Thanks to rolling and lvl 39 supper kill screen, the tetris game is progressing so fast that we have new greatest tetris game of all time almost every month. I'm a fan of Texas brothers but hell, Alex is sooooooo much fun to watch. He's so aggressive that he tops out early (
the incredible sportsmanship from Tommy, immediately clapping after seeing Alex's score and what happened at the end. fantastic game from the both of them, and massive respect shown from both players, beautiful thing to behold! this is what keeps brining me back to competitive tetris
Hell yeah, great to see your support here on Tetris! Loved seeing your accidental WR the other day too! You guys are taking gaming to a whole new level 😃
Love how friendly they are, clapping and cheering for each other. I'm used to competitive Smash where you get a dismissive handshake at best and death threats aren't uncommon.
FGC in general can be pretty toxic. I've competed in a few locals and some online tournaments in Tekken and while people are generally supportive - you'll get the few that say some egregiously horrible things to you. One dude in the States, can't remember who but he got arrested for getting rejected by one of the girls that were competing - he threatened to rape her and shoot up the event that she attended. Was dumb enough to post his unhinged rant on YT before it got taken down lol
It probably helps that the game is less about clawing each other down and is more just a single player game made competetive, where everyone is just aiming for excellence and the only way to beat someone is to step up your own game.
Absolutely gutted for Tommy. The second single greatest performance in the history of the new format....and it still wasn't enough for a victory. Props to him for clapping and cheering, though!
It was the FIRST greatest performance until he lost. Dude literally did better than ANYONE has EVER done and it was still not enough. Absolutely unbelievable game.
I swear to god their potential was pushed to their limits right there, they really did go all or nothing on these games and made the #1 greatest game in history
Good lord it's only been two years since rolling was a nascent concept and the killscreen was just beginning to become an actual playable part of competition matches and now they've already busted it so wide open that they had to make another harder killscreen. This is some wild rate of development
Right? I remember watching the video where when they first discovered rolling and were wondering "is this the future?, will this overtake hyper tapping"? People were doing statistics on tapping abilities and then rolling came. Absolutely transformed the game, but despite new generation coming in, I feel like tetris is one the few communities where OGs are still given a lot of respect because it's understood it was a different time, different place and different skills/knowledge
@@darkithnamgedrf9495 super killscreen helps shortens games so they'd be more fast paced, and since there's less wiggle room for catchups, it incentivises players to play more aggressively early on. those absolutely make fore MORE exciting matches.

I noticed that Alex was doing the same thing Cheez does when it comes to the killscreen. Instead of having the traditional right well, they opted to just go with whichever column happened to have the empty well at the time. Not sure why but it seems like the optimal way to play at 29 speeds. Probably because instead of sticking to a structured playstyle - the 29 speed is probably too fast to stick to a structure so it's better to just take what the game gives you and what the board ends up with. It's a more reactionary playstyle - which again considering the speed, it's probably better to just "react" instead of trying to "think" about what's happening which can slow you down. I could be wrong though but I've seen Tetrises hit more consistently when done this way.
I love the implementation of the super kill screen. Rolling flattened the game a little with players being virtually immortal. I kind of lost interest after Eric's win in the last CTWC. This video is perfect. The explanations, the editing, the pacing. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! I never knew Tetris was this competitive, let alone actively evolving today to the point where competitions had to patch the game to make it even harder.
Unbelievable how much this game has changed in the last 5 years
Your commentary on this was super hype!
