Most precious thing about this wonderful group is the way they all smile at each other with genuine love and joy and pride about each other. Smiles like these are powerful.....
I've said this before, but watch these folks perform very carefully. This is how it's done. No amplifiers, no dancers, no fancy stage effects, no auto-tune. Just a lot of talent and hard work doing something they clearly love. You can tell they're having fun too. And whoever does their arrangements - great job!!

Being a West Virginian, we tend to be very protective of people singing a song that means so much to our beautiful state that we are so proud of. But after hearing The Petersen’s singing of the song it did what John Denver’s singing does every time and that’s bring a tear to my eye. Thank you for performing such a very special performance of our beloved song.

This version of this song changed my life. Cleaned me up. Got me sober. Helped me love my family the way they deserve. Thank you petersens from a fellow Missourian
The lead singer's voice is angelic. I grew up listening to John Denver, Jim Croce, Neil Diamond with my family. What a fantastic version of this classic. Bless you all.
Saw John Denver do this live in Perth Australia in 1975. Never forgotten! Played the old cassette tape till it broke or tangled. Your rendition is wonderful, thank you for sharing!
I'm from where John Denver's grandma lived & took care of her till her passing. I knew his family & met him. He & the family would love how you did this song. Thank You!!

With "live" you cannot fake. This is like a perfect studio take! Sure makes the audio guys job a joy when working with great talent.
This is perhaps one of the better maybe THE BEST cover of Country Roads I have had the pleasure of hearing. The key change near the end was a magical touch.
I like how Matt leads in with the guitar and you hear Julianne with her mandolin add a few notes of accent going up the scale twice, then back down before Katie starts singing: th-cam.com/video/qap9Qm-Q894/w-d-xo.html
This is my favorite song of John Denver, an ardent fan of his since the '70s. I can honestly say your version utterly and completely does him justice. Absolutely beautiful, especially that solo girl, but really all singers. The synergy is superb. Cheers and keep up the quality.
Awesome version, John Denver would be proud of this. My mother was an alcoholic in the late 70's,and when she was on a bender, she would play this until she passed out. She passed away in 1984. I hated the song for 30 years, but in the past 10 years have grown to embrace the words, and enjoy the songs message as a 60 year old.
I'm a "big, tough truck driver", and your music moves me to tears. John Denver did his job, but you do it better. I can't say enough about how your music moves me. Keep on keepin' on. Please. I love it
Perhaps the best of all John Denver's songs! Love this cover. The use of fiddle, banjo, guitar, cello...etc. adds a special "country" feel to this song. Take me back to those country roads!
As an older gent still existing in an ever changing world, it's refreshing to see a mainly younger generation group that can interpret a song written well before they were born, re-arrange it in a bluegrass style, but perhaps even adding more feeling and emotion than the original. The harmony and feel, different than the original, but still the same. I feel sure that John would be smiling! You are a shining light so needed in our times. Thank you!
Bill Danoff and (then-)wife Taffy Nivert ("aka, Fat City"), who wrote this song, are both still alive, I believe. They'll probably smile at this performance, too, if they find it. Fred
I am moved to tears. The strings and harmony and angelic vocals are absolutely amazing! And the smiles while all of you are performing tells the story that you love what you are doing!
My family used to sit around singing and playing. Dad is in the heavenly choir now. Mom played any instrument, but now sits and listens what little she can as she looses her hearing and already lost her sight. Watching this brings back memories, smiles, joy, and tears.
Mine too. I was so young at the time I didn't appreciate not only how good they actually were, but how it brought the whole family together. They are all gone now 😢, but ill have the memories for always.

This was so pleasing to listen to especially during these dark times the country is going through. Classic traditional American family singing such a classic American song. Just beautiful.

What a nice cover ! I am a Japanese but once lived in Virginia as a UVA student. The Blueridge mountains still remain as a good memory of that time, and I love this old heart-warming song !
I'm impressed and pleased at several levels so I don't know where to start. I'm a bit puzzled. I grew up in Hollywood and the music industry in LA. I'm an engineer and a musician, and have some idea of what it takes to produce a recording of this quality. Yet, I don't see all that stuff here in the video. And, it's obviously not a lip-sync. Yet, it sounds amazing -- stunningly good -- jaw dropping. All the instruments are present. The vocals are perfect. The performance is flawless and the engineering perfect. These days, I'm retired and living in West Virginia. Imagine that. And, I've been a fan of this song since the 1970s. So, just wow! This performance is superb. Until now, the best performance of this song I'd ever heard was when John Denver did this as a duet with Mama Cass Elliot, who is the ultimate expert at harmonizing with another singer. Now, there are two performances that are in first place. You guys are amazing. There's so much garbage being sold as "music" these days, you give me hope and make me very happy. Please continue.
Phillip I agree with you 100 percent. I've worked in television audio up here in Toronto for over 40 years and have worked for all the major US and Canadian networks; thousands of live audio projects and this piece definitely stands out. I'm thinking a very expensive console, perhaps a NEVE with extremely high precision mic preamps, recorded in a professionally treated room by someone with producer type hearing. Member of AES, SMPTE, SBE, ASA. A lot of care and good planning went into this, not to mention the super talent of these young people.
That was a very thoughtful reply and I whole heartedly agree. Even if there was some post production, it doesn’t diminish how good their performance was. . I think the fact they are siblings really helps their voices blend as well.
I travelled from Canada through West Virginia before. Yet even so, I feel like this version of the song makes everyone all over the world feel like going back to West Virginia is going back home. Of like hundreds of covers of this song, I love this one best. Fantastic. Thank you for your talents. ❤ from 🇨🇦

"Driving Down The Road I Get A Feeling That I Should of Been Home Yesterday", If your mother or father are still living, call or go see them today and let them know how much they mean to you, especially in these hard times they need to know and hear that. This is the best cover of a "hit" song that I have ever heard.
With all due respect to Mr. Denver, I believe this is the best rendition of the song I’ve ever heard. It’s beautifully done and really stirs up some emotions. ❤
I was born in a small farming town in western Victoria, Australia but grew up in Sydney. Hearing this song as a teenager in the seventies convinced me of where my heart lay. I escaped from the suburbs at twenty one and have lived around the hills of Southern Highlands ever since with no regrets. Thank you Petersens for your great cover of this classic.
This style of natural singing and clear harmonies are a breath of fresh air. So many girls and women on TH-cam try too hard to sound like Shakira or Britney Spears, with a weird and unnaturally narrow mouth, nasal accent that is so prevalent in pop music today. Thanks for this real music and singing.
I'm from Indonesia and find this jewel accedently while searching for Sheryl Crows old videos, not only Americans can enjoy this, youtube algorithms done it again 👍
Guys, i just mentioned that i’m german, it wasn’t my intention to let you think i’m special/better/wealthier/worse, or whatever, I just said i’m from Germany to say that here are other viewers from all over the world too, that’s all :-)
That would be Julianne Petersen. What you're seeing there is pure joy; her being in the moment, unforced, unpretentious, and unscripted. It's like an award winning photograph. It's a unique and special moment in time.
never knew how knowing another language and listening to a song in that language will make you think of a foreign country as your home, humanity is beautiful....languages really do cross barriers.
We had a local musician play this song at our son's funeral and i love listening to this families performance. It touches my heart each time i hear it.
My Father was raised in West Virginia, in Montgomery. He passed out of this world 13 years ago, July 16th, 2009. He would have loved this beautiful song and your beautiful voices and faces. God bless you all, in Jesus holy name. ~Chaplain Michael Green
As a Brazilian guy , listening to this song, I got emotional, so I can imagine for people who lived and/or is living in West Virginia. . God bless you...
John Denver himself is smiling from above. This is one of the best covers of his hit Country Roads that has ever been done. I actually like the more close it sounded to blue grass style music rather than Denver's pop/country version, although I love that version too. This one is spectacular. These musicians know what they are doing. They remind me of bands of yesteryear when you actually had to have TALENT and singing harmonies like this acoustic version of Country Roads proves this band has talent.
I'm French and therefore far from the mountains of Virginia and my culture has little in common with that of the USA but bluegrass/country music resonates in my heart and soul and always brought tears in my eyes. I guess that's the power of music: it's universal and can bring people together. Thank you so much for this beautiful interpretation. Bless you all.
Oh, what a wonderful performance! Vocals, instruments, and beautiful harmonies! Even the violin comes in at the end, which is awesome! Thank you very much! Tears naturally came out. Thank you everyone for making this masterpiece possible!
Aside from the original hit version by John Denver, with vocal backing by Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert, the Petersens have the BEST cover of this timeless classic that I've ever heard. Katie's lead vocal interpretation is a made-to-order perfect fit! Extremely well done, Petersens!
Well thank you Petersen Family. My mom taught me how sing and play a guitar and it was country/bluegrass that she taught me to sing. She just passed this week at 98 , and I cut my musical teeth on John Denver so your singing made me cry all over again. Thank you and God Bless and hope to see you up in New Hampshire sometime. You couldn't be more welcome.
You fine people to me epitomize what is great about America. You remind me of growing up in Virginia, why I was so proud of that heritage, why I served in the Marine Corps, what I love about this country. God bless you all.
I'm a Chinese, living in China. When I was in the university here, we got a second place for our college match by singing Country Roads with translated Chinese lyric. WORLD PEACE!
Must have listened to this 20 times now. Just love it so much. From the smiles and fun to the beautiful voices, to the wonderful melody and perfect sychronicity and lovely instruments, especially the warm twanging of the banjo. Simply Heaven!!! Big Love from the U.K. ❤❤❤❤❤😊

So true - and that's video "only". Live on stage, the voices are at least 10 x more impressive - it's a wise decision to come to their shows.

I can't lie I cry every time I hear this but I reckon he'd be happy I do. At the same time I reckon he call me a wimp but thats just mates being mates. God bless!
I love the original, but this version has its own beauty.
Listen to this song every day before driving to work in the sawmill.
Greetings from Germany
Hier sind echt viele Deutsche unterwegs
Whenever I have had enough of this world, I watch this family and all is well again. Wish I could see them in person.
"Driving Down The Road I Get A Feeling That I Should of Been Home Yesterday", If your mother or father are still living, call or go see them today and let them know how much they mean to you, especially in these hard times they need to know and hear that. This is the best cover of a "hit" song that I have ever heard.
100% agree with you comment.
Almost made me cry
......l should have been home yesterday...
How I wish I can go home 😢
With all due respect to Mr. Denver, I believe this is the best rendition of the song I’ve ever heard. It’s beautifully done and really stirs up some emotions. ❤
I was born in a small farming town in western Victoria, Australia but grew up in Sydney. Hearing this song as a teenager in the seventies convinced me of where my heart lay. I escaped from the suburbs at twenty one and have lived around the hills of Southern Highlands ever since with no regrets.
Thank you Petersens for your great cover of this classic.
I'm from Nairobi ,have never set my foot out of Kenya ,but I'm now missing west Virginia, beutful people, beutful voices
I guess that 1 thumb down was from someone that accidentally tapped it, or he was deaf.
Sounded great, brightens up my day. Thank you all.
Or had a dyslexic moment.
Hi it’s old Bill from northern Ontario Canada you folks are awesome glad to have the internet so I can find folks like you
This style of natural singing and clear harmonies are a breath of fresh air. So many girls and women on TH-cam try too hard to sound like Shakira or Britney Spears, with a weird and unnaturally narrow mouth, nasal accent that is so prevalent in pop music today. Thanks for this real music and singing.
hello.
I am a Japanese living in Japan.
I was touched by your harmonies.
I love it.
thank you.
America loves Japan ❤

I'm a simple man, I see The Petersens, I press the like. Keep doing these great covers!
Congrats and greetings from Brazil.
It is a pleasure to hear your singing and playing instruments - you do share your smiles and the joy of life!
Hello, I'm Brazilian and I would like to congratulate all of you. all with a lot of talent and wonderful voices. I'm your fan.
As a German, i must say, this group is very talented, their voices, their playing...just perfect calming💓
@Ahmad Najih Ainain i think the most viewers are from the USA
I'm from Indonesia and find this jewel accedently while searching for Sheryl Crows old videos, not only Americans can enjoy this, youtube algorithms done it again 👍
Guys, i just mentioned that i’m german, it wasn’t my intention to let you think i’m special/better/wealthier/worse, or whatever, I just said i’m from Germany to say that here are other viewers from all over the world too, that’s all
:-)
😍
Nice to know that there are people in Germany that also love The Petersens! Thanks for your comment!
The way the girl on the left smiles at 0:17 for no particular reason other than perhaps she’s happy to be singing this song with her family, is gold.
so pure.
That would be Julianne Petersen. What you're seeing there is pure joy; her being in the moment, unforced, unpretentious, and unscripted. It's like an award winning photograph. It's a unique and special moment in time.
@@SanjaySingh-oh7hv Yes, it is very special. You can see the same smile in the older videos when she was a little girl!
That smile is contagious!
They are too cute! Just wanna hug em all. 🤗
never knew how knowing another language and listening to a song in that language will make you think of a foreign country as your home, humanity is beautiful....languages really do cross barriers.
Ladies, that harmony is just breaking my heart, joyous!
As a West Virginia boy, who's heard this song a million times, I just got chills for the first time.
So did I.
Love ❤️ this song 14th jul 2022 I still listen to this song brings back so many memories 💗💗💗💗💗💗👍⭐️
When you get a chance come and visit some time we'd love to have ya. ^_^
I'm from India, would love to visit France and USA.
@@redsabre69 I'd love to! Seeing the Great Smoky moutains and bringing back a nice country harp is on my bucketlist.
Thanks for your kind words ♡♡♡
John Denver is tappin' his foot to this rendition. Well played, Petersens, well played!
Oh man... check this: th-cam.com/video/UwubhhECksM/w-d-xo.html
You gotta see this version th-cam.com/video/FRPeYP6gS-s/w-d-xo.html
This song will never get old, and to hear the Petersens sing it makes it even better.
Sending love to your family 💕
God bless brother
My condolences.
That would be so interesting to hear.
Peace right back at you. Peace like music is contagious.
Great, talented family. Not only that this version of the song is great, even more these girls are sweet.
I was born and raised in West Virginia and still live here. You all did a wonderful job singing and playing this song. Thank you ❤
❤
Must have listened to this 20 times now. Just love it so much. From the smiles and fun to the beautiful voices, to the wonderful melody and perfect sychronicity and lovely instruments, especially the warm twanging of the banjo. Simply Heaven!!! Big Love from the U.K. ❤❤❤❤❤😊
You guys are all this country is all about. You should be proud.
Katie's smile is almost heaven.
Creep
@@Uncle1776Sam you don't get the joke. One of the lines in the song is "almost heaven"
How nice to see clean, young people and listen to their beautiful, normal singing. Hello everyone from distant Latvia.
Glad you are there, somewhere
I've been wanting to go to Latvia for a while. I have a lot of family there. 🇱🇻🇺🇸
Mum on the double bass provides the rails this train rides on, just stunning
Emmett is giving Jerry Douglas a run for his money. I’ve said for a long time Jerry is the best dobro picker in the world. Now there is another. Thank you and keep the great music coming!
I have been thinking the same thing about emmet
I assume you have his record? Highly recommend if not. :)
@@nicholashatcher2844 listening on Spotify. Great Album!
For a moment I feel me a westvirginian even I'm Brazilian.
Pois é, meu pai se amarrava no John Denver

Vontade de cruzar os Estados Unidos de leste a oeste na rota 66, ouvindo country.
