    For anyone worried about the fines issue, adding a second washer over the knob that the air filter cover screws into stopped them from entering the intake. That's the area where they go through without the mod as its not snug enough stock.

    Have always run high test gas on my saws ,will have to read the octane on it now though ..we only have the two grades in town ..I will have to clean my filters more often so thanks for that .. especially now that I have an auto tune ..572 xp ..the 372 let’s you know but I should do it everyday anyhow when I am bucking a lot. So thanks for reminding me ..Shouldn’t have to but we all procrastinate sometimes ..anyhow have a great Christmas with your family.

    Hi Donny ... seasons greetings ... I make an adapter for the STIHL pro-series line and affix an oiled k/n filter with an outwears. Yes it does stick out but for a bucking saw it works. I undercut a groove a little wider than the hose clamp and when you tighten it down it ain’t goin nowhere. I’ve gotten over 100 tanks of fuel and NO fines are getting past into the firing chamber. I did this because I buck a lot of firewood and found that the “twist-lock” design would allow fines to get around the seal once the filter was dirty. It also seems like the “plastic finger” that holds the cartridge-style filter on wears over time and doesn’t seal as well. I used a washer to tighten it up and grease around the lip and that seemed to work however you were always doing the stop , drop,, tap , reinstall dance (and everytime u remove the filter there is a chance of debris falling into the carb) and even though you can wash the filter in hot soapy water , let dry and reinstall, there comes a time when the filter is simply spent and a new filter must be affixed. Like I said I only do this on bucking saws so having the filter on really is a non-issue. For falling saws I’ll use a max-flo oiled foam filter, seems to get about 25 tanks or so before it needs cleaning and you STIHL have a cover. On the Husqvarner I own (395xp and 572xp) I just leave the intake and filter stock - Husqvarner has an excellent (far superior to STIHL imho) air filtration operation right from the factory

      A built by Sean Pre Filter solves all of this. A faller buddy who works the west coast has been using them on his 661's and 500's for the last 6 months with great results

    • @fabzacres-blackcat
      @fabzacres-blackcat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RI-td3gv I’m sure that oiled foam element will work , however you aren’t going to get the increased air flow thru the engine like the KN with outerwears affords . More air = More torque

      @RI-td3gv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fabzacres-blackcat Like Donny said, the fallers don't really like the stack setup with the K&N or green weenies around here, they want oem or sometimes the maxflow setups with a cover

      @@RI-td3gv I can have K/N make me a filter the same size as the stock one on so a guy can STIHL use the stock cover. It’s a one off that’s gonna cost a lot more but if there’s demand ......

  • @hosocat1410
    @hosocat1410 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That's the problem with expensive, sophisticated chainsaws. The work is hard on equipment. You break it and you have an expensive piece of scrap. Not as hard to accept if it was just a cheap chainsaw.

    I have seen that there is a bloke selling the unifilter pre filter that we have in Australia in the states now, good solution.

  • @230e4
    @230e4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Maintenance! Blow out the filter and saw, wipe out the clutch drum and grease the needle bearing every day, check your fasteners and use a sharp chain. Stihl if you are watching! A lightweight saw maybe nice but not at the cost of durability and balance for someone that makes a living with a powersaw. Use it one year if your lucky and throw it away pro saws are not for me. Build an air injection system that works at least as good as Husqvarna to help keep the air filters from plugging up so fast. I hope I can keep my 461's going another 20 years or until Stihl figures it out. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Donny!

    Hi seems a bit stupid to me that a 1,500 Euro saw is not made to live and do the Jobs intended, that's why I buy Shindaiwa/Echo. The old school Stihl were engineered, what are they doing, maybe too much profit, what's with pre testing saws before selling too customer and let them have problems and spend extra. Money thank goodness for people like Donny that can help, hope Stihl and Co are listening. Thanks Donny big hello to Bucking.
