Movie Knuckles is a good redesign, and this is coming from a fan that thinks most of the classic designs didn't need to be changed. His larger chest and taller stature communicate his above average physical strength and older age while not being a drastic departure like Boom. The only problems I have is that his snout should be a tad longer and pointier like in the original art, echidnas have a very pointy snout. And movie Knuckles has softer eyes for some reason, Sonic Team’s Knuckles has eyes with a sharper silhouette.

@@protocetid Eh, personally I think buffing him out, even just to Movie levels, is kind of uncreative. His massive fists convey his strength well enough, and it's cool to have a strong character who isn't all large, like basically every other Power character is in the series. I prefer Knuckles just being slightly taller than Sonic while still overall being slim, like in his Classic and Modern designs.
I like Idris' vibe with knuckles I just think it's a bit too deep for a 16 year old but I'll suspend my disbelief because I did go to school with niggas that sounded like that at 14 me included.
Knuckles has always been my favorite Sonic character, always loved to play as him in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3
fun fact about knuckles being green: i'm pretty sure for multiple years the archie comics just had him as green because of some accident with the master emerald or something

Ever since I played Knuckles' campaign in S3K for the first time he instantly became my favorite character in the Sonic series, even though times have been rough for Knuckles ever since Heroes and 06, we're still getting to see glimpses of the character he once was, from the 2nd Sonic Movie to the upcoming Knuckles short for Sonic Frontiers, hopefully the wonderfully written version of Knuckles from the movie can inspire Sonic Team to make him great again when it comes to the games themselves.

It's about time I finally saw this video. Yeah Knuckles has always been a pretty damn cool character. It's a little annoying how kind of a joke Knuckles has generally been lately, but I mean I guess they tried to make him better in Sonic forces compared to how much of a joke he was before that, but yeah we'll see what happens coming up.

It’s entirely possible to have Knuckles be cool without playing so much into the idea of him being foolish.
It gets boring to see the same old tired jokes and insults being thrown at him; sometimes totally unprovoked.
Knuckles has the same appeal in Sonic that characters like Piccolo and Tenshinhan do in Dragon Ball- incredibly disciplined but socially isolated due to how dedicated and serious they are about their duties, and somewhat envious initially of the more care-free main protagonist.

I am really enjoying your videos! It is very clear you researched and you know your stuff. You present everything so well, and I even get a few chuckles.
He made several mistakes, let's start with proto Knuckles, who is mistakenly called a reptilian. Sonic Retro has diligently investigated the origins of dozens of Sonic titles, here’s what they have about green Knuckles. "Of the designs entered, it was Takashi Yuda's design of a spiny green echidna which proved to be the most popular." Sonic Origins gave us sorely needed concept art for S3&K, it finally pulled back the curtains on the quite mysterious early days of S3&K’s development.
Knuckles started out as a slightly older looking doppelganger of Sonic, ST also tried a black cat and then a mole. Knuckles was a mole for longer than any other form, at this point he was called Stealth, acquired his spiky knuckles and used to carry around shades. Sonic Jam has a random fact about Knuckles not being a fan of sunlight, it must be a remnant of when he was a mole and wore sunglasses during daylight. As you can see no reptiles here, they specifically chose a green echidna. As for the Nike branding, I’ll quote SR again. "Knuckles has a white crest on his chest. This is a remnant of a failed sponsorship deal with a shoe manufacturer (widely expected to be Nike)."

If he got his own top ranking meme, he certainly is the coolest.
Actually, knuckles voice actor changed durring SA1 from the e3 beta to the final game. Though some e3 voice lines still were in the GameCube and Xbox ports of the game for some reason. Including the iconic Oh No line. That line is actually when Knuckles says Oh No in his opening cutscene in the e3 beta. The actor even voiced most of knuckles cutscene lines in the e3 version too so the actor change must’ve been late in development. There are even videos compiling the e3 voices in one video. Then again, I might be wrong.
That was the same voice actor. He just ended up redoing all the lines with different direction at some point before release. And yes, some lines like "oh no" were taken from his earlier recordings.
3:41 I have a theory that knuckles may be Amy’s brother and a half hedgehog. I have a lore about this so listen out:
Knuckles’father was maybe the last member and he married a hedgehog. Then Knuckles came to life and someone should protect the emerald. And so Knuckles‘father let him in angel island and Knuckles survived. Then Amy was born but Knuckles didn’t know about his family or his sister.
This is actually kinda like a headcannon but I call it a theory anyway.

This video made me realize how much less iconic kuckles voice is compared to eggman and sonic. With so many iterations of sonic and eggman/robotnik having stellar voice work, when thinking of knuckles it's almost hard to really pin a voice down as "his'

Knuckles is really cool I think the downfalls character began in Sonic Adventure 2 when Heroes when he was forced to be on team Sonic and forced into the plot because he's sonics friends. Personally think he should have got his own team in Heroes.
I thought Adventure 2 was actually the peak of his character. Rouge pushed him way outside his comfort zone but he still managed to both get the Master Emerald back and help Sonic out a lot during the high stakes finale.
I can see that. Heroes was definitely when he fully became apart of the Sonic crew.
@@SuperZombieBros his character in SA2 is great it's his plot relevance that is the problem. Like every hero and villain is on Prison Island except knuckles.
@ Sonic. mid That’s true, he mostly does his own thing up until Team Sonic’s desert crusade. However, he’s still a lone warrior at heart so I think having him focus on his own quest is respectable to his character. Would’ve been nice to have Knuckles on Prison Island but he was more focused on one-upping Rouge on Emerald Shards.

Knuckles had so much wasted potential. His introduction was great but his battle with Sonic was a letdown.

imo Tikal is the coolest Sonic character because she's named after a Method Man album.
actually she's named after the ruins of an ancient mayan city found in a rainforest in Guatemala. Tikal was the capital of a conquest state that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient Maya. Though monumental architecture at the site dates back as far as the 4th century BC, Tikal reached its apogee during the Classic Period, c. 200 to 900. During this time, the city dominated much of the Maya region politically, economically, and militarily, while interacting with areas throughout Mesoamerica such as the great metropolis of Teotihuacan in the distant Valley of Mexico. There is evidence that Tikal was conquered by Teotihuacan in the 4th century AD. Following the end of the Late Classic Period, no new major monuments were built at Tikal and there is evidence that elite palaces were burned. These events were coupled with a gradual population decline, culminating with the site's abandonment by the end of the 10th century.
