Silly winks is an EVA foam, while it has low water absorption, it will still absorb some water, and stay in between the foam and your metal surface, causing rust. Closed cell Neoprene would be better.

THANK YOU! Can’t find any gaskets for my 2009 Mazda 3 (2nd gen), so about 3 months ago I tried using Permatex Form-A-Gasket 2 (meant to get RTV silicone) on top of the old gasket. It worked and they were still removable after 2 weeks without affecting the seal, but the other day I had to remove the rear bar to fix more leaks. Tried removing the taillights, they were stuck. They eventually came off, taking half the old gasket with it. While checking the leaks yesterday I noticed the taillights have started leaking again. I’ll have to see if there’s any shop in Australia that sells these foam sheets.

And you randomly uploaded a video about it.....I've goggle everything and couldn't find out what could be causing this......thank you so much. Lol. CB7 for life! BTW I have two cb7s the one with a leaking taillight is a 91 and I have another one with over 300k miles it's a 93 10th anniversary.....from my everything I've seen it's really rare for a good 10th anniversary
About to do this on my 1998 mx-5. Literally you can find NA miata's tail light gasket for 10 bucks, but you simply cant find the gasket for a NB. Sigh. Thank you very much!

@@Jarph0821 hey, thanks for the reply. That's really good to hear. I love innovative, craftsmanly fixes that save money, when they really work. Due to the previous owner, my trunk was a rusty hell. The spare tire hold down mount just fell out on the highway. The tail lights caused it. Just got done with sheet metal, Bondo, paint, and don't want to refill the donut pool. My trunk will never be able to look as awesome as yours, but maybe it can be as dry! Seriously, your trunk is sick. Thanks again!
