It would be great if you could clarify how much food is 30g of protein. For example how much steak is 30g protein?

When it comes to protein, it's easy to self-assess the degree (or lack thereof) of gluconeogenesis and the concomitant rise in either blood sugar levels and/or fat deposition. Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia are obvious conditions to the experiencer. Fat gain is also obvious.
Bodybuilders gain body-fat in the off-season from carbs, not protein or quality fat. However, if protein meals are too big, insulin goes up (big time) and they get fat; that's definitely true. I saw a case in point just yesterday with an ex-pro bodybuilder who still trains seriously. A huge red meat consumer.

@@behuman374 you definitely want more than 30g of protein per day.. I'd say per meal x5 meals or 1g per lb of bodyweight.

Hi Dr. Gundry-I’m a doctor and blogger with a strong focus on Nutrition and I appreciate the information you are putting out to the public on Utube and in your books. I recently listened to Max Lugavere’s podcast, The Genius Life, and compared his guest Gabrielle Lyon - an expert on protein and muscle - with some of the information you discussed in your podcast on protein. There are a few things, such as quantity of daily protein, you differ with and I thought it might be interesting for you to have her on as a guest. It would be a great conversation since most of us would benefit from hearing about the importance of protein and the best sources for omnivores, vegans and vegetarians. Many of us know about osteopenia, the loss of bone, but few of us focus on sarcopenia, the inevitable loss of muscle as we age. Thanks again for the interesting interviews and conversations.

Is the sole purpose and only purpose of protein is to build muscle? Of course not! You also use protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein is an important building block of bones, cartilage, skin, and blood, NOT JUST MUSCLES.

Dr. Gundry has mentioned that we need 0.37 grams of protein per kilogram and states that is consistent with Prof. Valter Longo's recommendation. However, Prof. Valter Longo in his book states that it is 0.37 grams of protein per pound which would be double the amount of daily grams of protein

i already tried that amount approximately and my muscles atrophied. i think that is just ok if you don't do resistance training. we need to match the muscle breakdown with the right amount of protein.

Your critics seem to be missing the fact that you put this into practice with your patients and get good results. Studies can be good reference points, and maybe sometimes a guiding light, but it's equally important to listen to what your body is telling you. I believe that results speak for themselves in the long term. I would like to make a request of you- Please do a podcast about dietary nucleotides and their health benefits. Please cover which Plant Paradox foods are highest in nucleotides and please include lots of vegan options. They are the fourth macro, but almost nobody talks about them.

Studies are flawed in so many ways. For every one study there are many saying the opposite. Over a year now Carnivore and off all meds for thyroid autoimmune, no pain pills for fibromyalgia, no pain at all, no more anxiety or hives, no more high blood pressure, no more diabetes. I’m 60 and my husband is healthier then when he was 20 and is also 63. Also kicked diabetes and high blood pressure and no meds after over a year. Best to kick the studies to the curb and listen to your body. It will tell you everything you need to know. I love Dr Gundry but sorry doctors never helped me fix not one single thing. Woohoo loving life healthy again! I also kicked all plants to the moon! DrGundry helped me realize I was reacting to them. Started eliminating them and felt better and better and just kept going. Looked into how healthy Carnivores were getting.. wow life changing if you just stick your toe in and give it a try. Lots of info out there.. do your research

Oh yeah.. my blood work is awesome! A1C is finally normal and that was after only 4 months. Thyroid normal after battling for 40 years with hypothyroidism. There are lots of people who have lived decades and thrives on Carnivore. Studies are paid for by corporations that want a specific result. Best to listen to you and only you. Next year studies will tell you something else. Oh yeah my gut has healed too!!!!!!

Solve the basic problem of the right kind of nutrition your body is crying for and no pills or supplements will be necessary. Protein intake dependant on how much physical exercise your strenously using, I had a job that was lifting heavy weights and a lot of cardio in it at the same time as I was walking with these heavy weights for hours a day 5 sometimes 6 days a week, my food intake from protein was pretty much my body weight 80kg, but I'm sure I was getting over 100g a day in the end I got big muscles but I lost them when I stopped working the job, my protein intake was the same, bottom line is I think it depends on your physical activity which determines how much protein you shoud eat but its such a large topic because you could have fat's and carb's which would be used as fuel before protein so If I wasn't exercising much then yeah 20-30g protein a day might be sufficient to hold onto muscle considering if I'm also eating fats and carbs which the body will use before it attacks the muscle as muscle is eaten last by the body and used for fuel last so muscle breakdown will only occur if I had no fat's or carbs in my body and proteins then muscle breakdown is the final end game.
I personally like to eat at least 50-80g protein per day even when I'm not training. When I do train I eat that 80g protein a day but also add amino supplements while I'm fasting in calorie deficit this will allow me to get the desired body I need.

You dont need carbs at all, but you will eat them anyways with veggies and that's totally fine once they're not over 24 g
20-30 grams of proteins is about all you need (not from red meat and not from GMO-corn fed -- inflammation)
Just dont use vegetables oils factories made, they'll alone fat you up, sorry. Ghee is fine. Use oils like olive oil maybe, double check on it's quality
Sugar & starch, lectins, oxalates and histamine, also casein in milk, avoid these. Also caffeine in coffees and even teas, yes even green tea is wrecking you. One of the effects of green tea is to block the enzyme that breaks down histamine in our bodies (diamine oxidase, or DAO)

I practice Intuitive Eating and recently I asked my clients to make a list of all the foods that make them feel good after eating them and a list of all the foods that make them feel crummy. When I got their lists back most of the foods that were making them feel crummy were on Dr Gundry's "NO" list. From tomatoes to legumes to sugary treats and grains. Once I suggested peeling, seeding, eliminating and using a pressure cooker they felt much better and that is great! However, as an Intuitive Eater I feel diets can be fabulous guidelines, but we still need to (always) listen to our bodies and what it needs and if it needs more protein than 25-30 grams daily, then (I feel) you need to add more. Maybe it will only be 10-20 grams more, but you need to tweak what will be best for you with any diet suggestions. Heck, Max Lugavere says that one of the best brain foods is Grass-Fed Beef. So get off the Lectins, but keep listening to YOU!

Dr. Gundry, we are not suppose to absorb foreign proteins, this is a conditon known as leaky gut, we absorb amino acids. Probably the reason for the limited 30 gram utilization of foreign protein in the study was because there is a limit to the amount of HCl the parietal cells are able to produce hence the limited 30 grams of protein utilization broken down into the absorbable form of amino acids.

Dr Gundry, you mentioned that you give your Kidney Disease patients to limit animal protein and friuts, you didnt mention potassium/calcium/phosphorous, would you limit veggies high in these minerals or do you think that the consumptions doesnt matter as long as you avoid meats? Some have suggested this very idea, that by not eating meat then potassium etc are good for kidney health and healing or at least protective. Which diet is best to halt or even reverse CKD or Kidney disease, many will say any diet that reverses High Blood Pressure and Diabetes, the problem is that once the Kidneys are damaged then eating meat further damages them or at least are much harder on them than lets say plant proteins, what do you guys think? Dearest Dr. Gundry, Please read this comment: The other day when you were speaking of Time Release Vitamin C as a protocol for health as to people's fears of the Corona Virus. I wish to tell you that how Time Release came to our Country and maybe to other Countries was because of my sister's husband's father who discovered this for Vitamin Products well over 35 years ago about. He was a Biochemist and Anton Pescetti was his name. He also pioneered Cold Process and Mineral Chelation. Later his patent was sold to Contact, the medicine for colds Company. However, he still had his vitamins called Nutri Homo, and he also made a vegetarian one Nutri Veg. However, he died many, many year ago. His family had heart problems. He lived to somewhere in his 70's. He was lettered by the Pope in those days. My sister was a Wholistic Health Nutritionist and Nurse who studied in an alternative Cancer Clinic. She used to perform Darkfield Microscopy Pre Clinical Blood Screening. She learned this from Gary Young who was supposedly the one who brought Aromotherpy to the Market Place. I was told over 25 years ago approx. by my sister, who was Vegan, to not eat anything in the Nightshade Family, and to eat no grains, and she really limited fruit, and only could have Lemons in the Master Cleanser she drank daily and I did for a long time with the Elemental Greens, ( a high Chorophyll .) She did however allow her clients 1 corn tortilla a day, one banana, and just vegetables and one type of potato as to red ones. She however, took lots of soy protein powder and though was healthy until she turned 70 when she went through a very hard time and ended up with Alzheimers. She didn't do her Dental work and lost all her teeth ( my dad was a Dentist) He has passed away many years ago and I think my sister had had money problems, I tried to do the diet and however couldn't stay on it and did see Wholistic Doctors who were M.D.s too in those days. What happened is the Livecell blood test horrified me and I thought I was maybe going to go into cancer but she didn't say it that way however alarmed me. I was in my late 40's and I am 65 now, Now then through wrong eating and high stress I ended up with Hoshimoto's Thyroid because I became exceedingly nervous. This was years ago and still have it and am now PreDiabetic and my Primary Care doesn't know the things you know. I cannot afford a Doctor like you and you are in Los Angeles and I am in the Bay Area. Then I have a Vegan boyfriend as I mentioned who rejected your protocol inititally in 2017 because you were eating meat etc. He understands more now but still eats grains and fruit. He doesn't go to Doctors. Then there's Dr. Mcdougall who is opposite of your beliefs and well......it can really confuse the subject. But I am trying to be Lectin Free and need to know for quidance as to the questions below that I ask you.

Also I had read that Wheatgrass restores natural hair color in people with white or grey hair. Please investigate for your audience!

Fructose in fruits is perfectly fine as its binded by fiber and water helps to slow absorption. The study this guy mentions is on high fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners which clearly promotes diabetes and obesity. But whole fruits are very healthy

What about places like Hong Kong and Sardinia where they eat a bunch of meat and they have healthy long lived populations? Are they doing so in spite of much larger average protein consumption? This seems dicey. The world’s oldest person recently credited eating raw eggs and steak, and her genetics for her long life. That feels right. I eat that way. I think we’ll continue to learn that people are different and we’ll thrive differently. What genes would help one group of people eat more meat and thrive better and what genes would help someone weave some kind of optimal diet with special portions of this plant or that? These are nuances that I want to hear more about to continue enjoying your content. Still, glad you’re doing your thing. I avoid lectins because of you. Thanks for your efforts!

How do flax seeds and hemp seeds not have lectins. They are seeds after all. How are various seeds analyzed for lectins? I mean, any given protein could be a lectin type irritant, right? What is the scientific criteria? I thought it was just an empirical observation that certain seeds cause irritation in the mammalian gut for the evolutionary purpose of avoiding being eaten or if eaten, get washed out quickly and intact so they can sprout.

A chunk of raw beef is only 30% protein. The rest is water. So you can increase the portion size of raw meat proportionately. Mind you, there are lots of other things you'll want to eat in a day, so maybe you won't want to splurge it all on one food choice.

He still believes that fructose from fruit is bad, all those studies were made with man-made fructose which is taken out of the fiber and phytonutrient complex with which the body has no idea what that is and therefore detoxes it through the liver

    • @anonmouse956
      @anonmouse956 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

You may be right, I would like to hear more about your ideas. But my understanding is that fructose ends up in the liver because Hummingbirds are the only animals that can burn fructose for energy. So until the liver converts it we can't do anything with it.
