spot.
52. Most definitely! Ferris all the way dude.
Very nice mower. Just bought a Ferris diesel, game changer.
Sweet
The Ferris is looking good!
Love my Ferris SRS Z1 36" with Vanguard 23hp. for my 68 stamp size lawns.
Nice!
That is a sweet mower. I would lean towards the 52 if most of your lawns are that size. Definitely matches up well with your logo.
Love that mower. Got the looks, the cut, and it goes with truck and trailer. 61 inch looks huge . Need to see the 52 before I can make up my mind. Might trade mine for a Ferris 😀
Thats a big machine the cut is real nice!!
Love my Ferris 61 inch
Toro grandstand. Hands down the best. And less expensive. 48"- 8200/ 60"-10000. EFI motors.
That zx3 stripes nice! Go ferris!
I love Ferris, best mower ever
Go with 61" . Your using it on the smaller yards so it will work for you. Plus say you buy a 52" because of properties you have now and you pick up a few bigger properties you will wish you had the 61". Also put a power chute grass flap on it with the toggle on the dash. We run them on our 2 661r stand one and toro 72" riders.
The cut of the ferris looks great. I have demoed them in past years. My question is how well does it discharge the grass in damp or wet conditions as far a clumps?
Top Notch lawn care LLC it worked just fine in wet grass. Some clumping but nothing more than my Exmark
61 is the way to go!
52, fits in more spaces
I like the 61 inch Ferris .
That thing looks like a beast!
Totally agree
52' you can do most places. I do grass flap. I have z1 for small residentials too
Brian I am in an exact situation than you...I currently have a Gravely 60" sit down zero turn with a triple vac system and love it for fall time and bagging leaves. You gotta be honest would you get rid of your zero turn for this Ferris 61" stander ?
kevinboo2000 I’ll keep the Z for clean ups. But I’ll be adding a stander for sure by fall.
That Ferris would look great with your logos on it. Nice match to truck and trailer
You bet!
61 in I like matching stripes instead of having a smaller stripe than your everyday mower
52 inch!!!! You have the 61 exmark but its really up to you whatever you think can be the most productive :)
Omg ferris is my new love....wow
Ferris Z3X looks really nice, I'd go with the 52 though with the smaller property
The sales guy at Massey where I bought my tractor was telling me how great these are I want one now. as for deck size my tractor is a 60" it does great but if I was to get a zero turn I think 52 would be nice only because my yard has some bumps and dips.
Brian, How did this mower impact your current productivity on the lawns you mowed? In your video this mower is great.
J Bruce We shave a lot of time from being able to backpack blow and ride the stand on. It’s a game changer for me.
Ferris rules.
In my opinion, if your 60" Lazer Z is paid for, keep it for cleanups since it has the bagger; and get a 60/61" standon mower for regular mowing
Aaron Cover That’s the idea ya
Now I want to buy one
Here in Montana we run nothing but 60+ so it doesn't have to be flat ground
Awesome brother keep up the awesome work
These are nice mowers.
61 all the way
Awesome mower! Good video!
Makes me want to get one and I keep hoping that Ferris rep gets back to me
Only you would be able to tell which size mower you need. You know the size of the properties that you have an account for. If the majority of your properties are like the first one, then you need the smaller one. If the majority of your properties are are pike the second one, then go with the larger deck. So you tell us which one you need.
We use advanced chute system on all our mowers! I have to have them as well!
Hey Brian Big Truck Big Rv just gave you a shout out on his live feed👍 very cool bro!!!!!! It's always nice to see good following of people throughout YT!
That's super cool! I didn't even know he did one. Love JD!
Brian's Lawn Maintenance Who's JD?
We run 2 52 inch mowers. We do cemetaries in our town and a 52 just barely fits so we cant go bigger even tho we have some very large 2 acre lawns that a 61" would be nice on.
It’s a vey Good mower few more bells and Whistles than the Z2 61” which I have, strips very nice . Have you seen how it can hills? Mine holds them very well. Thanks for the video.
Handles hills great!
May have to look in to those
54" best big size that still makes undulating lawns look seamless. I like it, 37hp how is the fuel consumption?
Maybe a gallon per hour. Nothing too different from most units I’ve tested.
more torque , similar fuel use, electronic injection... win win win winning
Looks like a great machine
Told you the Ferris was a beast man!
You and your company look better with the red mowers than the orange scag... just saying lol
Did you pick up that trash around the 8:00 mark that you mowed over
I am adding the power chute to mine, when I was watching you mow my lawn I think that the handle was too far out to the side and it seemed awkward for you to get to. I like the foot petal too.
Austin Denney For sure id have someone fabricate a longer handle no doubt
I love the Z1 48”. I may get this one, the big brother :)
