    IGF-1 is why non vegans retain a youthful appearance and don't look prematurely aged. It has a dark side as well if a diet isn't well balanced with enough plant foods. IGF-1 is basically the active form of growth hormone. Its primarily made in the liver and keeps us looking youthful.

    Thank you Dr.Gundry! I have been watching your podcast for long time, and my whole family benefit from your healthy diet information a lot. I shared my health discoveries with my friends, they bought and read your Plant Paradox, and they are changing their diet. My husband has terrible insulin resistance problems and I also have family gene for high blood sugar after meals. I read your books, Plant Paradox and Diet Revolution. I learned tons of very effective ways to make food choices. My husband is doing very well without taking medicine, and I changed my food list and my eating habits , I feel much healthier now and I am confident that I will continue to improve our life quality with your pleasant and healthy podcasts. 👍Wish you a very happy and prosperous life ahead.🙏Thanks a lot!❤️

    You mentioned slippery elm tea as part of your daily routine.
    Could you tell, or have you already told, us what your everyday regimen is.
    If I remember correctly, you change it up according to the season?
    Should WE also develop a regimen and change it up periodically? If so, what are the advantages to doing so?

      white basmati rice is ok just cook it then cool it then reheat it, white sourdough bread is fine but not to much, Butter is excellent as long as it's org, eggs are good as long as they are org or free-range. chicken is good esp if you marinate it overnight.
      blindly following anything is a bad idea, find what works for you. do your own research.
      avoid cold foods and drinks as the body has to work hard to warm them up to body temp
      eat slowly and chew your food well, really really well and I promise you will see an improvement.

    Thank you dr. Gundry for answering our questions. I've been following the plant paradox since the book came out the tune of about 80 20, skin issues, joint pains, prediabetes are all gone! I have a question about squashes and melons. I had thought that you had termed them as native to the Americas and therefore a no no, but I recently saw that bottle gourd, which should be related to both, was traced back to Africa. Could you look into this? I would love to add in more of the peeled and seeded melons and squashes and gourds:-)

    Dear Dr. Gundry, I am so grateful to you for your discoveries re lectins, as it has restored my ability to walk and use my arms again. Before "The Plant Paradox," it looked like I was destined to a very painfully arthritic future! So I could not be more grateful to or have greater respect for you.
    That said, there is one subject, however, on which your advice seems to conflict with all others, & about which I am totally at a loss as to what to believe, bcz your info is sooo different from that of all the other doctors I also respect and follow on YT.
    That subject is our daily requirement of PROTEIN! And specifically, how much I need to eat and from where to obtain it, since I am currently obese and still attempting to burn off my fat by healing my insulin resistance w a low-carb, moderate fat, "moderate" protein, essentially "keto" diet. I am also 73 yrs young, w already obvious muscle loss, and have heard that muscle loss is actually the greatest health concern for those in my age group and older!
    So altho I know there is considerable conflict between the diet protocols for longevity and those for building muscle, and that emphasizing either means compromising the other, I simply can't figure out which to emphasize at this stagenof my life...or at any stage hereafter, at my age.
    So my questions are these: If I reduce my intake of animal proteins - and protein in general - to the level of daily protein that you say we actually need (around 30 grams?), won't I be compromising my muscle strength to a dangerous extent? I always read that there is a greater need for protein after age 60-65, w recommended numbers of grams well over 100 per day! And so, I am really scared to go very much below that.
    So ... can you PLEASE address the protein needs of seniors such as myself? Thank you so, so much in advance!

  • @martinwilliams3235
    @martinwilliams3235 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi.
    I have been following Claudia Curici"s recipes from creative in my kitchen. I make her lectin every day bread. She uses three different fours in the two hundred and twenty gram bread. The recipe has 150 grams of Cassava flour ,25 grams of almond four and 20 grams of tiger-nut flour as well as 20grams of flaxmeal and psyllium husk.. I wondered why she used three different fours, obviously the simple carbohydrate in only Cassava buy it self would be why too high. Hence the reason only three quarters of the bread is cassava why the other quarter is amount, tiger-nut and flaxseed. Altogether making a substantial 220 grams of heavy lectin free bread. The penny only dropped this morning after listening to the podcast and Steven Grundy commenting on the over use of simple carbohydrates in my case Cassava.I just wanted to share . Martin

    Quest bars were originally my bars when I worked in the sports industry. Long story made short, the contract manufacturer-due to unforeseen and complicated circumstances resulting in the closing of my company-put the original formula into the hands of another company My point as a formulater?
    MY point is that corn fiber is not OK. Even if the corn is claimed to be non-GMO, thus apparently not contaminated with glyphosate, Round-up, or Bayer's "Liberty Link", it actually is contained with, at least, glyphosate because of the herbicide's use as a desiccant and seed growth promoter.
    All commercial and non-GMO wheat, rye, corn, barley, soy, alfalfa, oats, legumes, lentils and other stable crops are sprayed with Round-up to make harvesting easier on machinery and to speed up seed production.
    Only US certified organic foods are relatively safe to eat. Corn fiber production is as pernicious as seed oil production. Edge Bars went downhill so as to improve bottomline margins. They use to be BIG sellers at my gym and market. Now they're not even carried.

    Doctor Gundry, I enjoy lifting weights 5x a week pretty heavy and intense training. I also have been doing keto for over 9 months and I really don’t like how I feel on keto and lifting weights. I enjoy being on keto I have more energy, less brain fog and healthier skin and hair, but my progress in the gym is close to none. Should I increase my protein and do a modified ketogenic diet or will my body eventually adapt to being a bodybuilder on keto and I should stick to the traditional keto diet plan?

      I’m very glad you asked this question. My teenage daughter is doing her best to weightlift and eat healthy-grain free, sugar-free foods, yet her energy level will decrease dramatically and I suggest lots of greens and items such as sweet potatoes, even healthy animal meats, yet she is always so tired and weightlifting is a trendy exercise for teens. I tell her to not worry so much on the weights and to exercise for longevity (protecting her knees, etc) but she insists on weightlifting to achieve the glutes so admired on social media. 🍑

      hey, i was going 6-7 times in the gym for around (1,5-2h (way too much)) and i was trying to implement keto on that. I lost my libido (too much cortisol) i started balding and got some gray hairs. I didnt felt tired at all. After i implement an reasonable amount of carbs back in it all stopped. I realy like the approach of SiimLand (youtube) he is mainly keto but on workout days he eats around 150-200g carbs for optimal recovery (from potatos) but hes extreme insulin sensitive and he takes some berberine and chromium with it (whouldnt recommend chromium because its cancerogenic) after writing this i noticed thats not realy helpfull at all :D in my opinion you should max out gym results because there many studies that linked less muscles to all caused mortalitys and if youre insulin sensitive there isnt really a big need for keto in my opinion. And to keep the more energy less brain fog effects you could do it like andrew huberman and only eat some carbs in the evening (will also improve sleep quality)

    • @higherresolution4490
      @higherresolution4490 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One of the best sources is Dr. Gundry's books and one of his podcasts. Go to his TH-cam channel and do a search. I think this subject is pretty recent. Also, go to Dr. William Davis, MD,'s TH-cam channel and do the same thing. He's also a cardiologist and super smart.
      He's the author of "Wheat Belly". Can't for wrong with either one. Davis is excellent. Gundry says that Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease caused by lectins. He'd put you on a lectin free diet like he has many of this patients suffering from the same thing.
      Don't worry. Hashimoto's is definitely reversable as are most all, if not all autoimmune "diseases" ... which are really symptoms to something in your diet that shouldn't be there.

    Dr Gundry, I keep having reactive hypoglycaemia (few hours after meal) if I fast till midday and then have a high carb meal even sweet potato. What’s wrong with me?? I’m 30 years old male and thin. Blood sugars are otherwise normal. P.s I’m loving the new book energy paradox 👌🏼

    • @cherylh4688
      @cherylh4688 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Blood sugars don't really reflect insulin levels or insulin resistance until IR is long-standing and much damage already done. So it seems likely your body is over-producing insulin when you break your fast with carbs (or probably anytime you eat them).
      So you might want to get tested for insulin, OR just assume you have IR & modify your diet accordingly. And to do that, I would start w reducing your carbs & watching videos by Dr. Jason Fung.
      As to how to break your fast, however, there are some good videos on the best way to "break fast," but most times I hear the same recommendation: to break w a lean protein. And even Dr. Gundry recommends breaking on only one macro, preferably protein unless you are fat adapted, in which case you could break on a fat, like avocado.
      But for most of us, carbs are not the best way to start our eating schedule each day, bcz it not only raises insulin rapidly but also creates a situation where we are then triggered to overproduce each time we eat for the rest of the day!
      Protein, however, which also raises insulin, also raises something that offsets it (I forget what it's called), which protects us from the unwanted insulin effects. So I would definitely try breaking your fast w lean protein and see how you do w that.
      I'm not a health expert, however; just know this was a question of mine, too, and this is what I read. And it's been working well for me. (I actually break w homemade bone broth, into which I add garlic, ginger, leeks, mushrooms, fresh greens like parsley, & sometimes an egg, then add ACV & EVOO. And I always feel great after this! I then follow it shortly after w my main meal of the day, with my digestive juices already primed by the ACV in the broth. )
      Good luck!

      Gundry's two books, "The Longevity Paradox" [especially that one] and "The Energy Paradox", and to a bit lesser extent, his 1st book, "The Plant Paradox" lay out the rational for this dietary suggestion. Read his books and you'll feel A LOT better-not lost at all.
      It's red meat that is problematic with most people in terms of [at least, eventually] creating systemic inflammation. I learned a lot from the chapter that covers this subject, including the concept of molecular mimicry.

      Great question with a answer that might appeal to you. I'm in the same postion and am a nutritionist (MS) who has experimented with every seemingly good and absolutely stupid diet there is.
      Gundry is rightly concerned with red meat [as he keenly explains in, I think, "The Longevity Paradox", and maybe a bit overconcerned with fish IF you're talking about athletes and bodybuilders.
      ONE: Fish. Look how strong Pacific Islanders are! If necessary due to kitchen and/or time restraints, buy yellowfin tuna, line-caught albacore, sardines, canned salmon [Trader Joe's] and any shellfish that you enjoy. Canned is OK. Fresh is always better.
      TWO: Eggs. Just don't cook them on high heat. Keep the heat low to moderate so as to not glycate the protein [crispy albumin] and not destroy the fat soluble vitamins + delicate phospholipids contained in the yoke.
      Famous trainer in Glendale, CA, Vince Garanda, [look him up] put competitors like Larry Scott and Frank Zane on 36 raw eggs a day in heavy whipping cream + unlimited vegetable for the 3 months before competitions. It works like taking low-dose dianabol.
      THREE: Buffalo mozarella [Italian style]. Goat's cheese. Cheese and other dairy made with Casein A2 milk [approved by Gundry]. High quality whey protein powder like "Precision Iso", in which the whey isn't denatured and stevia is used, NOT sucralose.
      FOUR: The only bar I've found-there are probably a dozen more-that is reasonably good is from the company "NuGo". It's called "Stronger Whey Protein Bar". 23 grams per bar.
