Hi Ian, Great review and deep thought on the Pocket 3. I still use the Pocket 2 and not as a vlogger but for holidays, travel or just walking. I always have the possibility to create something, capture a moment quickly and easily, without too much effort to dedicate to the equipment... I open and shoot. The more you use it, the more you will discover how that mini gimbal, in its three possible options, can create incredible videos.

Nice one mate! Finally got around to watching it. I'd love to play with some of this footage in a timeline to see how it plays with my other cameras. The image looks really nice - better than the iphone 13 pro footage you shared for sure (this would be my benchmark). Really nice highlight roll-off and no nasty small-lens artifacts.

I watch some football channels- the mobile phone is then a better vlogging option. Get the section recorded at the match and an easier faster upload process

I too have the pocket three and I did get the two year refresh warranty and I think it’s a very good idea to get the warranty not just because of the rotating screen but because it is a delicate piece of equipment and yes DJI is very good with the products and the customer service

I have returned 3 of them ….all of them were defective. 2 of them had gimbal issues. All of them you have to turn off cellular data on iPhone to see videos on 14pro max and 15 pro max. Also this camera can’t handle the suns back light. The low light is good but day time facing the sun was disappointing. I returned them and done with DJI …nice video. I will be sticking with iPhone for nighttime and insta for other videos

I've got the original Osmo Pocket 1 and love it. My mate, who built up his TH-cam channel on the strength of his Osmo 1 and 2 has just bought an Osmo 3 and I is Jealous. However I have to keep she-who-must-be-obayed happy because I've just bought a Mini 4 and Panasonic G9m2.
I very much like the attention to detail that you put into your audio, especially the seal towards the end where you put in a bit of water movement sound as its head broke the surface.
May I suggest when walking that you hold the Osmo like a flashlight/torch rather than holding it vertical. Having the Osmo parallel to the ground helps lessen the up and down of walking. The gimbal lessens the motion. Doesn't get rid but lessens.
Tonight I asked my mate to do a couple of 10 second clips in the garden with virtually no light. I was shocked at how much detail I could recover using Resolve and its Noise Reduction.
MLog gave the best results, which it should with 10bit to play with. However the bog standard Colour Profile which is Rec 709 8bit was a close second. Don't even bother with HLG. It does not play nicely with grading beyond tinkering with exposure.

Regards the low light test you edited. Any idea the ISO used?
@@Ian.A.Anderson in low light, it was ISOd to the max. The unedited 10 second files he sent were practically black frames. At first I wasn’t even going to bother wasting my time. For shits and giggles I gave them a try and was surprised how Resolve could eke out any kind of image at all. It was just an experiment, but I was surprised what the osmo was capable of with the least amount of light possible. Just manage your expectations though.
I like how it seems to capture the real colours rather than overblown, gives it a much more cinematic look. With regards to the broken spring with the screen, some theories are that its happening after putting it in and out of its case as apparently its quite a tight fit around where the screen fits in it. I wish they did different creator packs for example, replace the mic for ND filters or sonething similar, because if you already have a mic, the creator pack maked no sense but it would be good to have the Extra power after the internal battery runs out. Not been able to change the battery i think is a bit daft as once it eventually runs out, the camera is useless. I think the pros outweigh the cons but i may wait a couple of years and see what they bring out next.

please post more videos about the mini 4 pro and other drones i really love your drone content compared to other bigger drone creators i think you are the best one. can you also please make a tutorial on how you color grade your videos because i think the way you color grade your videos are spectacular

Mini 4 Pro/Osmo Pocket 3 is a sweet, portable combo for run & gun, ultra lught gear. Ive got a 1 lb. Carbon Fiber tripod, and it all works a charm. I can move up to Air 3, Insta360 Flow & Samsubg S23 ultra, or all the way to Mavic 3 Pro/Full Frame setup too. Guess which kit works best? 😉
At 9 megapixel this is all video, photos in a pinch. The Mavic Air 2/DJI Air 2S was a different time and sensor tech was different. I doubt Pocket Pro is a thing.
Gigapixel will do wonders on a 9mp photo ;)

Watched a few reviews of this now and the one thing I noticed it quite often blows out , so ND filters would be a must really. By the way the screen protector on the camera negates using the magnetic filters, it's fine on the monitor. Leaves blowing in the wind was cool, inspired me.

Consensus seems to be to lower the EV value by an amount which suits you - 0.7 or even 1.0
Yes I spotted that in reviews@@Ozpeter. But nothing really works better than ND filters, I have a DJI drone and the same applies for that, using the ND filters is a game changer!
Agreed on the nds with these pocket cameras. Still waiting for mine to arrive. Production must just be starting to crank up.

Did you load up a 709 lut for Dlog clips, or did you do simple grade
I used the DJI Lut on some shots but not at full opacity. Mostly manual correction/ grade
With the Mic 2 Transmitter can you buy an additional second person mic without buying the complete set.
Last time I checked you couldn’t but I’m sure eventually you will be able to

No you can use mics fine without Wi-Fi. You just need it to update firmware on the app
IMO - Screen protectors make good sense for action cameras, OP3: not so much. I never put anything over any lens (beside filter/ND ofcourse). Increased likelyhood of losing your magnetic lens with that protector fitted, no? For the benifit of anyone who doesn't know - since this video was posted, the latest firmware enables DLOG M withn 4K 120fps.
What is the name of the track used at 6:30?
Haven’t got the chance to see it for myself in store. I wonder if can you auto-focus and set the f-stop. I love the bokeh look, even if one stands a distance away from the camera. Now it seems the bokeh is only automatically applied when vlogging at an arm’s length, let alone when tracking at a distance
You can’t change the f-stop. It’s set so there’s quite a lot of toneh on normal vlogging distance
You can't change the F stop. It is fixed.

Excellent review. That's a bit of a boo-boo from DJI on the rotating screen. Similar to the Mini 3 Pro with the foggy lens issue (which I had myself). All because of a mis-aligned O-Ring, very amateur. Hopefully, as you say, just a bad batch.
Thanks. Yes I still have memories of Sony releasing the a6300, then less than a year later the a6500 solving the problems. It’s really hard to judge just from Re-edit how bad the screen problem is. Big tech companies make mistakes and early reviews don’t address them

Would like to hear your opinion about the Pocket 3 in a professional work environment. Seems like it's capable enough to be a b cam or specialty cam on a shoot.
Yes it’s amazing for its size. A few shots I was a bit disappointed with but overall brilliant
I was hoping to use it on my small Ratrig slider and get a tracked slide (40mm x2) with a product tracked in centre frame

Think the screen spring break problem will be avoided by holding the screen throughout the movement rather than letting it slam into place.
Another issue with this camera... for vlogging... the wide aperture blurs everything other than your face. Holding it further away might help keep the background in focus.
That wide angle lens is awful.
Rather than holding selfie stick in one hand and camera in the other, DJI have a magic gadget which might be useful, "Osmo Pocket Extension Rod" but that reduces portability.
Think the Pocket 3 is definitely an interesting gadget but far too expensive for what it is.
If the weather is honking and you can't fly the drone, hand hold it. And save nearly £500 😂

It was interesting near the end of this video, when the screen was rotated in such a way that you could see the surface of the glass, and it really did look like there was some flexing going on, because even with gentle rotation, if only one finger is used, it does create a force on the mechanism. On mine, I'm kind of holding the screen with thumb and forefinger, either side, and then rotating it in such a way as rotation is the only force being applied. But maybe we shouldn't need to be that careful.
One of the problems people don't understand physics using one finger to turn the screen. Just like people use to press down at the top of old rc remote controls and belive it will not bend.

Hi Mark. I haven’t used it on this video. I need to test it more but I assume it’s a slightly better version of the same mode on the mini 4 pro. In which case I would stick to Dlog M
I wouldn’t worry DJI will look after you I crashed my mavic 2 had it since 2019 they gave me a new drone for price of repair and the repair was parts cost plus one hour labour. Great customer service received the new drone in a day, they fix second batches also 👍

You know it wouldn’t replace you A7S iii. 😂. I’m sure DJI is bugging out that people are looking to side by side with anything higher than the Sony ZV 1.

You really can’t compare the pocket 3 to your A7S3. It’s totally unfair to the S3. Honestly, if you need a gimbal smooth moving shot at 4k 60 or 120 are you going to mount up and balance your gimbal with the full frame to a total of 5-8 (with a small lens)pounds (3.63 kg)of gear to lift with your arms and back awkwardly, or fire up the pocket 3? Now granted the 120 will shoot in slow motion with no sound as you said, but why else would you be shooting 120 fps?
I think the biggest threat to your A7S3 is that you will be using it less than the Pocket 3 going forward. Just ask my A74 and FX30 and the Zhiyun Weebill 3 with dust on it.
12:59 is just bold to take pocket 3 out in the rain. this thing is too delicate and not water proof
