I was a Sheriff's deputy for almost 30 years. We were issued these guns in 357 sig, and I carried it as my duty weapon well over 10 years. One of our deputies had to use this weapon after being shot under his vest, to stop the suspect who shot him. The deputy survived, with a fatal outcome for the perpetrator. This is a great weapon. When I became eligible to retire, I was able to purchase my duty weapon from the county (In Texas you can do that). Mine has the stainless slide and my county emblem engraved on the top. It also has night sites and a Law Enforcement Case and Magazines. At the time of issue civilians could only have 10 round mags, but the Law Enforcement version had the 12 round mags (3 mags total). Of course, that's no longer the case. This is a great gun, and my everyday carry. Thanks for the video!!
I just bought a railed used LEO Sig P229 in .357sig, right here in the Great state of Texas! The officer that had it took great care of it. Looks newish. I can tell he oiled the slide before holstering it because holster wear is minimal. It was an honor buying a pistol that was used by our great officers in Texas. I also have a sig p320 in both 9mm and .357. The .357 is fully custom with Norsso slide. I can't think of a better caliber for a compact framed gun. Shame on sig for canceling all pistols in this caliber. It's their round! How do they not support it?
I also have sig Sauer sp2340, came with Laser Device inc. laser to attch it, total 4 mags and extra barrel to swap from.40sw to .357 sig. Overall one of my edc sidearm. Excellent handgun.
I always liked .357 Sig since the mid-90’s when I got to shoot my uncles off-duty carry Sig 239. He worked for the MI State Police in the transitional days from revolver to semi-auto and loved that little gun. The fact that he was a forensic and ballistic guy gives credence to the rounds capabilities compared to other bullets of that era. Compared to small carry pistols now, it’s outdated but back then it was very high tech. The .357 Sig round has a lot of benefits and one big detractor (price). Sadly, I don’t see this round making the comeback like 10mm has recently.
I really enjoy shooting .357 SIG. It has been impossible to find for the last 24 months. This particular Sig in .357 Sig is a pleasure to shoot and very accurate.
I love the .357 sig round for self defense too, I shoot underwood ammo from the handguns I have chambered in .357 sig, Your Uncle was way ahead of the times shooting .357 sig, I wish I could talk to someone like him and just listen to his stories, I enjoy talking to coroners about different bullets n their observations, I wish the ,357 sig could make a comeback, its a fast hard hitting round with a flash bang thrown in for good measure, or physc stopping abilities at times with just the loud flash bang ! Thanks for sharing that with us !
@@AmericanPatriot-cw9xe i’m sure with the newer HP bullet designs, .357 Sig performs even better than it did 30 years ago. I love Underwood for my 10mm. @@AmericanPatriot-cw9xe i have a Glock 40MOS 10mm that i absolutely love. I haven’t had a chance to use it hunting but i’d be comfortable taking shots on whitetail out to 50 yards. I put a RMR on mine to give me better accuracy at distance. If you do end up getting a 10mm, be selective on what type of ammo you use for hunting. Some of the stuff is loaded so light it’s essentially a .40 S&W. Not that .40 is weak but you got a 10mm for a reason. I’d use 180gr JHP from Underwood or Buffalo Bore ammo.
The SP 2340 came out late 1997 I bought mine in 1998. It was chambered in 357sig and 40S&W in 1999 the came out with the SP 2009 chambered in 9mm. If you notice in your video, the SIG mag is marked with both. Mine is accurate and an easy shooter, but my P220 45 is my EDC.
I'm not familiar with this model but I keep watching part of this video, It just keeps drawing me in. I had a 1st gen XD service model chamber in .357 SIG years ago wish I had kept that one. But this a really nice pistol . Thanks for reviewing this SIG.
Very interesting. I was not aware of a DA/SA polymer framed pistol by Sig. I just bought a Sig P229R. It would be nice if they offered it with a polymer frame. I would have selected that option.

You can, but first you have to swap out the barrel with a .40 cal. barrel. I have a Sig 2340 and both sets of barrels - feeds just fine in either caliber.
You can also get 2022 barrels, they are the same dimensions. I have 40 and 357sig 2340 barrels. I also have a 2022 9mm barrel. Shoots all 3 no problem, same mag and same recoil spring.
Is 9mm equal to or superior to 357 Sig? Let’s think about that for ourselves for just a moment, shall we? I get it that some people pick a side and feel the need to defend their choice, but not to the extent of regurgitating pure nonsense that they themselves were misinformed on. Some ammo manufacturers actually have loads that even surpasses the ballistics of traditional 357 magnum performance. Underwood's 357 SIG Gold Dot for example. Also because it’s a bottleneck cartridge it has the added benefit of feeding more reliably than other pistol rounds. It’s flat shooting and will punch through auto glass like it was butter. It’s literally a 9mm projectile “except” because it’s 200-300 fps faster it penetrates most barriers as well as 10mm yet doesn’t over penetrate flesh, which is welcomed to aid in avoiding collateral damage. It has a flatter trajectory that in turn makes it more accurate and potent at distance. Though the penetration is no greater than 9mm in flesh, the cavity damage is much more devastating making it more likely to stop a threat with less shots. Underwood has a 357 Sig 65g Xtreme Penetrator round that exceeds 2250+ fps out of just a 6” barrel. I don’t know of any other semiautomatic pistol caliber that has rounds capable of such velocities from a handgun. It goes straight through a 3A panel even. At those velocities normally temporary cavities tear. One of the most attractive benefits of owning a 357 Sig is the ability to convert the firearm to 40 S&W & 9mm with nothing more than a simple barrel swap. You also normally can do a 357 Sig or 9mm conversion if you own a 40 S&W firearm as well. That means you can train on whatever platform you’re most comfortable with and whatever ammo is the most affordable, and no it isn’t always 9mm. That means that you are less hindered by ammo shortages… and when you’re done training simply swap out the barrel and ammo back to 357SIG and you’re all set. Sadly on a native 9mm firearm you don’t have any option to do a conversion. I never understood what’s not to like about 357 SIG… well other than ammunition availability and cost being the only negatives I guess, but it is the better round. Keep in mind that when you compare 9mm +P or +P+ to try to achieve 357 Sig performance, 357 Sig is actually cheaper than 9mm. When I searched +P+ to get as close to 357 Sig performance as possible, it was more expensive than a standard 357 Sig JHP round. 9mm +P+ is still only 1300 fps in 124 grain. That’s 50 fps slower than the lowest end 125 grain Sig round at 1350 fps and we’re comparing +P+ 9mm ammo here. Yet the bare minimum 357 Sig performance isn’t even achievable and this is usually attempted in a platform that isn’t even recommended for +P+ or even +P at times. I say it’s best to swap to a 9mm conversion barrel when training and back to 357 Sig right before you’re all done to finish up with 357 to cut that expense down. In most cases the recoil of any superior round can be overcome with training. I do understand that some people are recoil sensitive and are more comfortable with 9mm or other lower recoiling rounds. I understand some just prefer the thought of higher capacity. I totally understand your decisions. But let’s not bash any superior round because you prematurely decided on a specific one. There’s nothing wrong with 9mm it’s awesome, but let’s be clear… it isn’t equal to 357 Sig and the few extra rounds it’s capable of holding in a magazine over 357 Sig definitely doesn’t make it the superior choice. In time I expect 357 Sig to make the comeback that 10mm has made in recent years… For myself these 357 Sig advantages make 9mm less desirable. How about for you?
I’ve come to love the 357 Sig and I own three handguns now in that caliber. It was difficult throughout the pandemic to get that round. Couldn’t find it anywhere.
