I know he's not the most fun or complex hero, but there is no better hero than Peter Parker Spiderman for teaching new people how to play the game. He teaches you some interesting interactions while being very simple, straight forward and easy to understand.
Just picked up Champions since I'm a huge X-men nerd. Fantastic video, one of the best Learn To Play videos I've ever seen.
The way everything worked out that first round with weapons runner, spider tracer, webbed up, and assault was so perfect, it almost looks like the decks were stacked lol 😂
I wish I could stack them that good
This is an awesome introduction of the rules. We played few games and were still little confused. This explained a lot.
I know to rules pretty well as I play very often. However this video is awesome. Was very concise and this is a great video for beginners and veteran players alike. Good job dude, looking forward to the next "How I Play"
Ive had this game in my collection for a year now but never came around to learn it. This was awesome! Thank you so much, thank you for the help🎉
This video is exactly what I was looking for a refresh on the nuances. This gameplay was an incredible sequence for teaching. I'd wholly recommend the next "intermediate" level of teaching gameplay for those that have a dozen games under the belt
This is great! There aren't enough how to play videos for this game, which--as you said--is still gaining players! Thanks for making this.
I have not had a lot of time to play recently, so I needed to watch a refresher video before I played again. This video was incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this. Having stepped away from the game for a while this was a great refresher!
I've watched a few tutorial videos now and I think this one is my favorite. Very detailed explanations with live gameplay are fantastic.
Haven’t touched the game since sinister motives but I kept buying everything for it and finally got around to opening and organizing all the new stuff so I could play again. Was dreading having to dive into 1.5 and figure out everything new but this was very helpful and a great refresher.
Ive been wanting to play this game with some friends and even by myself but I could never understand it. I saw a lot of videos on how to play this game but this video is probably the first that explained the rules and the steps very well. Thank you.
The way break down your moves and explanations is exactly how I wanted to. Create with my own YT channel. It’s perfection! You answer so many questions. I need you to explain gameplay of every game ever!
Thank you! I’d have been waiting for a post 1.5 how-to-play video.
This was the most helpful video Ive seen. Im about to play this game with my friends! Thank you!
Great video! I got this in a garage sale. After watching you, I can see why they didn't want it. It's not for everyone.
Nice job! Haven’t played in about a year, and this was the perfect refresher!
Just got into the game and I’m obsessed. Love your channel as well for content
Great teach. Thank you for the video. Just a tip if you were ever to do another one: you should use the tokens, HP dials and status cards that come with the game. Some new players could be confused by the fact that they don’t have the same (upgraded) components as you are using. Also, it would help in the learning process to actually see what it would look like when they are playing the game with the included components.
Dials I can kinda do ( I don’t have the original dials) but I don’t have the status cards anymore unfortunately lol
The written out "stunned" card is very useful for new players, for example. Agreed.
Great video. Finally figured out why the game felt so difficult! I appreciate the help!
Thanks for the video. I have played about 15 times now, and I still learned some things I wasn't always thinking about.
I probably have a thousand plays now. I still learn things. It can be crazy lol
@D20Woodworking yeah. I recently found online the 1.5 rules and faq on hall of heroes. And was a bit wowed by how much there. When in doubt about a rule and I don't want to look it up or can't find it, I go thematically what makes sense to me, or what helps me :-)
BEST tutorial of this game for a ," Noob"...,which, I am! Thank you.
Best how to play video for MC I've seen
Excellent explanation - the best I have seen for Marvel Champions!
Great refresher
This was terrific. Thanks for the updated rules play through!
Hello! Anyone, please chime-in!!! When using Great Responsibility 0 card, after you avoid threat and choose to take as damage, do you use the thwart value or attk value with the boost card?
Must be in hero form to use this card, I believe. So, this scheme deflect (if you will) is played when a treachery card - “Villan Schemes”
Just got into the game pretty hard myself. I havent played an LCG since OG Cyberpunk. Haha. I love deck building in these games.
Just got the game, fantastic tutorial. Thanks!
Way to go! Great video!
Can't wait to watch this!
Thanks for this refresher
Well done sir. Great intro video. I just realized ive been giving Klaw two boost cards for his SCM as well... oops 😂
Great video! I just bought Marvel Champions but have not yet opened the box. But I will tomorrow. I was looking around for a cool super hero game and decided to try this one. I stopped playing Magic the Gathering months ago. It just became too boring for my taste. So onward to some new fun!
Nice vídeo, just one not, when you check hand size at the end of player phase, if you have more cards than your size limit you would discard. Page 18 of the rules reference
I really like your channel. I want to give a little background so you don’t think I am an idiot I have been playing board games since 1965. Back when I could get a game for about $10 and they had 4 page rules. Its true. The were military simulation games from Avalon Hill. Games have advanced and I play Advanced Squad Leader. I am willing to bet nobody here has ever played it. I bring it up because is one of the most detailed and complex games out there. But yet I struggle with Marvel Champions & Lord of the Rings. Both of these are similar. I just finished my first game of Spiderman ve Rhino that I won. I am know trying Ironman vs Klaw. First game bad. Right off the bat I had two schemes and a minion out. Anyway where I have my problems with both games is the cards. I find no mater what I do I have questions about every card that comes up and then later I find out I made a mistake. I did make it through the 1st scenario of LOTR btw. I do find this a little frustrating. I do want to say I admire the designers for the amount of work they put in. I dose seem to me they could have made a beginner one time scenario were you pick any hero just the basic cards no enemies, no side schemes. Maybe Rhino as he seem pretty basic just his cards and his basics. It probably would not be very satisfying but when you play the same game you add the side schemes, then the aspects that way you get a feel for the play in a segmented fashion? I do feel its a way to get younger player into it easier.
I get it. There are times I get frustrated with the rules and honestly. I don’t think I ever play perfectly right. When you mentally get over that hurdle it just feels better.
@@D20Woodworking Thank you. I think the designers went for the details to make it feel as real of an experice for the players as possible. I admire their detail. BTW where is you your back round shot I reall like the looks of that cafe.
I wish I could play as fast as you! Lol last time I played took me 3hrs going over rules again and losing of course lol.
Haha I have a lot of plays
Thank you.
This was great! Much appreciated for a refresh! Thanks!
This is a top notch video.
Thank god for this man. The rule book is kind a confusing.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to do it.
Excellent!
Are you going to do another video for the 1.6 rules? 😉
Ha probably not since 1.6 didn't change that much
LOL...just got into this game. :)
cool video, probably the best ive watched so far for marvel
i am coming from arkham and the lotre lcg so already got a fair amount of background knowledge on how these games work, interesting to see that you prefer true solo?
i am thinking of starting out 2 handed assuming that it would open up mechanics between 2 decks like in other lcgs? or maybe i should start out true solo for a while and keep it simple
If you’re used to two handed solo I think you will handle it fine in marvel. There are not too many complicated things going on there
12:30 I tell new players they look for Hero Specific Upgrade/Support in their opening hand.
Great video! Thank you. Small thing I noticed and I could be wrong, but I thought you draw cards first then ready all cards at the end of the player phase?
Yeah technically. Shouldn’t make a difference but yes that is the proper order.
Not sure if there is already one, maybe have a video about multiple player game. e.g. how you defense for other player, and what action you can take in another player's turn.
This was so helpful!!
Awesome video and nice way to explain a lot of the rules in a dynamic way!
The only thing I’m not sure was played 100% correctly after the 1.5 rules is the boost icon of Sonic Boom around 32:30. As I understood the new rules, the damage is dealt to Spider-man even if he avoids taking it, so the character should be exhausted. I could be wrong though as I’m still not super familiar with the latest rules.
This is different from previous rulings so I don’t think new players should care too much about it if they play it as you did in the video.
Appreciate it!
So yes, this is a mistake, I would still exhaust because of deal vs take and that whole new ruling (which by the way, I hate it haha) but yes, that's a very good catch thank you for that!
Where is this explained in the 1.5 rules reference? I cannot seem to find it. Thank you. @@D20Woodworking
Page 12. Under damage. Last two bullet points. Talks about take and deal. It’s not explained very well but that’s what it is. They still need to work on take and deal in my opinion (I hate it still, I could rant forever about it haha)
I found it. Page 12 under damage. I get it now. Backflip states "when you would take any amount of damage from an attack" So you would have been dealt damage first. So you are stunned. hmmm... been playing that wrong.
Thank you. I agree they could work on it some more. Your channel is great by the way. Keep up the good work.@@D20Woodworking
Should've probably included the word UPDATED in teh title for the YT algo
39:08 why does he scheme + have another boost to the scheme. I thought his force interrupt was that when he attacks give him 1 additional boost card but this isn’t an attack.
He still gets his normal 1 boost card for scheming. He wouldn't get a second one as that's just for attack.
Thx for the video! Helped me a lot!A question please: Can I exhaust an in-play ally for resource?
You can not. Not unless the card says something along the lines of Resource: exhaust this card to gain a resource
Do you use hit point dials now d20?! lol jk haha aged perfectly. (For those who don’t know d20 is now sponsored by buy the same token and they just came out with some awesome hit point dials 😂) love ya my man I was showing this video to a friend to go over more of the rules of the game as he’s interested in playing as well.
Question though do you still prefer tokens even with the new dials out? Haha
I enjoy tokens for sure. But the new dials make things so much easier
I would like one video with 2players to see the defense with 1.5 rules and the focus in defense.i want to see in differnte situations
Excellent teach
Great video!
Those counters 🥰 Where are they from?
Great tutorial by the way! Really helped me
Buy the same token is the brand. And use code D20BTST to get 5% off your order.
Very tempted to get into this game.
Does the core set box, now contain the updated rule set?
I’ll be honest. I am not sure if they do
where did you get these token? They’re so beautiful!
Buy the same token
32:22 questions about damages
In rules 1.5 When the amount of damage a character takes is
moditied (such as by damage being prevented), the amount of damage dealt is not modified.
Is that mean spider man get stunned?
When Klaw would attack Spiderman while webbed up, does that trigger Spiderman's interrupt ability to draw a card?
It does not. Webbed up replaces the activation so klaw never activates and Spider-Man can’t interrupt it
Very basic question about Pete's ability to generate 1 resource: does it only generate for a card that I play immediately? Or does it generate, "floats in limbo", I can flip to Spidey and use that resource to pay for a hero event, for example?
You can only generate a resource to pay for something. So you can’t have a floating resource unfortunately. Wish you could though
Oh man. I've been playing it wrong then 😅
Trying to learn: I'm at about the 36 min mark. Spider man was exhausted by defending 3, but you can still play all the cards in your hand? I guess I dont understand the point of being exhausted. I get summoning Daredevil, but how could you play the Swinging Web Kick (Isn't that an attack?)
So exhausting and playing cards are two different things. Exhausting has you use one of your basic powers, generally speaking recovery, thwart, attack or defend. Then playing cards are a different action. So you can exhaust to attack and then you can also play cards to do whatever else, doesn't matter what it is. The only time these things really interact with each other is when you are stunned let's say. You can exhaust to clear the stun or use an attack card to clear the stun. That's really (early on at least) the only way they overlap.
@@D20Woodworking Oh, ok. So "Attack" is literally if you just use the character card ( Spider man in this case) to Attack for the value of the card, but you could take other actions that damage the villain that aren't considered an official "attack". Do I have it right?
Even when you are teaching the game you draw shadows… 😄
What happens now if you discard the obligation in the villain setup?
Then it is in the discard pile. That's all.
Rules 1.5? Are they printing the core game with these?
How do you get daredevil?
Can you exhaust spider man then flip him over to peter?
Yes but Peter will also be exhausted
Great teach. Can you share your sleeve brand used?
Dragon shield
@@D20WoodworkingThanks...re-watching the video and you obviously said what they were. Apologies!
all good! @@gstuartdunn
With the card (Surveillance team) can I remove 3 threats at the same time?
I've owned this game since like late 2019 early 2020 and I only played it once I couldn't remember why I didn't like it just that I didn't. After watching this video I definitely remember why, the game was incredibly competent and worked well but it just wasn't fun or thematic for me.
Great video though.
We need a video on "take damage" vs "deal damage," They should be the same but I don't know the difference even when reading the 1.5 rules.
What is the link for the tokens that you use
small note: Shouldnt obligation be shuffled after Villain setup?
Not anymore. This was updated in 1.5. so you used to do villain set up and then shuffle in obligation; they have now simplified it. Step 10 states shuffling in the obligation cards and everything else. Step 12 is villain set up now.
Hi everyone! Can someone please tell me where to get the card holding and tokens placing tray he’s using in the video? I’ve tried and I can’t find it. A link would be great!
“Buy the same token” is the company
Also let me give you an actual link: buythesametoken.com/products/spiderman-themed-hero-board-for-marvel-champions-lcg-compatible-tokens-not-included
Newbie here . This Spidey card that deals 8 Damage, looks to be a bit overpowering. Again, I might be wrong but that card alone almost took Klaw out .
Most heroes have a version of this card. 3 for 8 is pretty standard. But yes. They can be powerful so you want to use it efficiently. And welcome to the game!
are you sure you can use the card that did 8 damage without atacking at the same time with spider man?
By attacking you mean exhausting to deal the damage on spider man’s card? Yes I’m 100% sure. They are two different actions.
thank you for your reply i just got the game yesterday but seems broken to me , also says hero atack so i thoght you only can do it when you were atacking with your hero@@D20Woodworking
