@@nycstreetpoetHe wasn't at all healthy, physically. He just had a very good way of dealing with it mentally, which shone through over it. As we've come to find out, he was having weekly cancer treatments at least as far back as 2+ years ago (back when he was helping to design the Silverquill deck, he flew home at weekends to get said treatment), which never actually ever stopped. Man was a legend at keeping optimistic, and that's honestly probably what did help him survive so long even though it was really bad for so long.
beautiful to see that in the beginning, magic would never be what it is today without Sheldon, and he will be missed by the whole community, there is no doubt about it

28:38 Judge! The Professor should have taken 2 damage from Spellshock due to successfully casting Zo-Zu. Thankfully this minor misplay doesn't affect the gameplay
because it's pre 2000 old and weird worded like many cards back then. They also used "played" instead of "cast", but it is basically the same in MTG. Similar to "when creature is put into your graveyard from play" being changed into "when creature dies"
Its so great that the Proff lives in his own world of MtG related things and has no cultural touchstones past the 80's and has so many cool people from all walks of life come through and only talks with them about magic. Its truly magical

This is, by an extremely large margin, my favorite (MTG) gameplay series on TH-cam! ... The editing and effects are entertaining and un-intrusive, the games are so natural and organic, AND the personalities are so genuine. We need more of this!

I played a couple of commander games with him i believe at my local game shop (armada games). I have a commander card still in my deck that was signed by him. I always remember how cool of an experience that was for a new mtg commander player and it really cemented my love for the game.

Even if there are some people who vehemently disagree with some rules you stuck by, no one can take away the fact that you helped change the social aspect of magic with EDH, and your love of the game and sense of community surrounding Commander shone true your character regarding the "Gathering" within the game of Magic the Gathering. Thank you for all you did for this entire community! And even though it's expected/warranted, Prof, I appreciate the love and compassion you have for every single person within this community to have the vignette of remembrance for Sheldon at the beginning of the vid. There may be plenty of people in this community, creators or not, who wouldn't care to go to the "effort" of doing something like that, but you have shown all of us so many times how caring and supportive you are of every single person in and out of the entire community, and of everyone you come across in your life (assumingly, but i'm guessing i'm not wrong there!) Thanks again for all you do for everyone, Brian, and for being such a humble, fun filled, down to earth, guy, and with so many other good traits in a person. YEEEESSSSS ZO-ZU RETURNS!!! I built the Prof’s Zo-Zu deck in my infant Magic days, and I lovingly edited it and made it my own over several years… until my playgroup made me stop bringing it. It’s now become Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, and it’s much more focused on group slug and general punishment than outright land destruction. I managed to use Solphim, Fiery Emancipation, and Toralf to turn a single Lightning Bolt into 1.5 billion damage after clearing every creature off the board. One of the best Magic channels out there. I love the way Shuffle up & Play presents itself... Some of the other popular Magic channels that have games played ... don't have the camera angles, audio quality and great personalities that this one has. This is enjoyable to watch unlike the others where you're wondering what the heck is going on between their annoying banter and garbage close ups of cards on the table. Thank you.
Watching this episode and seeing them argue about how to take down prof. while he's mimicking Mr. Burns reminds me of the scene from LOTR where the council is arguing amongst themselves as the one ring turns everyone on each other.
I like Zozu the punisher. I like Torbran, i like Vial smasher the fierce, but i love Kaervek the merciless. It's basically "anytime you do a thing, take damage"

This was my first time watching a video of this series and I really enjoyed it! All guests were great and especially fun to watch some of my favorite MtG women jam some Commander
RIP Sheldon. Watched for a while now after quitting MtG standard and selling my collection. Your videos got me into Commander and the last episode with Sheldon finally tipped the scales and got me to go buy cards and start up again.

I might not still be alive if I hadn’t picked up Commander in college. Having a community that cares this much about self-expression, friendly competition, and good sportsmanship has been as important to my health and wellbeing as therapy. Maybe more so. RIP to a man who has brought a perennial source of joy and fellowship to so many.
I commit my Talion deck to him, for although it was unbeknownst to me at the time, I built that deck on that day. May he rest in the arms of the ever expanding universe. He will be missed. Thank you Sheldon for making Magic what it is today.
Came back from the clutch three times on MTG Arena lol, once 1 life vs 24 life opponent (Best game ever BTW) ... , another had 9 poison counters, barely won, and the last 1 life and dude quit at 7 life lol. got pics to show... never give up folks! I Hate that he died before I could play him in a game. Thank You Shelden Menery for bringing us commander.
I love the effects😂 hilarious. I don't like sometimes we can't see the full card 39:55. Should have really capitalized on being able to see the decks during the mills. Love shuffle up and play keep up the good work

I love the effects😂 hilarious. I don't like sometimes we can't see the full card 39:55. Should have really capitalized on being able to see the decks during the mills. Love shuffle up and play keep up the good work
