The only Ghibli movie that has different vibes. It feels really connected with real life's problem, daily life struggles. A common phenomenon in our world. But if we look at it differently, you'll realize that everyone has its own problem, its own solution, its own story, and you'll find the beauty of life within it.
My gf and I just finished Only Yesterday and I said we have to watch Whisper of the Heart next. Definitely check out Only Yesterday, it's my favourite Ghibli film and one of 11 films I've rated 5 stars of the 4250 I've seen (I like movies 😅). Other grounded Ghibli films are Ocean Waves and Grave of the Fireflies (which is in my top 5 Ghibli films). From Up on Poppy Hill is solid too, though it didn't get much love (people probably wanted something more fantastical). The Wind Rises is pretty grounded too but maybe more grand somehow.

Me too, that movie and especially this song brings memory to my beautiful childhood. It brings memories to the family, to the home - to the feeling of joy and safety... - many people which i love are on the other side (RIP) and old beautiful days are gone forever ... For many people this movie bring happy and positive atmosphere - for me its sadness. But it's a beautiful movie which i love.

A beautiful film that washes over me like a childhood memory. The words of this song are strongly nostalgic. They evoke a special time and place of home and a simpler time. And the traveler is returning home, following a well worn road. But then she realizes that she can't go back, that she and the world have moved on. Her journey is forward, and that brief special time in the past is not reachable. The person she was has been transformed. I suppose we all feel like that from time to time, looking for that road that will take us home and then realizing it can never be. There's a sweet sadness to it.
