    Great comparison here and I loved how you threw in the HM pro to further compare, those 2 brands are exactly what I love and are what are in my bag with Ping G410 driver and JPX 919 Forged irons.

    Great comparison Jay! Would’ve liked to see Ping i210 vs. JPX 921 Forged.. think this is a better head to head based on the handicap level each club is designed for which is low to maybe mid (scratch to maybe 10 handicap) and besides these are the 2 I’ll be going to compare next year when i go for my custom fit. Also, The G425 is more geared for a mid to high handicap player, although I wouldn’t mind giving them a try
    All things being equal, does Ping get the nod because of the hydro Pearl finish and the better wet spin retention?? This might be might my deciding factor between the two

    Nice review. It would be nice to see your comparison of the Wilson Staff CB and the Mizuno 921 Forged. Wilson seems to be the low cost Underdog of forged clubs right now, and they follow a traditional loft across the irons. I'm also very curious which of the two is more forgiving.

    Great review, I love both clubs I have a set of JPX-EZ's that replaced a set of Ping Zing iorns, the one thing I do like with the Pings I have is there is no forgiveness and you must learn to hit the ball properly. For pure fun and enjoyment the JPX are amazing. I am going to the 425s now to work on my stopping power, the JPX just seem to overshoot a bit much. Will I keep my JPX's you bet great guest set and still enjoyable.

    Any chance the 3124 spin on the 425 was a misread by the launch monitor. 7 mil high isn’t great but I don’t think it’s 3000 less rpm bad. I only ask because I recently went on Trackman and occasionally the spin number would appear in an italicized font. The fitter told me that was a misread in spin and the different font indicates that number was estimated.
    HM Pro looks to be the winner overall 💪

      Both these will work then Mark, the other HM and HM Pro models are also very good off the toe if not even better. The HM Pro though takes it in the looks stakes and would also be a good option for a blended set with the JPX921 Forged.

    These are always excellent reviews. One question: have you considered bending lofts to make them all equal? The data would then be truly comparable.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      May be so but then golfers never play them at those lofts so trying to get the most common lofts used within a certain iron set is generally why we always test them at that number. 👍
      Good point, well made though 👍

    • @wilhen1
      @wilhen1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AskGolfNut Well if you're not comparing apples to apples, then why compare two models at all? I don't understand why people request comparisons of iron models when they don't have the same loft/length specs. Maybe you could try one video where you bent lofts to be the same and see what your viewer response is. Just a thought. Keep up the good work. I particularly like the mishit data - gives a great idea of real world results.

    Have you done any data gathering on blade forgiveness? Ie When you have done videos that show the diagrams with 100% middle of face, 95% low toes etc.
    I saw one on HMB, Forged, HM but would be interested in MP20 or equivalent.
    I ask because of a video recently of Mark Crossfield swinging left handed with a blade and a GI iron. Surprising results!

      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, to be honest anyone who understands truly the dynamics of loft and forgiveness within that context wasn't surprised. Remember that most of the things you hear by manufacturers and TH-camrs is marketing..... Loft trumps everything, strike is the most important thing and loft for loft game improvement irons aren't much if any different to Blades. Only assist in launch when loft comes off 👍👍

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Philip, it's because due to UK lockdown, I'm the only ones to have hit the clubs. To give an accurate understanding of how the club face works I need a variety of speeds, face to path angles and strikes. Until I'm able to have multiple datasets it would unfair to Ping to give potentially either overly rewarding or overly critical results based on incomplete data.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

  • @philips4169
    @philips4169 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you hit hard, generate a lot of club-head speed be careful buying the new hollow Pings 425's.
    I've seen half a dozen fellas crack theirs clean through the face ... was amazed to see this - gob smacked actually! Not a club for hard hitters. I
    considered buying my new set in the Pings but after a few sim try's, and real grass hits while being watched by the pro at my club driving range trying both out (I also looked at the new Srixons).
    I was advised not to buy the Pings by 4 pro/fitters as I'd have a chance to crack them. I bought the Mizuno forged 921"s with stiff shafts, and they are a superb club for my mid handicap (14). Great feel great distances being achieved great sound great quality great control and forgiving.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Philip thanks for the comment. Personally I haven't seen any failures to date from anyone I've coached of fitted although in comparison to the World I understand my sample is tiny. In that though are some 120+ mph swingers ..... Maybe isolated but always keen to know any potential disturbing trends... If this was the concern though there are a few manufacturers who would have gone out of business already 😊

    • @philips4169
      @philips4169 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AskGolfNut yes mate I’m sure the failures were few. Ping is such a top notch brand. I too was very sceptical when shown the cracked clubs. It was too, from about 5 fitter/repairers so that would equate to thousands of sets sold by them in Australia so that’s few fails. I said to the pros that surely these guys hit something other than a ball or must by extremely strong to do this to a club. Some said they swung hard ie 120 plus speed others said same as me at around 105 110.
      It’ll be interesting as this newer club gets some time behind it to see if we see anymore denting and cracking. They’re beautiful clubs for sure and I had my heart set on them too. But after hitting a few brands as I mentioned the Miz’s were so good and a bit cheaper too. I do use the ping 425 max drivers in my set and they’re superb dogs. Enjoy your clear logical analyses reviews. I’m watching your tutorials too and they’re helping. Next time I’m in the old dart I’ll message you👍

  • @rogertaylor9132

    Quick question or two. If slicers (strong faders :) close the face enough, would you also need to aim right? Another idea which I will test next time, you did a video for seniors where you told them to put the right foot backwards to aid the backswing. If strong faders did this it would make it harder to swing out to in and force them (us) to swing straight. Yes/No?
    Thanks, keep up the great work!

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Roger, technically you are correct. In my coaching, depending on the consistency of the golfer at being able to deliver the technically slightly out to in "wrong" path, I would actively encourage them to understand the potential of them aiming for their miss. If they are hugely out to in or in to out then I would suggest to work on a change of path as it would be quite daft to aim 15 degrees right or left 😊
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

      @@AskGolfNut Hi, thanks for that. As we're talking irons, I'm 57 and suffer from lower back pain and at the moment sciatica as well. When striking ahead of the ball the body movement forwards to move the low point involves bending the right knee which is painful with sciatica at full swing speeds. Question is this, rather than translating left to hit after the ball, can you move the ball backwards and strike from a neutral position as you would if hitting a long iron off a short tee? It would allow you a measure of control over the distance you hit after the ball and I assume the mechanics of the two would be almost identical. Cheers.

    Good series of reviews - thanks.... I have MP18 SC and want to move to JPX for a bit more help with the longer irons.
    Would you blend from Tour in the PW, 9.... 8 & 7 in the Forged then 6 & 5 in the HM Pro? What impact on the clubs is there when you start adjusting loft weaker to blend them in ? (The lofts in each set don’t flow so you may have two 7 irons or two 6 irons unless you adjust loft through a fit). So many questions but can’t get a fitting just now obviously. Cheers
