    I saw your post on the Wildlife Networking page, and I have so much love for this video. I am an Ecology graduate a couple of years out of my studies, with volunteer experience, and I have still got no paid position. I am constantly doubting whether I have already fallen too far behind and forgotten the skills I need to succeed. This video has definitely soothed some worries. thank you.

      TinyAnnie ahh it has made me so happy to read that you got something out of this! I’ve absolutely been there and know so many others who have been/are. You’re far from alone! You won’t have forgotten your skills, just keep building on them in some small way, even if it’s free online courses etc (which you can include that you’ve done in applications). If you aren’t on the two listservs I mention here I strongly recommend you sign up, as they often have posts from academics seeking people with a relevant degree in paid or stipend positions. Good luck!! It’s all just one building block at a time!

      Hi! One year from school, I keep trying as well! I gave up dream internship abroad because of corona and I am without wildlife job/activity since then. Working in a coffee and different things but lets keep dreaming and trying :-D

      Karolina Mikslová I’m so sorry this happened to you! Don’t worry, I have a friend who went from working full time in a restaurant to a senior role in an overseas conservation project! Conservation work is so intermittent, just keep that passion alive and keep expressing it. My website lists free conservation courses and places you can volunteer for wildlife online if you are interested!

    I'm so thankful for your information and heartfelt determination to conservation. From a very young age, probably 4 I started trying to help wildlife, mostly squirrel and rabbits be we must all start somewhere. Animals naturally felt safe and comfortable around me as I suspect they can tell where are hearts are when we do help. Among the multiple classes offered in wildlife conservation, biology, etc. can I suggest some in psychology, which I majored in. I believe everyone who is taking classes in any area for their career can benefit. Understanding human responses, personalities and how each of us respond to various forms of stimuli and learning. It carries over to the wildlife we so want to protect as well. Also when we are applying for grants or pleading our case study findings.

    • @StephintoNature
      @StephintoNature  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s such an interesting perspective! Learning to navigate humans so that we can work to help wildlife is definitely needed, but isn’t something that has occurred to me before. In my personal experience I’m sure that animals can sense how we feel!

      @@StephintoNature I completely agree & I apologise for not clearly explaining. I know all conservationist are passionate about the cause they are fighting for so sometimes when we present our plight to others who may not be hands on, it helps to understand the people who sit behind desks or provide the funding and aren't really hands on. Does that make sense? It's like using psychology as a customer service tool. Cheers!

    Steph this is absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for your hard work!
    One quick question: As someone who has already finished a bachelor in Business & Marketing, how can overcome any disadvantages associated with not studying ecology?
    I am very much a self-starter when it comes to acquiring new skills. Like filmmaking, which you can see on my channel. I guess this ties in with your great advice about evidencing your passion - I am currently working on a film which will hopefully do just that. But in terms of the educational side, would you recommend trying to do a lot of these online courses? Or perhaps a research paper or blog that I could reference to demonstrate I have a lot of knowledge despite not studying a relevant degree at university?

    • @StephintoNature
      @StephintoNature  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much! It's great you have the business and marketing side, that's what I don't have! I think it's like you say, you need to evidence your passion of ecology/nature/wildlife. So I would recommend taking a look at these blog posts: stephintonature.com/blog/free-online-wildlife-conservation-courses this gives you a list of conservation courses you can take for free, though a lot of them you can pay extra for a certificate. stephintonature.com/blog/volunteer-for-wildlife-online this gives a list of places you can volunteer for wildlife for free online. In fact, there's one place where you can help wildlife charities by offering your skills for free, maybe you could see if anyone was requesting any film-based skills? Research papers/blogs are definitely a great idea if you have the time!

    I’m just starting college in the spring for a bachelors in Fisheries & Wildlife biology and Secondary Education my goal career is to work as a park ranger or some sort of wildlife biologist / ecologist, do you have any tips or helpful advice for when I’m in college? And for after graduation?

    • @StephintoNature
      @StephintoNature  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lawson Hurley that sounds awesome! What a cool line of work. While you’re in college definitely try to get some volunteering in if it’s an option. Something I’d also advise is looking for job adverts for your dream jobs and looking at their requirements for the position, then start taking actions to ensure that you will have that skill set one day. After graduation, and during college tbh, just don’t give up if the work is hard to get at first, people can end up taking all sorts of odd jobs between wildlife positions. Good luck!

      @@lawsonhurley5549 I reckon it is, I’ve seen job adverts for these roles saying they’d prefer a masters, but never they I was an absolute necessity. I think getting a bunch of experience is probably more beneficial!
