    Fantastic. I love some of the words you used: minigame, satisfying, thematic. So true. He’s super great and I’m so excited for how many things you can do with him just with Call For Backup alone!

    I’m shocked you didn’t mention he is a support hero, because he can help the team with all his player side schemes. I think he is S tier hero. I love the content, very deep and thoughtful. Also, he will get stronger with more player side schemes get introduced into the game.

      Great shout, I definitely could have mentioned he's a support hero; classifying heroes actually sounds fun, maybe that's something I could add to my rating system? I'm not convinced on S tier but I'd love to have my mind changed! Got to play him even more haha. I definitely think he has some stuff in the higher player counts and can't wait to check it out.

      I've been thinking about making a support deck with him for multiplayer. I'm thinking leadership would be the best aspect for that. Regroup Maria Hill, Mission Leader, clarity of purpose, upgrades you can throw on any voltron allies etc

      @@VillainTheoryI agree with @DescryGamingMC on the S-Tier. I think he's an S-Tier support, at least in multiplayer games. His ability to find and complete player side schemes, to set up the whole team, is really strong. He can protect his teammates with his shield, he has a built in resource generator, ready, and card draw (and can tutor Side Schemes out of his deck and discard pile). His Time Leap can pull a side scheme back into play, meaning you can trigger its completion response multiple times if you want (Call for Backup or Build Support , maybe?), he can help the team get a free flip to alter-ego to trigger AE abilities, and he has the ability to remove 1 problematic side scheme from the encounter deck permanently. But unlike other heroes who can support the team, Cable doesn't peter out in the late game. Instead, the more he helps the team, the harder he hits. In a 2-player game, by the time we flip the villain, I've probably got at least 4 side schemes in the victory display, which means Cable's events thwart for 7 and hit for 10 - way over the normal ratios for effective resources. On top of all that, he can use Weapon-X, X-Gene, and Deft Focus for his high-impact events, meaning he doesn't have to invest a ton of resources to have a strong resource generation pool. I think the biggest downside to Cable is that the gameplay follows a consistent flow, regardless of how you're building him, because he relies so heavily on the Side Schemes.

    Wonderful break down, as always VT. I rate him higher in power, I think - I don't think you gave his hero-specific events enough credit, I usually find them over-performing in the mid to late game compared to other hero cards, but he does take a while to get there (with the bonus that he supports the team when he builds, not just himself). I 100% agree about the theme, and I really love the way his existence opens up how a team of players can approach the game (in deckbuilding and gameplay).

    • @VillainTheory
      @VillainTheory  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks!
      I find the early game is by far the most dangerous, where the game can really swing out of control, which is why I rate characters that take a while to build up down. And there are characters like Ironheart and SP//dr who also take a couple of turns to really get going but far exceed his late game strength when they do. So I found it very hard to rank him any higher at the time in this format which incorporates solo play. With that said, I still think Cable is very good and has become substantially better thanks to key new cards X-Bunker and Specialized Training in particular, and will be addressing this in my X-Force Retrospective in the next few weeks!

    I’m short on finding time to play him. What few games I have tried him I’ve found him frustrating. So much so I’ve put everything on hold until I reorganize my collection. That’s some valuable housekeeping which really needs to be done. Kind of like a PSS but for me personally. Way to go Cable. Very thematic.

    1st Awesome content.
    But, you missed "touching" on "Askani'son". I think, a VERY strong part of his play strategy.
    When used well (in conjunction with 'basic defense' & "Graymalkin" to clear a previously setup SS that at your Thw or less) it will effectively allow a FREE (both he and Graymalkin will straighten) 'basic thwart stat' AND (yes AND) 'basic defense' in villain phase which if you are using "Skilled Investigator" and/or "Mission Leader" allows these to be activated earlier in the cycle (as everyone just drew at end of player phase) and grants greater planning to the group. And because you are doing a 'basic defense' (even in L or J decks), you are minimizing damage enough to just wait until "Bodyslide" comes around and a 'quick nap' is enough to keep going whilst checking in with the "Professor". It'll take leaving a SS once (and spend the resources that would have cleared it on something else) to setup and then you'll be IN-FRONT resource-wise for the rest of the game and growing EACH time you do it - because as stated, it becomes a "FREE basic thwart". If you can also clear a SS in Hero phase (you are currently ready to make this quite viable), this brings online regularly using your basic stats a total of 4 times per round for no effective ongoing ER! {Setup: Greymalkin = 3ER (you ARE doing this anyway), Askanison = 2ER} plus any stat bumps you use...Heroic Intuition, Symbiote Suit???

    • @VillainTheory
      @VillainTheory  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't remember how much I talked about Askani'son in this video but I do really like it. But I like it less than some people.
      Long story short, I don't think it's consistent in the way you describe. Except perhaps against Red Skull. Realistically it's not consistent to have two side schemes out per round - and that's what you need to ready in the villain phase AND hero phase. Sometimes, certainly, but it's not something I'll build a strategy around. The other issue is that there's only one copy of Askani'son in the deck. Getting it on Turn 1 is great, getting it on Turn 5? Not so much! And while Superpower Training can help grab it, it typically has a better target. And if you're only readying once per round, I'd rather do it in the hero phase so I can be more flexible with using my stats to solve encounter cards.
      Which is all a long way of saying I love Askani'son but I think its practical output doesn't often match its potential output. So I like it, I use it, but I think its value varies a lot turn to turn - so I don't rely on it.

    I played leadership miles with mission planning, command team and get ready plus peter parker ally and it was very fun and powerful adding that call for backup sides scheme added more consistency on finding peter parker too and the 2 sides schemes just to have mission planning.

    Man, you seem harsh on Cable. So far, I've been able to build him up fairly quickly after many games, shutting down villains before I've even cycled my deck. Maybe he just clicks with me. I do agree about Technovirus Purge being a trap, having learned that recently.

      I actually love Cable and think he's very good, there's just a lot of very powerful characters! I will say now though that, while new side schemes have helped him, X-Bunker is soooo good with him. It's definitely helped raise him up in my eyes.

    Howdy good sir. Does dominos ability combo off of “band together”
    Her ability goes off of printed wilds and I was curious if “generated” wilds from “band together” count for 6? If so, that would be a crazy broken combo for any of her cards, especially “luck be a lady”
    I know this is a cable video, but I’m not patient enough for her video

    • @VillainTheory
      @VillainTheory  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha! No worries, happy to talk Domino. Sadly the card Band Together doesn't work when discarded from her deck - it actually has no resources printed on its bottom left corner, what Domino is actually looking for, making it the worst aspect card in the game for her to discard! Her ability is looking for the resource icons already on the card.
      But it's a very cool idea.

    I actually don't think the Psionic build for Cable is that risky as long as you avoid the Psionic locked events. All the psionic allies (Psylocke, Professor X, etc) Power of the mind, Psimitar and Cable's Psionic cards all work even if he doesn't have the psionic trait. Even Telepathy and Telekinesis only require you to have the trait when you play the card so if you lose Psionic later it also doesn't matter. And since you're avoiding the events you're no worse off with Stryfe than you would be normally since your only psionic events are Cable's.

    • @VillainTheory
      @VillainTheory  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't lean into the events then I agree I think psionic is a lot safer. Psimitar is a really cool card! Great points.
