The fact that Andy did all this WHILE GIVING COMMENTARY is insane. the focus required to play that efficiently on 29 speed while talking at the same time is crazy
It's actually fucking adorable, I think, to have the two brothers being as high in the Tetris community as they both are. Like *that* is the competitive brotherly bonding of the century right there
@FrightNFight That's how it always should be! Not the stupid "I hate my brother cause he outshines me" thing you usually see when two brothers (or just siblings in general) are both really successful in the same sport (or art). Absolutely love to see that their successes don't get in the way of their relationship as loving and supportive family. They may compete for world championships, but at heart they're still just two brothers having a blast playing a video game together. And that's freaking awesome! 🥰
Andy going from in the shadow of his younger brother for YEARS to world record holder and top 3 player EVER is truly amazing. Getting the score world record couldn't have happened to anyone more deserving.
I don't know... they've felt like the Venus and Serena Williams of Tetris for a long time - I never got the feeling that Andy was in the shadows as we all knew it was just a matter of time.
12:46 Spotting that T placement is one thing with Scout pausing to pose the question and without the pressure of gravity, but I have to imagine it's a tougher call at that height and at speed. Great demonstration of how well-developed PixelAndy's game sense was to respond to the circumstances!
I don't play Tetris at all, but I've been following these videos for... Geez, half a decade now! The narrative surrounding the classic game and it's community is incredible, and your presentation of it makes it all the more easy to understand and enjoyable to watch! Congrats to PixelAndy!
Wow. 🙂 I rarely play Tetris games, and about NES version, my best was ~300k on a phone emulator. (I never had a NES). Now, still not playing, but behaving like a fan of the game, watching related videos and waiting now for confetti, desync, long level, and finally Rebirth!
One underrated thing about Andy is how you can make the case that he's a top 5 player in EVERY SINGLE playstyle - DAS, tap and Roll. The man is just built different! I'm rooting for him to get this year's CTWC title!
This always gets me. As soon as you add needing to evolve to a new play style to even get placements proper, it's going against too much muscle memory for me to fathom making changes like that at such a high level.
I think this finally gets NES Tetris back to what makes Tetris a puzzle game. The kill screen is, no doubt, one of the crowning achievements of Tetris, but it's more in the marathon tradition, with no real goal beyond survival. If you go all the way back to the days of Jonas's domination, what set him apart (and what made fellow DAS player GreenTea so competitive in the hypertapping era) was incredible stacking skill. NES Tetris is inherently on the "athletic" end of the Tetris spectrum, but once you've become consistent on that front, what makes the difference is how efficiently and cleanly you can stack some blocks. Since NES Tetris is once again a finite game in practice (at least at the world record level) scoring efficiency matters again, which implies only clearing Tetrises and cleanup with singles.
Good to know who the main character is lol That was such an anime moment. Him coaching himself and overcoming his self doubts MID GAME is so. Perfect lmao
I love tetris, I was once #100 on a worldwide leaderboard for a different version of tetris over a decade ago and the level of skill involved in the game now is absolutey absurd in comparison to what I was doing back then. I could not have competed in this version or in other more modern versions of tetris, with players like this truly amazing. Props to PixelAndy and the all the others.

Okay, now Andy's character arc and rise will only be complete when he takes his long-earned rightful place as World Champ later this year!! But seriously, thanks for the video Scout! Love you highlighting Andy's long history, going from being a great player somewhat in the shadow of his brother, the world champ; to a stand-out player setting staggering world records and netting regular championship wins himself. Ever since they hit the scene, I've loved the back and forth between dog and Andy, especially the part about how when they face each other in a competition, they feel like no matter who wins, they both win. Love aGameScout's videos, they are so informative & interesting to watch! So happy that he got to 100k+ subscribers, fully deserved for the plethora of great content! Also i'm loving what is happening in the Tetris scene at the minute
8.9 million, I've been watching classic tetris for a while now, I thijnk probably like, 5 years now, I think a few months before Jonas passed (tetris for Jonas!), and it's miraculous, you could've told me, "8.9 million score, level 29+, are 'normal' runs" And I wouldn't have belived you. The fact that this game, has gotten to a point where you play at level 29 still boggles me. The crazy part is there is still a gigantic milestone ahead, the rebirth run. At level 255, if you can avoid all possible crashes, you can get to level 256, which resets back to level 0, with your score being still as high as ever, and your line count, still as high as it was at level 255, the only thing, the color palette fixes, and the level speed, is a true level 0 speed, when will they hit a rebirth run I wonder lol
It’s incredible how everyone in the Tetris community is pushing hard to keep it wholesome and healthy. Few gaming communities can be proud of being this free of toxicity.
Excellent narration dude! I just came to have a quick look at the new record holder and now, 15min later, I just realized how hooked I am by your storytelling.

Man, I never thought I'd be so invested in tetris world records lol
Tetris is going crazy rn 😂
I like this dude's vibe, he's always smiling and so positive.
Bro Tetris players are getting crazier
12:27 7 combo lol
Never thought i would watch an 18min vid about tetris and also enjoy it this much.
Awesome video !
It’s incredible how everyone in the Tetris community is pushing hard to keep it wholesome and healthy. Few gaming communities can be proud of being this free of toxicity.
That’s because it’s strictly merit based and single player so no one can force/push DEI.
Excellent narration dude!
I just came to have a quick look at the new record holder and now, 15min later, I just realized how hooked I am by your storytelling.
that video is fun
Nice vid. Congrats on 100 K subscribers!
I love your ability to break down these stories for laymen without simplifying them so much that they seem dumbed down.
And the storyline behind it is insane! This might become my favourite example of what it means to be "in the zone".
Bro i'm from Italy, and i really love tetris even if i don't play it, but your videos are really perfect in every single particular. I wish every channel i follow here on youtube was managed by you 🤩
I love the work you put into presentation of these amazing feats, stellar scoring choices and beautifully written commentary
Wonderful production. Thanks for your efforts
