Just a heads up. There is some issue with the recently produced Solar Arnies. Ones made in late 2023, and maybe into 2024. Not entirely sure what is wrong with them, but I've heard that they will constantly reset themselves. Something about once they are fully charged and exposed to more sun, it causes some glitch. Hopefully, this will be fixed soon.
I've had this watch for about 2 years....I LOVE IT. I use is for snorkeling, surfing and paddle boarding. I don't find hard to read at all....and I have 57 year old eyes. I also have 7.25 inch wrist and it fits me perfectly. I do have it on a Nato strap. Just makes look that much cooler. I'd highly recommend it to any outdoor enthusiast.😉👍🏼
@@brianmsahin I have had the Mudmaster GWG 1000 for a while now and love it. Still, the Arnie is pretty cool in and of itself. G-shocks, MTM and Seiko Arnie.... all my beat around watches. love em all

The reissue is not a flop great watch . One of the best seikos I have . Lines up perfectly, second hand hits every mark and the bezel has very nice action . Wherever seiko made these they made sure to do an excellent job as mine is indicative of all the other examples I’ve seen.
@@myhandlewastakenandIgaveup me too … I’ve worn mine so much the factory strap is getting kind of sticky . Prob going to throw in on a nato .. although leather sounds interesting
It seems rather like Seiko's Captain Willard reissue ... not a flop, similar feel and similar (not the same) design ... much more expensive ... not the same feel as the original.
I.m always wearing my Arnie to the beach so sand/dirt gets into the bezel, making it tougher to turn (particularly due to the shroud blocking a full grip), but a quick soapy wash & WD40 squirt, its better than new.
I have the FDE version. It looks incredible and takes the place of a GMT with a 2nd time zone. Also it is an analog watch with a perpetual calendar. Not too many of those around with stopwatch, solar, 200M water resistant and dive bezel that lines up with no backplay. I have a 7.25 inch wrist and it fits perfectly on my wrist due to the tuna design. When you put it into a drawer it goes to sleep in the dark and wakes up when light hits it and the hands advance to the correct time. It's the coolest watch ever!
Pining after the H558 I owned back in the day, I ended up getting the "Safarnie". I was very hesitant due to the size, but I too was quite pleased with how it wore once I finally pulled the trigger. Anyone worried about the same thing (I have a sub 7" wrist), go ahead and try it. I am also impressed that the module is so close to the original. They easily could have put separate analog/digital controls, but they actually integrated them.
I also have the Safarnie. Try swapping out the strap for a black one. It completely changes the personality of the watch. I swap back and forth often. Cheers!
I have have a H558 brought in 1986. Still going strong. Love this watch. The new ones look cool. Probably get a new one,but in NZ they are over $900.00 .
@ 5:40 - pretty sure the internal chapter ring is the solar cell. I received mine with a charge at 8 of 10, from the box (which unless it was stored open, was stored 2 years based on serial # date). Since then, it has never been below a 10, no matter how little I use it. It has an energy saving feature that only keeps the internal clock on, when not in direct light for periods of time. As I said, an apocalypse watch!
Outstanding bit of kit. Only Seiko are this good. I've had mine a few years now, and I'm so thankful Seiko brought out this reissue. As someone who grew up through the mid 1980's, I kick myself that I didn't have an original as a kid. Besides I was more interested in the G-Shock square back then. This is cracking watch and I whole heartedly recommend grabbing one if you've been remotely tempted.
I bought one 2months ago, added the stainless steel shroud and yes, i used to wear a watch only while out in the water, but this one i am wearing every day, love it
I have both the original Arnie and its original little brother, the “baby Arnie “, which is 38mm and doesn’t have the shroud. The baby is great for my 6.5” wrist. If seiko did a modern baby Arnie, I’d definitely get one. You should have demonstrated the cool feature of the analog hands setting themselves automatically after the digital time is set so the second hand is synced with the digital seconds counter. That feature alone will sell the watch. I’m a little OCD, and hate to see the analog hands and digital second counter out of synch. Great video as always.
Sorry, I meant to to say to show a close up of the hands syncing with the digital time, especially if the hands move more than 12 hours to sync. My bad.
Shane, I have glimpsed the Arnie in a few of you recent vids so looking forward to this review! Great vid on a really interesting Seiko. Interested in a solar quartz Seiko wearable, affordable Diver's 200M with eye catching looks, and good QA. As a Casio G-Shock, ProTrek and Citizen Eco-Drive fan it is exciting to see a Seiko Diver with solar, power meter, power save, backlight, stopwatch, multiple time zones, perpetual calendar, features. Even if it doesn't have a CDT, multiband, bluetooth, ABC, shock resistance or other features a Casio would offer in this price range. The Ani-Digi face is little small but I like the chapter rings and it looks and its exciting to see Seiko start to offer divers with more features and their unique diver design. Great review, its on the list!
I own both - The SNJ25 and the SNJ037P1 The SNJ25 Is definitely my favourite and truthful to the original Seiko Arnie. I just love that 80s vibe.... is one of my daily wearers. Great video 👍👍
I have a solar" Safarnie" SNJ029. I was gifted it for my birthday, so I would never would have bought it (prob would have chosen a black Pepsi). Its PERFECT. Very unassuming on its tan rubber strap. Bold baton dial markers. After a year, I recently put it on a black carbon-fiber O-like strap & it is completely transformed! It feels like wearing a brand new all-black watch - the tan accents blending in so subtle, its a sight to behold. Two styles in one! If its one watch to take to the apocalypse, its this on
Bought my first Seiko analog-digital--with a H556 movement, brother to the Arnie's H558--in 1983. Was my daily wearer for 19 years. Have bought 4 more Seiko analog digitals (including the SNJ29, brother to the SNJ25), 1 Casio analog digital, and two Timex Expedition analog-digital watches since then. Some thoughts on the SNJ29, which I've had about 2 1/2 years. I'm most interested in the functional (tool-watch) aspects of analog-digital watches. Most of the positive aspects of the SNJ025 family were covered in RT's excellent review, so I won't repeat them for the most part. These SNJ watches still don't have an electronic countdown timers. Seiko has not put such a countdown timer on even one of its Seiko-branded analog-digital watches during the last 40 years. Incredible. Almost as annoying is that the backlight on these SNJ watches doesn't work while the stopwatch is running. Pushing the backlight button while the stopwatch is running stops the stopwatch. Same as the H556 and H558 movements. 40 years and no addressing of this issue. The lume on my SNJ29 is pretty good, almost as good as that on my Seiko Sumo. However, the red stick portion of the seconds hand is difficult to discern in low light. I suspect that the white stick portion of the SNJ25's second hand is more visible, but not by much. I would very much prefer that Seiko use a second hand identical or similar to that Seiko uses on the Sumo. Accuracy on my two Seikos with the H023 "world timer"movements and that of my SNJ25 is about 15 seconds fast a month under "normal temperatures." That is within specs. However, my two Timex Expedition analog-digital watches (which cost around $50 dollars apiece), have run around 1-2 seconds fast or slow a month. Wonder why these much less expensive Timexes are so much more accurate--not that it matters all that much. Alarm chime very weak, considerably weaker than on my regular battery-powered Seiko analog-digitals. Wouldn't count on it to wake me up. Having both my Seiko H023 movements go wonky within ten years of purchase, I've kept that in mind when purchasing more recently bought analog-digital watches, including my SNJ29. When doing certain types of work (e.g. axe work, ice scraping/chopping, using a spade when gardening) I prefer wearing an electronic watch over a mechanical. No question that my Seiko analog-digitals (as well as my G Shocks) are/have been more sturdily built (and have greater water resistance, when screwed down) than my Timex Expeditions. But, for wear around the house or yard (when not sporting a mechanical watch), I generally prefer wearing my Expeditions over the Seiko analog-digitals.
Unique, yet cool styling. Like the whole reissue vibe it’s got going on. Definitely an option for the ultra tough watch segment. I’d probably opt for a gshock or inox myself though.
i had a green one for a year but the display was just to small for me. i sold mine to buy a steel similar to the one you showed. protreks like the prw-60 are more my style though.
Another good video Shane. I own this watch and dig it. I wear it on my right wrist so I don’t have the issue with the pushers you did. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it wears on wrist.
Nice video. I faced some problems with the watch. The digital screen turns off from the interview itself. What is the solution now? It was new a month ago. I was surprised by it.
Not sure what you mean by " turns off from the interview itself." Interview? Either way my best guess is to try and email Seiko to see if they say anything.
Love the style but its large size limits it to larger wrists unlike some of the Gshocks that still work on smaller wrists. Also lack of atomic time or BT, along with other functions (ABC) found on most outdoor Casios make it a bit obsolete. But if you don't want or need those functions and your wrist is 7+ inches it's a great watch. Wish I could wear it but, as Arnie would say, I have girly-man wrists!
Good review, I like it, but as you say the hands are tiny. I've just bought the G Shock gm 2100c utility series with metal case and nylon strap, I think it looks more modern and is probably tougher.
I want a Seiko Arnie. It might not be the most practical watch but I love how it looks. I own several G Shocks so the size doesn't bother me. I will get one eventually when I find one for the right price.
I love these. There are the 3 originals, the two Safarnies, and the 3 new ones with depth sensors. Theres a Tropical Lagoon variant too now. I own3 but love them all. I normally prefer a smaller watch, but these just work. Only gripe is the strap, not a fan of silicone. The Uncle Straps GL831 is ideal.
I always thought they would be ridiculously oversized but it honestly didn’t look out of place on your wrist. It looked great on that carbon fiber/red lined strap. It’s sort of a thing unto itself at this point. Kind of like wearing a Casio databank. Totally redundant and sort of silly but cool nonetheless.
I just got one, the digital time doesn’t synchronize with the analog , they don’t match, i tried the hard reset but didn’t work. any idea how to fix it??
When you change the time digitally, does the hands change at all? Like if you adjust it 10 minutes forward, do they move 10 minutes forward? Or they just don't move at all? If they do adjust but they're not synced up, could be that the hands are misaligned. And I think there's a way to reset that specifically.
I used to own the original back then and I loved it! Now I’m glad they reissued it! And I think Seiko did a great job in recreating the original and improved it. Now is way better than the original, I know the original can never be replaced!! But I think this one is well done! I love it!
Iconic and classic, a league of its own. For Solar Quartz, this Ana-Digi and Chronograph SSC783 are so special in design and is like a bump-up version of a basic diver's.
LET'S GET TO DA CHOPPA 😄👊! Seriously, love this watch. Some Seiko design magic going on here, making this big piece wearable like a midsize watch. No misalignment, no QC issues - and I really dig the surrealistic melting dial effect, especially under lume. Found one for around 380€ and never regretted buying it.
I've had mine for a couple years now, and I think the biggest issue that I've had is that the cotter pins that hold the pushers in keeps failing, and I keep having to send it away to get those replaced, which is extremely time-consuming
Awesome watch and there is no watch that you could substitute for a dive computer.. There may be watches with most of what a dive computer may offer but they will lack the surface area to clearly see the information..
To be honest, I think that if you don't need a gps watch, for example a Garmin instinct but you still need a good tool watch, Arnie is the best choice out there. Is precise, solar, though, and has electronic functions and a quick bezel for fast timing.
I bought mine because it's the "same" watch Arnie wore in Commando, Raw Deal and Predator and I have wanted this watch since I was a teen in the 80s. I may another as I wear this every day.
The Arnie and Lunar Pilot are classic watches in the approximately 45mm size, although in different categories. I just don't understand the Arnie's single time zone: Casio's GA-100, among others, supports different times on the ana and digi displays.
I saw someone wearing one last fall, and had to get one. I think there are a number of online sellers with it now, but I got mine here: www.etsy.com/listing/884420673/texas-millennium-falcon-shirt
You dont want a saphire crystal on a dive watch that you may be relying on underwater. A hardlex crystal will scratch and ding, but not shatter, remaining functional. A saphire crystal is much harder, but if it takes a knock and shatters the watch is no longer functional and your dive is not being timed. Horses for courses. (and before you say nobody dives with them anymore.... I do in fact scuba dive with my seikos all the time)
You have a point. Last time I was on a dive boat I was thinking something similar. Especially as I was getting thrown around trying to get up the latter back in the boat. So it makes sense why Seiko doesn't do it, as Hardlex is a nice middle ground. Although it gets a little more confusing as they do put sapphire on their more expensive divers.
@@RelativeTime I think, just like Rolex, they understand their expensive diver watches arent worn by divers and that market likes saphire crystals. I have more expensive watches, but I still dive with a seiko. If I owned a submariner, I would still dive with a seiko....
This one never had that issue, but I've been hearing this more and more. Sounds like it's some odd flaw from those made in late 2023. Still trying to sort through it and figure out if anyone knows exactly whats going on.
A great watch Shane. I have this model. I do love the ana-digi look but having more functions on the display make it better. For my adventuring I use my G-Shock GWG-2000 Mudmaster, shock resistant forged carbon, 200m water dust and mud resistance, solar powered, multi band 6, world time, digital compass, barometer, altimeter, thermometer, 1/100th of a, second stop watch, auto hand correction if it gets a big impact, 5 alarms, super illuminator lighting, sapphire crystal with AR. And can be had for as low as $550! If I was hunting aliens in the South American jungle tomorrow, I'd be taking my G-Shock, not my Arnie! 💪💪😉
Cool suburbanites Hollywood gimick watch. Otherwise, it's a major safety hazard for anyone doing real manual work. Might as well strap a grappling hook on your wrist. Military, Fire, Search and Rescue, diving, climbing, rope-work, mechanics, etc. Most people who wear this watch probably don't need to clean under their fingernails. Cheers.
It won't flop because Seikophiles will buy anything that the company puts. And if the watch has been in a movie, they will be standing in. Frankly, it just not my cup of tea. You sell yours ASAP. No offense but it dwarfed your wrist.
I saw some guy on my cruise last fall wearing it, and I had to get one. There are a number of online sellers now, but this is where I got mine. www.etsy.com/listing/884420673/texas-millennium-falcon-shirt
@efvar8338 0 seconds ago I used this watch just for walks and it only last it a year and half, very disappointed. There is a plastic under the display, it came off and now the second hand can’t rotate. Beautiful watch but not tough though

I love it!
I have 3 - the one shown , and the 2 urban safaris - so I love it.
Can you wear without the shroud?
Iconic and classic, a league of its own. For Solar Quartz, this Ana-Digi and Chronograph SSC783 are so special in design and is like a bump-up version of a basic diver's.
LET'S GET TO DA CHOPPA 😄👊! Seriously, love this watch. Some Seiko design magic going on here, making this big piece wearable like a midsize watch. No misalignment, no QC issues - and I really dig the surrealistic melting dial effect, especially under lume. Found one for around 380€ and never regretted buying it.
@ 1:50 - where did you get that Zulu strap?
I believe that's a blushark strap.
Hi Shane! I'd love one, but, I have a 6,5 inch wrist,... Yeah,... It's a classic, and it looks good on you. I'd say keep it.
I bought an after market metal shroud and bracelet, made mine into a full metal Arnie.
You created a Terminator. 😂
@@pzwolski Oh, Noooooo!!
To be honest, I think that if you don't need a gps watch, for example a Garmin instinct but you still need a good tool watch, Arnie is the best choice out there. Is precise, solar, though, and has electronic functions and a quick bezel for fast timing.
I love the design. This is a next buy for me. I like the Steampunk feel to it
I bought mine because it's the "same" watch Arnie wore in Commando, Raw Deal and Predator and I have wanted this watch since I was a teen in the 80s. I may another as I wear this every day.
The Arnie and Lunar Pilot are classic watches in the approximately 45mm size, although in different categories. I just don't understand the Arnie's single time zone: Casio's GA-100, among others, supports different times on the ana and digi displays.
Price 350$, yeah maybe in alternative reality but in EU Arnie cost almost 700€.
Ouch! I was surprised to see one of the newer ones on Amazon US for $300 when I was editing.
@@RelativeTime Yeah on Sakura watches is the most cheap but VAT to EU are almost 140€
@@dado380 yeah that pretty much kills any deal.
I really enjoyed the video, i doubt i ever will... the watch (and i like ana-digi watches!).
Thanks Shane, good review mate, be well. Cheers.
Hey Shane,
Where did you get that T-shirt man! I want one!
Oh and the watch review was well done also 😉👍 Thanks for putting it up. 🙂
I saw someone wearing one last fall, and had to get one. I think there are a number of online sellers with it now, but I got mine here: www.etsy.com/listing/884420673/texas-millennium-falcon-shirt
Good review man!
Can't think of a watch I've thought more times of buying, but never pulled the trigger. One day?....🤔
Can you review the seiko dark manta ray king turtle?.. they at least should’ve kept the original size of Arnie i think it was 42?
Well, actually, to be PERFECT: that second time zone display could be replaced by a countdown timer alarm. Even though, I've got me the SNJ029.
GREAT video. 👍🏼
what about the mini arnie for us smaller wrist guys?
I don't think they're making it anymore, but I'll check.
@@RelativeTime just trying too keep you on your toes...tks
Wish they made this in a 42mm. My wrist is about 6 and 3/4. Don't think I can manage that 46+.
Hi there I'm new to your channel, could you tell me where you got that brilliant canvas/leather strap you're showing on the arnie? Thanks!
Its a great 2 piece cordura from Vario. Should be a link in the description.
I have Annie H588 Original
Awesome! Still working fine?
@@RelativeTime Yes, it is working
Also ISO 6425 Diver Certified
Got mine from woot for 250$. Child dream come true!!!
These have a design flaw anytime you take them out in direct sunlight they reset themselves mine's going in the Seiko repair
This one never had that issue, but I've been hearing this more and more. Sounds like it's some odd flaw from those made in late 2023. Still trying to sort through it and figure out if anyone knows exactly whats going on.
Do you still own it Shane?
No I sold it to someone. I just wasn't wearing it.
I like your T-Shirt! ;-)
Thanks! Actually saw somebody wearing it on my cruise a few months ago and had to get one.
2:29 Good God how big are those wrists; that thing looks like a 39mm
7.25"
I'd have to wear this watch as a belt but it's nice watch, Arnaldo is a legend and Predator is cool 😎
It would better fit my ankle than my wrist.😂
Need that shirt
Not my cup of tea but loved by millions.
"it's not a Tudor."
(bad kindergarten cop reference)
That was perfect! You win the comment section!
Very much a tuna-nator styled watch.
😂
@@RelativeTime ... I'll see myself out 🙄
They gave the same watch to Jim Hopper! I like to call it the demon who makes trophies of small wrists.
Really. I'll have to go back and rewatch.
Cheers.
One question for Seiko.....
Why the fu.. dont you make a 1 for 1 reissue.
Why All watches turtles etc are on steroids???
Seems like Citizen does that as well. For some reason they think Japanese divers should be bigger these days.
And another who run for governor but failed
Which one was that? Or do you mean Ventura losing his re-election?
It won't flop because Seikophiles will buy anything that the company puts. And if the watch has been in a movie, they will be standing in. Frankly, it just not my cup of tea. You sell yours ASAP. No offense but it dwarfed your wrist.
I've already decided to sell it. I was just waiting to finish the review first
Someone s frustrated with life 😂
It's bahhhck.
😂
Complaining about a big watch when talking about the Arnie is a waste of time
made in china = a big epic flop / fail!
Made in Japan would be nice, but would it be worth 2x the price of it was?
I like the old one with the screen on top. Not a fan of the revised version.
yep. Color versions looks good or even more but the revised one is nah
Yeah, screen on the bottom is strange, plus an extra pusher.
I'm more interested in the shirt
I saw some guy on my cruise last fall wearing it, and I had to get one. There are a number of online sellers now, but this is where I got mine.

I used this watch just for walks and it only last it a year and half, very disappointed. There is a plastic under the display, it came off and now the second hand can’t rotate. Beautiful watch but not tough though
