3am in central Otago southern New Zealand, winter do it's minus 3 Celcius outside and I'm taking a break from researching slow release honey bee oxalic acid treatments (I'm a beekeeper winter is holiday time) by watching you cook Apple crumble and getting hungry 😂
I would encourage everyone where possible to plant an apple tree , rhubarb, plum tree . You can plant these into containers if limited space . Free food after initial outlay then all these wonderful fruits for these fab traditional recipes and jams 😊
Hooray for fruit trees! Our friend has an orchard so this year we had an abundance of apples and plums. We stewed them and put them in containers in the freezer. Now I just defrost a container and put some crumble on top. ❤
I planted some fruit trees about 3 years ago and now finally getting some plums. I have gooseberries, blackcurrents etc and agree can't beat home grown produce. I freeze, dry and make preserves such as jams, chutney and pickles 😊
Before your videos, I had a standard pie crust/pastry recipe that worked well, but I've switched to your shortcrust and embraced using some lard (much cheaper). I've done several pies and pasties with your shortcrust, and my family has nothing but great things to say. Love your videos, and I love the cost breakdowns.
Just wanted to say that you have a fantastic channel going on here and its very apparent that you know your craft. You are making this world a better place friend, keep it up and wish you the best. Also you seem like a genuinely good man :)
We’re coming into peach season here in the southern US. I think I’ll substitute some peaches until we come into apple season. I can practically smell the cinnamon now! Thank you for another wonderful recipe
I love apple crumble, have done all my life, they're better than apple pies, which I also love though not quite as much. This crumble looked absolutely delicious and enjoyed your video. (Apple and blackberry is really nice as well) ❤️🇬🇧
Me to I could watch this sweet gentleman every day I so enjoy the simplicity of recipes and the break down of costs I’ll be making that for sure thank you for recipe
I've made these and frozen them , Cooked them straight from frozen for 40/ 45 minutes at 200 degrees non fan oven . They come out great ! Had a glut of apples from my tree saves wasting them 🙂
I always have apples! And when I crave a sweet treat, they're my go-to. A pie, muffins, an apple cake, the options are endless. BUT, I've never tried making a buttery sauce to toss the apples in. I'm definitely going to try it next time ❤ Thanks!
I made your scones which ended up being more like rock cakes and i love rock cake (i left them in the oven a bit too long) and then i found your video for rock cakes. Im definitely going to make this love from a very cold wintery Australia
You need a spatula to completely scrape the bowl of the apple juices!! I see that you are salivating at the pending trying of this delicious crumble. Keep the vids coming 😊
I planted an apple tree sapling in my allotment last year, it won't blossom until next year but looking forward to the Bramley apples from it to make a lovely crumble! Great comfort food puds!😊
The extra step with the sauce, or syrup as you call it, is new to me. But it's a lovely step to bind the applejuice. And yes, the brown sugar does a lot to elevate the taste even more. I will surely do it this way from now on. Just wonderful!
Best Channel on You Tube by far. The way you explain things is great, plus I love the fact that you don't have to have expensive equipment (which I don't) to get great results.Thank you.
That looks similar to the "apple crisp" that my Mom used to make. I make it also. We have always used all white sugar instead of brown sugar, but if you cook it in a hot oven (425 degrees F ) the top will toast and be wonderful. Sliding the dessert briefly under the broiler will ALSO work to brown the top. And YES a crumble (or a crisp) is delicious! I look forward to seeing your "pouring custard" recipe as it will be a new one for me!
Yum. Great video. Im in New Zealand. Its lunchtime. Zero degrees in Rotorua. A bit warmer now. I love to bake. And garden. Just been planting citrus trees. And placing frost cloth over them.😊😊
Looks yummy as usual. I love adding some oats to my crumble topping too. Also, I think there might be a slight mistake in your price calculations - you have 35g butter at 35p, making it £1/100g, but you also have 100g at 75p, making it 75p/100g.
My Mum used to make something similar to this. She would put sliced Granny Smith in a dish, drizzle Lyle's Golden Syrup over them, cover them with a short bread (Flour, sugar, and butter), and bake until golden and bubbly. My sister and I called it English apple cobbler. And you must have known what I was cooking today. I made this with fresh picked cherries. It's in the oven and my house smells amazing.
Brilliant again, sir. A quick idea for a video - M&S do a very delicious but pretty expensive cheese loaf. It’s like a white tin with a good crust and cheese in the bread dough. I’m sure people would love to know how to make it themselves for a fraction of the price, and if anyone can, you’re the man for the job.
My favorite apple dessert is the Dutch Apple Pie. An apple pie with with the crisp/crumble topping rather than the top crust. Best of both a pie and crumble at the same time. Love the video though!
Both my husband and i love apple crumble and always make it from scratch. Although I don't put cinnamon in it as i dont like the taste. Can't beat crumble with custard pure comfort food!
My man here tossing out all the classic comfort food. How can you not like this with a warm cup of coffee/tea? it's like the essence of homey kitchen food. Love it. that syrup you made was super interesting, will have to try your crumble version mate.
I write down every recipe in a small book and make it on the weekend, usually on Sunday's. Unfortunately my oven broke and I have to wait until my husband have an off weekend. Such a shame. This is his working weekend and it's only Wednesday. I have planted four apple trees but they haven't carried fruit yet. We had a very warm winter last year and this upcoming weekend for the first time the temperatures will drop to around 1 degrees Celsius. Hopefully it will carry the upcoming season. ( South Africa, Pretoria, Daspoort)
S. Ontario, Canada. Had fruit trees on farm. Cooked, canned, frozen many things. Getting too old for the heavy work now. Best way of life. Sons are 'city slickers' and are now going back to the natural foods parents grew. Taste better and no plastic. It is 84F here.
@@MargaretErbe-t7s 74 Fahrenheit max today in South Africa in the middel of the winter. Spring will arrive around first of September. I live in the Gauteng province. The Cape is much cooler and they get winter rain, which we don't. I have around 25 fruit trees. Grapes, guava, orange, nartjie, pecan, almond, fig, nectarines, mulberry, litchi, yellow peaches, mango, avocado, apple passionfruit, cape gooseberries, black berries, kiwi, bananas and lemon. All of them either planted from seeds or cuttings. Early this year we had a bumper grape, guava and peach harvest. I picked a big bowl of pecan nuts yesterday from my two pecan nut trees. My avocado tree haven't fruit yet but I keep my fingers cross for this year. I lost most of my bananas to fruit bats but they are adorable and I don't mind that. I made dried fruit rolls from the guava and peaches and they were fantastic. I love fruit, they are most definitely my Achilles heel.
Hi Dave, never made this with brown sugar before so look forward to trying your recipe, mines going to be with ice cream, i luv the hot and cold contrast.... Another brill video Dave.
