Too bad Amy was just jealous of his courage, variance and greatness at the very end of this game, but Sonic wasn’t lying to her. He even went through the trouble of remembering her date (and it shows in the beginning cutscene), but it’s just too bad Amy Rose was just being everything you would hate in a teenage woman by chasing him down with her Piko-Piko Hammer. And the only thing worse is that their friends (mainly Tails) in the Meta Era think he was so two-faced, misogynistic and horrible in other ways that he deserved it!

Exactly!! Sonic is, to me at least, such a fun-loving, positive guy! To me, he is like that best friend who'll take you on an adventure and lift your spirits when you're sad. He was more human of a character than a hedgehog. Even the Sonic movie mentions it during the finale. Tom: "That little alien... knew more about being human.. than you ever will. His name is Sonic. This was his home... And he was my friend."
Especially considering the negative reputation the character got like “Here’s why Amy Rose deserved to hit Sonic with her Piko-Piko Hammer more than everyone else, especially Fiona Fox! He’s the only one in the franchise that is so bad that he would even kill everyone in favour of himself!”.
Honestly this video explains why I love Sonics character in perfect detail, while he may not be my favourite Sonic character (my user image should say who is) I still love him and his games.
He doesn't need to discover the right attitude, because he has the gift of being able to see a place for that attitude in situations where others don't.
@@ItsNickForShort Haters of Sonic can go suck a choad because it’s hypocritical how people hate Sonic for going by his own rules including skipping young women’s dates (Amy Rose ain’t the only one) as if it makes him care a lot more about himself than his own friends (am I the only one who thinks Amy Rose took things too poorly in post-2002 iterations by acting like Sonic raped her in Sonic Riders during the scene where she undeservedly tried to hit him with her hammer as if he were the worst person she ever had even when compared to her female rivals like Fiona Fox in Archie Comics #172?) yet giving the flanderization of his friends (and himself to a slightly lesser extent which really says a lot about how bad they all are in recent main games) like Tails a pass when he pretended to be less braver than he could actually be in Sonic Lost World and Forces with his whiny temper.
Oh my god thank you. This is literally how I've felt about this near enough for a decade or so. The fact that Sonic's writing quality control has been abandoned so much in favour of just supposedly not mattering drives me crazy. Sonic's writing helps to make these games, it makes them compelling, it makes them satisfying. Sonic at its core is a shounen game with a shounen protagonist. The people who have said Sonic is just a jerk with a lot of confidence or that it's a game about a goofy blue talking hedgehog and therefore the character doesn't matter undermines the whole point of the characters grandeur. Sonic is one to build and inspire confidence even at the worst of times though actions and positivity, a little banter helps encourage and push others to do the same. He'll never tell Eggman that he shouldn't even try, rather Sonic will encourage him to give it his best shot and then do it all again and then some.
2000s Sonic: *forgets young women’s dates* Haters: THE END OF THE WORLD IS *NOT* AS BAD AS SONIC DITCHING HIS OWN FRIENDS FOR EVERY LAME EXCUSE!!!!!!!! 2010s Sonic: *forces people to lighten things up with Nickelodeon-style humour during dark moments* Haters: Anyone who hates Modern Sonic is clearly a nostalgiatard.
My personal favourite interpretation of Sonic was in Sonic And The Black Knight, also because that was actually one of my first Sonic games and personally one of my favourites. I don’t mind Sonic being a little cocky and joking around, but I like how when it’s time to get serious and mature, he is. Like how he stopped to ask a lost little girl if she is alright, or how he stopped Gawain from suicide or of course, how he teaches Merlina the meaning of life. I also feel like Sonic has some of the best quotes in that game, such as: “Every world has its end. I know that’s kinda sad but...that’s why we gotta live life to the fullest in the time we have” I absolutely love that quote! It’s my favourite quote any fictional character has ever said.
I have heard many of these videos many times, but very rare have I heard someone describe Sonic in this way and I say big respects to you, you describe the Blue Blur perfectly and I am so glad to have heard and watched this, your passion truly shows, I am betting other Sonic Fans agree to what your said too, I know I do and I was nodding all the way :).
My opinion, sonic was also one of my childhood favorites, he’s cool, has good games, he’s fast. But I’d say he’s kinda far from perfect. Sure he’s a good example of a flat character, but his flaws is what makes him kinda great. He can be quite too annoying at times and just like the relationship between goku and vegeta (ironic). He was one of my favorites but nowadays, he’s from 2nd favorite video game character to 5th, only to be beaten by king dedede and mega man. But sure, he is sometimes a good character, which inspired a idea of mine, mixed with sans, spider man, etc
My favourite Sonic is from Sonic And The Black Knight, that game is very underated and I just loved it! He knows when to be funny and when to be serious
As a writer and Sonic fan this video inspired and showed the power of flat characters. As I am about to write my own series, I will keep this in mind for the future! Killed it dude you just earned a sub
Sega had a golden goose in Sonic for years and the ways they have squarnded that is simply mind blowing. Luckily Pontac and Graff are finally gone and I hope the new writers can tap into Sonic recent surge in popularity and it provides alot of people that people still do care about this great character! UPDATE: I actually made this before Pontac confirmed it himself in that interview so I was right and that's good.

I think Sonic's behaviour since Colors makes sense. Sonic seemed depressed since Shadow the Hedgehog. It was probably first such violent war for him. He got fine with killing, as evidenced in Black Knight, when he refused to kill or even imprison Chaos before. In 06 he was all show of feeling fine but got better thanks to power of love (which got undone), in Unleashed he had to regain inner joy during his world tour. And that joy is present in Colors.
Sonic the Hedgehog is the world's fastest supersonic hedgehog and the strongest Freedom Fighter in the multiverse who fights for peace, freedom and justice
Sonic is the only thing keeping a smile on my face everyday, if the franchise ever goes under and we had no more Sonic content I would be so deeply depressed. I probably wouldn't be happy for the rest of my life
I'm curious if you have ever played Sonic Battle or Sonic Chronicles. I believe the whole cast including Sonic is characterized quite well in those games.

I absolutely love Sonic's character. I really hope they nail his personality on the latest game. Colors and Forces were kinda boring. I want to see the 2000-2008's sonic again!
Sonic isn't just a perfect character. He's the BEST fictional character and video game character of all time with the best video games, comics, and shows
Black Knight to me was peak Sonic (in terms of writing). I feel as if every single aspect of Sonic were portrayed at its best. His attitude; compassion, bravery, care-free nature, they were all so well displayed. Sonic in that game legitimately taught me to enjoy my life for as long as it lasts and that last cutscene will always stick with me.
Reads title: I know Sonic is a pretty interesting character, only seeing his design is enough for understanding him, a positive, fast paced person with a golden heart, that doesn't care about the past always he can keep moving forward Sonic isn't the character that you see getting sad or angry, he usually will smile... But the Forces Sonic... I feel him a little bit empty, he has nothing but a happy feeling even being though he was "tortured" making him presence how everything he loved dissapeared, if he keeped a smile but looked a little bit hurted by that ill feel something pretty distint Ive always had the headcanon that not everything the games told us the exact events, in his world Sonic is a recognized hero, SEGA asks the Hedgehog and his friends about the stories they live, and after that, SEGA and the Sonic team adapt it to make the stories videogames, that'll explain the references to games inside the same franchise Is my reason to move on actually... A character like this... So alive you can basically fuse with him some times when playing, reading or watching him... Getting in a new world where you just... *Gotta go fast*
The Blue Blur himself. I agree with Sonic being the perfect character. I always loved the cocky, smug attitude he had, because it shows just how cool he really is. In contrast to Mario, that's what makes Sonic stand out from the typical "goody-two shoes" protagonist. Sonic is the prime definition of an alpha male chad. He's even got the charm and swagger to prove it. Just like Shadow, I have some questions for you regarding Sonic... 1. Between Amy and Sally, who's the better romance partner for Sonic? I've grown pretty fond of Sonamy in the IDW comics since Amy becomes more mature, but my stance on Sonally is a bit shaky (mostly because it felt like a furry soap opera in the Archie comics). Although, it makes more sense than Sally and Nicole dating. 2. If Sonic ended up not dating either of the girls I mentioned previously, could you see him in a relationship with Mighty? He's the only male character that I believe could work well with Sonic. During the Post-Reboot era of the Archie comics, it felt like there was a subtle hint of flirting/teasing between them. [keep in mind that this question is purely hypothetical] 3. How do you feel about Sonic being a "fanservice" character? SEGA/Sonic Team did something like that when Rouge made her debut. Sonic himself can attract fans of both genders based on his good looks and heroism. Those same type of fans classify him as the ideal male model. It doesn't help that he barely wears any clothes.
1. Sonally was great to me in Archie when handled by good writers but I’m always gonna love SonAmy the most cause of X. It showed Sonic’s hyper never sit still attitude and quickness to temper but whenever Amy got involved and she meant it she was the only one who hed listen to. Granted it was cause Amy has always been super quick to cut through Sonic’s nonsense and I find it cute how SHES the only one who can grab hold of him and keep him in one place I think it naturally leads to flirting and romance. I’d age her up but since no one acts their age in sonic except for the super young characters, but I definitely think those 2 work best. 2. Mighty I’ve only read very little of in Archie but I don’t see them in a relationship it’s probably up to interpretation but I’ve never seen Sonic as gay cause he does tease his male friends but him with Amy or Blaze just makes more sense to me cause I think there’s a real spot for romance there based on previous media. 3. Honestly I think the only fan service character is Rouge cause she’s the only character with real human “attributes” but beyond that Sonic isn’t a fan service character he just has a great design and personality so maybe people find him appealing in that way that I’ve never seen I wouldn’t doubt it at all. But most franchises have the token “hot girl” and “hot boy” who ig would be Sonic or Shadow for the male equivalent. So Yee that’s my take on it.
@@ItsNickForShort 1. Sonic and Amy do have a great dynamic. Sonic is like the "cool dad" type, while Amy is the "serious mom" type. I'm glad Amy is no longer an obsessive fangirl. 2. I headcanon Sonic as bisexual (Mighty as Sonic's first love before moving on to Amy). Sonighty is my OTP and it still holds a special place in my heart. I'm surprised that you mentioned Blaze, though. 3. If the fans saw Sonic wearing a speedo, they would go nuts over that. Of course, that's only if the Sonic series became an 18+ franchise. The chances of that happening is nonexistent.
You're right, man. Well said. Sonic definitely is a flat arc character, but it works so well for him and for what he stands for. It's almost like his perspective on everything just immediately motivates us to be better in our own lives however we can. I wish more of the Sonic community exemplified what you've stated here in this video. He's truly the greatest video game character of all time.
I love Sonic the Hedgehog so much. He is my favorite character of all time. He has affected my life in so many ways, and I can't thank him enough. I think he is a very sadly underrated character. This video was so great to find. It explains everything I love about Sonic. I love Movie Sonic just a *tad* more because he is the inspiring character he is in the games, but I personally relate to him and the arc he goes through in the movies. But I only prefer that version by a little bit, because Game Sonic, when written correctly, is such a perfect character.
Sonic is mainly underrrated because people love to justify his friends’ rage towards him whether it be Tails for not being protected by him or Amy Rose (and Zeena, an enemy in Sonic Lost World) for only seeing these teenage women as friends, etc.
@@kieranstark7213 I understood the first half, but after the parenthesis I understood nothing. I don't understand why Zeena was brought up, and I don't understand the "drei g these teenage women as a friend, etc" thing
Because they were wrong about how bad Sonic was in these early 2010s Sonic games (the end of Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Free Riders and Sonic Lost World)
You're very true on that. Which it's why when he used negative forms like Dark Sonic or Dark spine form, it's terrifying as he's not the Sonic we know but an embodiment of savage warrior who only wants to brutally hurt the evildoers as bloody and satisfying as he wishes. And he's ashamed of his vile action when Eggman scold Dark Sonic.
I think you should be one of the writers for the next sonic game because you seem like a guy who knows how to write sonic and the other characters pretty well
The cutscene before the final boss of Black Knight is why I love Sonic’s character.
He never give up no matter what
I love those cutscenes too

Binging your channel was a great decision, keep it up!
It’s fucking time a video like this got released.
He’s so great that I can’t even draw his head straight
I can never get his hands right
He doesn't need to discover the right attitude, because he has the gift of being able to see a place for that attitude in situations where others don't.
Dude this is nice wtf ppl need to see this
Thank you so much! That means a lot! I’ve got a new video coming in the next in the next week or so that’s gonna be even bigger and hopefully better!
@@ItsNickForShort Haters of Sonic can go suck a choad because it’s hypocritical how people hate Sonic for going by his own rules including skipping young women’s dates (Amy Rose ain’t the only one) as if it makes him care a lot more about himself than his own friends (am I the only one who thinks Amy Rose took things too poorly in post-2002 iterations by acting like Sonic raped her in Sonic Riders during the scene where she undeservedly tried to hit him with her hammer as if he were the worst person she ever had even when compared to her female rivals like Fiona Fox in Archie Comics #172?) yet giving the flanderization of his friends (and himself to a slightly lesser extent which really says a lot about how bad they all are in recent main games) like Tails a pass when he pretended to be less braver than he could actually be in Sonic Lost World and Forces with his whiny temper.
im also a fan of "friendly sonic" as my first sonic game was colors.
2000s Sonic: *forgets young women’s dates*
Haters: THE END OF THE WORLD IS *NOT* AS BAD AS SONIC DITCHING HIS OWN FRIENDS FOR EVERY LAME EXCUSE!!!!!!!!
2010s Sonic: *forces people to lighten things up with Nickelodeon-style humour during dark moments*
Haters: Anyone who hates Modern Sonic is clearly a nostalgiatard.
no he would tell eggman that he shouldnt try
he roasts eggman every single chance he gets

Favorite video game characters are sonic and dedede and megaman.
Absolute man of culture.
My favourite Sonic is from Sonic And The Black Knight, that game is very underated and I just loved it! He knows when to be funny and when to be serious
See Roger read the comic:
If only he had better stories to to voice sonic in 🥲

I remember telling my piano teacher about Sonic, but she didn’t recognize the name. But when I showed her a picture, she immediately recognized him.
UPDATE: I actually made this before Pontac confirmed it himself in that interview so I was right and that's good.

hey ive seen you somewhere
I think Sonic's behaviour since Colors makes sense. Sonic seemed depressed since Shadow the Hedgehog. It was probably first such violent war for him. He got fine with killing, as evidenced in Black Knight, when he refused to kill or even imprison Chaos before. In 06 he was all show of feeling fine but got better thanks to power of love (which got undone), in Unleashed he had to regain inner joy during his world tour. And that joy is present in Colors.
Sonic is my favorite character of all time. It's great to know you're just as passionate about Sonic as a character as I am
You are very underrated this is a great video it deserves way more views and likes

Sonic is the only thing keeping a smile on my face everyday, if the franchise ever goes under and we had no more Sonic content I would be so deeply depressed. I probably wouldn't be happy for the rest of my life
Sonic having bad writing traits is still good, and I don't know why.
He just breaks the logic.

Sonic is a thrill seeker with attitude and a heart of gold
Sonic isn't just a perfect character. He's the BEST fictional character and video game character of all time with the best video games, comics, and shows
Black Knight to me was peak Sonic (in terms of writing). I feel as if every single aspect of Sonic were portrayed at its best. His attitude; compassion, bravery, care-free nature, they were all so well displayed. Sonic in that game legitimately taught me to enjoy my life for as long as it lasts and that last cutscene will always stick with me.
Reads title: I know
Sonic is a pretty interesting character, only seeing his design is enough for understanding him, a positive, fast paced person with a golden heart, that doesn't care about the past always he can keep moving forward
Sonic isn't the character that you see getting sad or angry, he usually will smile... But the Forces Sonic... I feel him a little bit empty, he has nothing but a happy feeling even being though he was "tortured" making him presence how everything he loved dissapeared, if he keeped a smile but looked a little bit hurted by that ill feel something pretty distint
Ive always had the headcanon that not everything the games told us the exact events, in his world Sonic is a recognized hero, SEGA asks the Hedgehog and his friends about the stories they live, and after that, SEGA and the Sonic team adapt it to make the stories videogames, that'll explain the references to games inside the same franchise
Is my reason to move on actually...
A character like this... So alive you can basically fuse with him some times when playing, reading or watching him... Getting in a new world where you just...
*Gotta go fast*
Looking back, I think Sonic is a flat character so he can help develop other characters like Tails, Knuckles and Shadow.
Fanboying aside, this is one of the best sonic videos i have ever seen
3:24
Black Knight is screaming that you forgot him.
Probably because he forgot Amy’s date so he should be raged at by his own friends (just kidding)
Any character who manages to get into smash is DEFINITELY the perfect character
[keep in mind that this question is purely hypothetical]
"Perfect character"
I totally agree

Thanks for the video! You're right too. Just be the character dosen't change that much dosen't make said character awful. (Expect colors)
This video essay is perfect for writing what my AU for sonic is.
Sonic is perfect! He's a great character!😆
