Seiko is a brand that can lay claim to a number of iconic dive watches, but there is another Seiko diver dating back to the early 80s that is perhaps better described as a cult classic rather than an icon, the analog-digital diver known as the Seiko “Arnie”. In this video, we’ll take a look at Seiko’s updated Arnie, the SNJ025 and discuss why this behemoth of the watch is so easy to love.

Bought the original while serving in the Army in the 80's and used it for sport diving. A few years ago O rediscovered it in an old dive gear bag and it just needed cleaning and a new battery. So when the new one came out a few years ago, I just had to get one. So now, I have the original as well as the new solar model.

Love this watch! I have an emotional connection to the original back in the early 80's, it was my very first watch I've purchased. I had made the mistake taking off the outer shell in hopes of cleaning it. So I took it to have it repaired and when I had enough money to pick it up the shop went out of business. I was floored beyond disbelief! Fast forward 40 years later I finally received the remake as a birthday gift! Went full circle on this one and the joy to own once again filled that sadness I had for decades...

My original orange face "Arnie" finally suffered a terminal failure. After nearly 40 years the movement is shot and a replacement one is not available. I've been looking at this watch for a few months.
I purchased my original in appx 1983 on Naval Station Guam. It was my daily wear watch and I made dozens of dives with it. Other than replacing straps and occasional batteries I never had any issues with it. The bezel has a few nicks and scratches but the case is solid. If this one keeps the standard set by the original, you're going to have a great watch.

One of my most favorite watches ever. Had an original one but sadly sold it (big regret) but was happy to be able to by the new version (which is beautiful). Not the original but a worthy addition to any collection. The new features are awesome, especially it being solar. The orginal kinda eat batteries and I hated to open the back some many time. The original model was also worn by James Cameron when he worked with Arnie in the 80s. I noticed it on his wrist in documentaries for Terminator and Aliens. Interesting coincidence and their tastes in watches have certainly elevated accordingly to their success since, these days with Cameron’s Sea-dweller and Arnie’s Panerai and AP😎

Thank you for mentioning Casio G-Shocks. "Arnie" definitely has a G-Shock vibe in it. My modest "watch collection" consists of seven G-Shocks (four inexpensive and three more expensive models), Luminox Atacama 1944 field watch and of course Seiko "Arnie" SNJ025P1. I recently bought G-Shock GWG-2000-1A1 Mudmaster which is pretty awesome. It's really hard to decide which one I'm going to wear each day. At the moment I like the Seiko Arnie and the new generation Mudmaster equally. Both of them are very cool in their own way. Good review. Subscribed.

I haven‘t worn a watch in 15 years. Last year I wanted to buy one and researched everything to know about wrist watches. Also thanks to your channel, I kinda got the hang of it on what to look for and what to avoid.
My goal was to find a quality watch on a budget with sentimental value for me (basically a connection to my favorite movies). Since a Rolex Submariner was out of reach (sorry, Mr. Bond), I decided to focus on one my favorite action star and pulled the trigger on the Seiko Arnie.
Man, after one year I have to say: what a fantastic tool watch! Wears smaller, very comfortable and durable as Conan. Absolutely recommendable!
A little trivia: James Bond wore the Arnie in a deleted scene from A View To A Kill. So, I also got my Bond watch 😉

I have had a number of Seiko watches over the years. I have never had a problem with a watch, whether it was automatic or quartz movement. I can't say the same for other brands like Tissot. I had one Seiko quartz watch that lasted 31 years. The AD said quartz movements usually don't last that long since the quartz part eventually dies out. I was contacted by a person from regional head office later to see what model of theirs would last that long. I am now into the "cocktail" line of Seiko watches, or Presage line. They have an automatic movement with great looking dials.

I just restored the case of my first G-Shock. It is a DW-6000 from 1991 (I got it that year). The resin case was in bad shape, all broken up, but managed to get a replacement case, replacement band, and it is still going strong! I took it to a watchmaker to clean it up and replace the battery and seal, and he said that I should never get rid of the watch, it has all metallic parts and with good care the module will last forever!
So now that it broke the 30 year mark, I hope to have when it gets to 40! :D

Yes, the strap is long (and I have larger than avg wrist size) but the rubber is very comfortable. Coupled with the face that it's also 'light' considering it's size means you can wear all day.

It was supposed to have a garrote wire in it as shown in a deleted scene from the same movie when Bond gets his personal effects back from the French police; a policeman remarks that the watch is "most unusual", to which Bond replies, 'From Russia with love", referencing Red Grant's garrote watch from the Connery film of the same name.

I've had a Casio G-Shock solar for a long time and have been wanting an analog style watch that I never have to change the battery is great. I bought this watch after seeing your review, otherwise I may have never know about it. The fact that it's solar charged and never needs a new battery makes it a perfect tool.

I for one, appreciate the combination of hands and digital. I have something similar from Casio which I picked up for wear when I’m doing physical labor ( yard work, cutting wood, changing engine oil, you get the picture). For me a watch just isn’t a watch without hands, but I don’t want to wear a Sub or GMT when turning wrenches, or when painting the bedroom. Something like this that’s inexpensive, reliable, and wears well is the ticket for me many times.

Was excited to see this review on your channel. Got this version a couple weeks ago, and has been on my wrist nonstop. Very light and although dimensions large, doesn’t wear much larger than my SRPD27 Monster or my SKX007. Only negative for me is having to unscrew 10pm crown to use backlight on the digital and also bezel not the best. Plus side is the Solar and the battery meter. Lume is excellent. Side note, being born/raised in NE Ohio, appreciate your channel that much more!

I owned the original way back in 82 and bought another one in 85, and loved them so much they where my favorite watches! The watch first appeared in the James Bond movie a view to a kill, but it really took off as an icon when Arnold wore it in those movies. The first one I lost swimming and the other one after the battery died I put it in the original box, and while moving it probably got stolen! I almost cried knowing that I will never see the watch again! Fast forward to 2019 and when I saw it again on their website I was jumping for joy! I ended up buying two of them! Now they are made way better than the original, even though the original will always be the icon! But this one with its solar movement and accuracy is way better. I love the watch and I’m glad that Seiko brought it back! Great review!👌😎👍

I have the PADI version and I must say: it´s very fun to wear and use; extremely comfortable given its dimensions; not unbalanced at all on my 7 1/4 wrist; one of my top picks when I need a robust, reliable and sophisticated watch. I love the time setting, yes, but also the power saving function, where the clock turns off in darkness, but automatically adjusts the time as soon as a light source hits the dial. Doesn't it have a premium quality? Probably not, but there are plenty of reissues nowadays and few represent anything more than intentions of higher sales thanks to fashion or nostalgia. In this case we have a true tool watch that is also a cult classic.

I am coming back here to add my $0.02. This is a big watch and it is thick. But, it is not too big. I have just over a 7 inch wrist and I am not a "big watch guy." Still, this one got into my head and after thinking (and thinking some more) about getting one, I puled the trigger. I simply love this bad boy. Somehow, it just doesn't wear that big. The dial is not large and the black plastic shroud and the narrower lugs shrink it on wrist. The strap is amazingly comfortabe and it just wears really well. It is a great watch to bash about a bit and would be great for travel and weekend wear. I have even worn it with a shirt, tie and blazer and it came off fine. So, go ahead if you are thinking about it. Enjoy!

i do feel it's a touch pricey for being quartz with a rubber strap (but same could be said for some G-Shocks). I also agree with your view on the strap. it's extremely long & looks funky on my 6.5 in wrist (although i do like the metal keeper look). All in all. as an Arnold Fan who grew up in the Hay day of films like Commando & Predator. i have endorse this as one of those that, while a little over priced & definitely large & in charge. it's a solid alternative to the digitals & Mud Masters out there & a must have if you're a big fan of Arnold (and you can pull it off size wise).

I use an old Orient quartz chronograph in the gym, I need it to time my interval during sets.
As it's quite old and not digital, sometimes it's difficult to see how many minutes went through, it's common to get a bit blurry view after a heavy set :D
I thought about getting a G-Shock... but I guess you convinced me otherwise sir!
This is a perfect mix for me, looks like a regular dive, but rugged enough for gym and with a digital display!
