Friendly safety advice from a retired logger. Keep left hand thumb wrapped around bottom of handle. Kick backs will be strong, proper grip is very important.

I wasn’t meaning to come off as a safety Sally, lord knows I’m not. Just try to give people a little tip that might keep them from getting hurt when running a saw. Carry on…Cutting /splitting firewood makes people self reliant, independents them are the people I like to be around.

Chainsaws and sawmills always seem to be a surefire way to find metal! At least when I'm running them!! Good luck hunting this year.

Hi Scheib - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I feel your pain - It's rare that I can complete a cutting session without hitting some foreign body. I carry 6 chains with me and just swap them out when calamity strikes. You should treat yourself to a cant hook to roll those heavy logs, it will transform your workflow and save your back.

Passed about 30 elk this morning in-between the exits for Black River Falls. Any closer to town "antler king" will have commercials from their security cameras.

Nice Noodling with the 500i. Sucks when you find metal. Happens a lot when inuse the 660 for felling out in farmers fields. I would find fence wire, spikes, nails, and 1 time concrete in the tree. You were able to get it touched back up and finish out 1/4 the others. Great Job Scheib!

Cut up a huge black locust once that was at the corner of a cow pasture. Found an antique square spike 8-9 inches long probably 3/8in square. Luckily found it w splitter not saw. Had to pull the pieces apart, and there it was sticking out about 6 inches.Musta been about a foot into tree. Cheap $30 metal detector might not be bad idea .

A few extra long zip ties on the end of the handlebar measured out to the proper lanes will save you a lot of time having to mark all the logs you can literally do it and skip that step completely you might want to look at some of the Wood the wood yard videos and it’ll show you how he does that make it easier for you and save the extra step so save extra time and effort just a thought that’s the way I used to do it when I was younger

    • @OutsidewithScheib
