Whisper of the Heart was Kondō's only film as director before his death in 1998. Studio Ghibli had hoped that Kondō would become the successor to Miyazaki and Takahata.[2]
It was the only theatrical Ghibli film not directed by Miyazaki or Isao Takahata for seven years until The Cat Returns was released in 2002, which focused on a minor character of the film, Baron.

this movie feels like a childhood memory
It is
True, makes me think that life was soo much better
It is for a lot of us worldwide
Same!!!❤❤
This film felt like a warm hug i’ve always longed for. Not only my favorite Ghibli but also one of my favorite films of all time
The only Ghibli movie that has different vibes. It feels really connected with real life's problem, daily life struggles. A common phenomenon in our world. But if we look at it differently, you'll realize that everyone has its own problem, its own solution, its own story, and you'll find the beauty of life within it.
There a actually quite a few of Studio Ghibli movies that are like this
@@MayorofPainsvilleDAN names??
Look up Only Yesterday
My gf and I just finished Only Yesterday and I said we have to watch Whisper of the Heart next.
Definitely check out Only Yesterday, it's my favourite Ghibli film and one of 11 films I've rated 5 stars of the 4250 I've seen (I like movies 😅).
Other grounded Ghibli films are Ocean Waves and Grave of the Fireflies (which is in my top 5 Ghibli films). From Up on Poppy Hill is solid too, though it didn't get much love (people probably wanted something more fantastical). The Wind Rises is pretty grounded too but maybe more grand somehow.
Wise words
This was such a beautiful version of the song. The Manga and Animated film are just delightful.
There's a manga?!
@@maisarashafiq9322I’m confused about that part of the comment too!

@@maisarashafiq9322yup
I watched two episodes and there are some differences like instead of the fat cat there are two black cats and there is another male character

First time I saw this movie, I cried TWICE hearing this song. In the middle when they’re playing the song together, and at the credits. Fantastic movie
Me too, that movie and especially this song brings memory to my beautiful childhood. It brings memories to the family, to the home - to the feeling of joy and safety... - many people which i love are on the other side (RIP) and old beautiful days are gone forever ... For many people this movie bring happy and positive atmosphere - for me its sadness. But it's a beautiful movie which i love.
"Home" has many words in many languages but we all understand and feel each other's love for wherever "home" is.
I'll say it twice
What a movie!!!

Every time when I hear this japanese version I get goosebumps and sometimes even shed tears. Because that movie and especially this song brings memory to my beautiful childhood. It brings memories to the family, to the home - to the feeling of joy and safety... - many people which i love are on the other side (RIP) and old beautiful days are gone forever ... For many people this movie brings happy and positive atmosphere - for me its sadness. But still it's a beautiful movie which i love.
I wonder what John Denver thought about this song if ever he listened to this.
He would just say wow, better than mine
he was dead
@@BIacklcehe died in 1997, so he would still be alive around the movie was released
Thank you for this NOSTALGIA 🌌😭❤
one of my favorite studio ghibli works
I just watched it today and I was smiling all the time ☺❤
I influenced my niece and nephew to watch all Studio Ghibli movies because they're really great to watch
I'm doing this to my little brother's. I didn't watch them as a kid but now as a teenager and fell in love. I thought if I couldn't have a childhood with these movies let at least my brother's have :)
So beautiful, definitely an underrated Ghibli movie imo

A beautiful film that washes over me like a childhood memory. The words of this song are strongly nostalgic. They evoke a special time and place of home and a simpler time. And the traveler is returning home, following a well worn road. But then she realizes that she can't go back, that she and the world have moved on. Her journey is forward, and that brief special time in the past is not reachable. The person she was has been transformed.
I suppose we all feel like that from time to time, looking for that road that will take us home and then realizing it can never be. There's a sweet sadness to it.
As a West “By God” Virginian, this cover does so much justice to the OG song :3 ♥️
As a fellow West Virginian I agree!
Another Ghibli Masterpiece! Shockingly having less misses than Pixar! Although I love both studios, probably the top 2 animation studios (when it comes to movies)
Same. I wasn't into Pixar as I was Ghibli, but then I found out that one of many people to work with Pixar was KAREN PRELL. As in, *RED FRAGGLE.*
Jamming out to this with my daughter about 20 miles from Harper's Ferry West Va. :).
The first 32 seconds that play when Seiji confesses to Shizuku is pure magic.
thank you for posting this masterpiece TT
i swear ghibli movie and their songs are so comforting
I really enjoy these songs, and now I can understand their meaning too!
If you could add “The Girl in Byakkoya” from the “Paprika” soundtrack, that would be amazing :-)

Yoshifumi Kondo san will always be remembered 😢if he was still with us we would’ve had a hope for Studio Ghibli. Sad there is no one who is capable of creating something this anymore and Miyazakis last film the Boy and the heron is the last true original Ghibli movie we might ever get.
This is so Heart Warming
