If I were young again, I would seriously consider not going to college / university. Unless it's for a science degree you're wasting time. Get out and work in the field you love and you'll never look back. Training can be provided on the job and really the universities and colleges are charging too much for the eduction they deliver. Also if almost everyone has a degree they become worthless.

I do seasonal serving rn for the summer and winter seasons- do it!!
You get free housing (sometimes reduced), a meal plan, and make good money outside of national parks-though this does depend on location. I usually can pull $200-600 a shift depending, the most I’ve made is around $900 after tip out working 3:30-11:00 and serving 6 of those hours the rest side work. Average I’d say is $250-$400 but it depends on job and location. On your off days you go hiking and exploring beautiful nature and often get massive discounts on local attractions. Like $20 for whale watching in Alaska compared to $220, or free snorkeling in the gulf twice. You only work about 10 months of the year depending and can make $35-$55k easily. I usually only work 30-35hours weekly and make plenty money to sustain myself. It’s also common for couples to travel seasonally for work. Please look into it, even as a summer job it is so rewarding and lucrative for the work and your coworkers are all chill as hell nomad adventure types.. like please look into it

Thanks for making this video! I’m 12 but I’m already looking for jobs to do when I’m older. To know all the options gives me a good view on what to choose later. I’m focusing on being a wildlife biologist. But the time I’m old enough to do wildlife jobs, I probably will start with one of these jobs. I live in the Netherlands so I’ll probably have to do some research. When I’m 20 or older I’m planning to move to another country so I’ll look up jobs at those places I might wanna go. And information about it. I love watching you’re videos and I hope you will do this much longer! You’re doing a good job!

There’s a lot more to being a fishing guide. You just don’t go out and do it. You have to know seasonal patterns ,weather ,different techniques that takes years to learn. A college degree in Marine biology does help immensely + Professional fishing background. The closest thing you could do with no experience you could help on a charter boat and be a deckhand to start.

Its really normal for the first job to be very difficult to get (I must have sent out hundreds of applications) but maybe its a different market then when I graduated

Question: say if I wanted to build my own nature preserve (like wide scale or something like that). Would that be something that would require a degree or can I just do it without one?

Depends, if you are the one buying the property you can do whatever you want and self teach yourself. If you are trying to get hired as a land manager on someone else's property they'll probably want to see a degree or lots of experience

I have a passion for art and for biology but I’m having a hard time choosing for school, I’m 3 years into an art degree but I’m having serious thoughts about making a mistake and wasting my time and money on this degree. Do you think it would be a safe bet to double major in biology and art? I just don’t know what I want to do with my life but I want it to be meaningful and enjoyable.

Hey, defs do both of you can manage. From my experience graduating with an Art Bachelors Degree I’m here 3 years later looking into a new degree, wish I had both under my belt already. Then if you find you like one more than the other you can always specialize in that for more schooling afterward 😁. Hope this helps! Good luck whatever you choose.

What’s bothering me is that I want an outdoor job, but something is blocking me from being interested. I’m scared to admit that I feel less intelligent than average. Don’t really bring much to the conversation. Didn’t read a lot growing up. I just feel empty in the brain. I’m being honest. There are so many different paths I could go in life, but this is why I’m stuck at square one. Is there something I can do alone and make money?

A bit, but definitely not more than 2-3 classes! I just have to take 2 for a B.S. in Environmental Science. It’s really the concepts of chemistry that help you understand other important concepts you’ll come across in Environmental Science. Don’t be intimidated by it!

Hi, student in Alberta here! In my program it depends on your program and course choices. Focusing on soil especially requires chem knowledge but for something like wildlife/plant ecologist/biologist it might not be necessary (it depends on the program though- check your course listing!).

I’d like to go around a large piece of land without people on it patrolling whilst living on the land.
    Is this a job?
I grew up on 1300+acres with just three people including myself so even though I now live within a city I know the ways of the land and can easily backpack anywhere and start fires catch food build I have worked in a multitude of genres of work to grow my knowledge base.
I work best alone and with animals I once pet a completely wild cow elk by sneaking on my belly into the herd slowly over the course of an afternoon (I was youngin and was exploring the surrounding lands until supper) it was asleep but rolled onto its back after a few strokes of its side. I held my breathe so intensely as all that was needed was for one eye to open or for one of the surrounding to smell me. I waited until I felt ill and it grew dim and then began my backward crawl. Once home well past sundown papa was furious until he noticed my grin non diminishing. As I told him his eyes grew with tears and he just said well done and grinned at me with such warmth. I felt proud yet also in trouble within that moment I learnt a new value.
