Just saved my ass big time, I took a metal snow shovel to the windshield and scratched it to hell, the thing is its not my car!!! Worked beautifully. Looks better than before I tore it to hell. I just used a microfiber cloth by hand and it worked great

I had 3 long horizontal scratches in my windshield. Watched this yesterday, went out and bought Orange pumice, mixed it with rubbing compound and followed your instructions. . . Perfect! I never thought I could get those scratches out, but this technique did the job beautifully. Thank you so much!!

This really works. My driver's side window was trashed with scratches. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years when I bought the truck. A major glass repair shop quoted me $300 to replace the glass and this was not covered by my comprehensive insurance. I bought the buffer, made the high speed air nozzle, used all of the cleaning and lubricating products you recommend and buffed the glass with your special formula. The savings on that one window more than paid for everything. And now the glass is perfect. Thank you so much.

I have done this over the last ten years. your not the only one's to do this, It is very cool that you posted a video so others can do it themselves.
I can tell you this were the only ones with this mixture other people of done it with their products but nobody has ever use these two mixed together guaranteed
lol, dude, he just told you he’s done it (well, 5 years ago). You have absolutely no way of “guaranteeing” that nobody has used the same mixture and you said it yourself, you can use any polish compound and the ticket is only the pumice from the hand cleaner.. so any hand cleaner mix would be no different.

Mate, you saved me a ton of money! Did this on my Landcruiser on the weekend that had spent the last 10 years offroad in the Australian Outback. Both side-windows were finely scratched and dull all over from the fine red sand out there. You could hardly see through them against the sun ... and we have a lot of sun here. Did the polish with the exact same materials and pad and they look like new ... just $500 cheaper ;) Big thanks over to the other side of the planet !

I used fast orange on its own for years. Did an ok job, but not overly spectacular. Never thought to try and mix it with a compound. Works amazingly well. Thanks alot for sharing this

@@patrickgoldberg7915 if you wash your car you will get a clean car.;-) couldn't help it being a smart-ass, but I think I know what you're asking... if you're asking me if the scratch will reappear, the answer is no. You're not filling in the scratch. What you're actually doing is not removing the scratch, but removing some of the glass round the scratch to where it's level with the scratch... just like when you remove scratches from paint, you're not actually removing the scratches from the paint, you're just leveling the paint the same height as the depth of the scratch. This is why it takes so long to do, glass really really hard and it takes a while to polish it down to the depth of the scratch... and it is also why he uses soap with pumice along with rubbing Compound to make a homemade rubbing compound that is aggressive enough to remove glass

I definitely am so to give this a try on my 2014 Ford Fusion. It has scratches from a previous owner whose wipers obviously went bad. When I removed the old wipers, there was literally no rubber left on them.

I have been watching a bunch of videos on repairing glass scratches. Many required me to buy new expensive products (felt pad, sanding pads, specific branded glass compounds). Now I am able to go out and buy pumice cleaner and get the job done with the polishing equipment I already own. Fantastic.

I was working my head in how to get rid of those nasty scratches... my neighbour jet washed his driveway and all the sand ended... yes .. on my car, including window seals. I've managed to remove most of the sand but I can still hear it griding there. I might have to dismantle the whole door assembly to get that stuff out.... o well, at least got rid of the scratches on the passenger side. Thanks a lot mate you're a star and a true gentleman. Let me thank you ! Trying the secret sauce with just the #0000 steel wool, scrub the windshield for a while and cleaned it off and got most of water spots and some scratches off, still blows my mind! I have tried EVERYTHING and this simple sauce worked! I can't wait till I try it with the rotary and foam pad.

I know this is an older video but... it works. I had tried *everything* to get our shower cabin glass clean. Literally everything. Special glass pads. Special glass polish. Rotary, DA... to no avail. 3 minutes fooling around with this concoction (I'm assuming you add the compound for lubrification?) and I got a 20x20cm test spot crystal clear. Amazing, so thank you!

Renting and I’ve scratched the ceramic glass cooktop badly. I mean REAL scratches not just from dried cooking stuff! I’ve tried buffing, cream metal shine cleaner, toothpaste, etc. nothing works! I live in Oz and will definitely try this. Hope it works! Thank you for sharing this!

Gonna have try it. As a senior glass tech i’m always looking for cool ways to buff scratches on car glass. Usually it’s oxide powder and avoiding distortion from heat is the main culprit. 1mm deep is fairly deep scratches. Well look into it. keep up the vids, interesting. 👍

1mm is deep indeed - I was assuming the "mil" to mean one thousandth of an inch.
Greg Sullivan a couple were this deep and many were not...it does take some serious time and tools to remove any scratch from glass :)

I had a Class C motorhome with a fiberglass body that collected fine 'dirt' as it aged. I used the orange cleaner with pumice very successfully to make it sparkle. It took forever, but worked perfectly. The cleaner rinses nicely with water. A followup with cleaner/wax and Meguiars as a finale left it looking like new.

I worked with glass for the best part of 20yrs. We used jewellers rouge if that's how it's spelt. Although this works, you have to be absolutely sure the glass doesn't remain dry as this can cause more scratches to form.

Thanks for the awesome tip. My windshield doesn't have scratches, but is somewhat foggy when the light hits it a certain way. It is either pitted or has had some kind of overspray on it. I tought for headlights use a turtle wax all metal polish...
you can use the turtle wax metal polish for headlights and another great one is the mothers mag and aluminum polish. thanks for the great comments and thanks for being here with us :)

Got to try this! The previous owner of my 66 Caprice acid etched every freaking window with ivy,flowers etc. It's $1500 for new glass!
My windshield has thousands of little tiny chips in it, it looks like it was driven through a sandstorm or something. I’m going to give this a try and see if it can at least reduce the glare created by these tiny chips in combination with all the faint surface scratches that seem to never go away no matter how much I clean it.

This is great! I have a wiper scratch that pervious owner thought it a good idea to keep running the wipers after they broke. I don't mind putting in the work so this seems like a far better alternative to a complete windshield replacement

Hey I found your video here and thank you so much! My son borrowed my rig and scratched the windshield, while trying to remove some ice with pants and the zipper caught the glass (Kids always cost you no matter what age). We used your formula consisting of some F1 and the same pumice filled hand cleaner and his real good elbow grease and the formula got the scratches out. Voila it looks new again! For Aussie viewers, the pumice liquid soap brand shown here is not available in local stores BUT you can buy "Solvol" liquid soap or Solvol bar soap (both use pumice as the main abrasive). I would use a mortar and pestle to grind the soap down and mix it in with the cutting compound. Failing that, you can buy pumice stone which can easily be broken down, first by smashing inside a towel using a mallet and then applying some elbow grease with a mortar and pestle.
The other recipe I will share with SPC is that you can buy Cerium Oxide and mix it into cutting compound and it will do the same thing. Cerium Oxide is what the optics makers use to grind lenses and glaziers use to polish rounded edges on glass table tops and the like.

No problem. Give the Cerium Oxide a try. You can get it cheaply on Ebay. Just moisten it slightly with a bit of water (reduces friction heat) and then mix it in with a bit of cutting compound...enough to make a slurry. When using the buffing tool just back off every couple of minutes so as not to overheat the glass. I'd love to see you do a video with the result. If I was in the US I'd even send some Cerium Oxide to you gratis but the cost of postage between Australia and the US is often more than the cost of the goods being sent!

Gotta give this a try. I scratched up my Mustang window thinking I could scrape frost with an empty coffee cup that was still hot. Oooops. I was able to manually buff them out a bit, but your method will get them all out. Much thanks.

All plate glass for store fronts had to be polished during manufacturing in the old days and needless to say the glass was very expensive.
Window cleaners use pumice alot to get water stains ect off the glass good tip tho as always..
Tried this on my 74 MGB. Worked well. Not speedy by any means, but the best solution I've seen so far.

Hi, went to look for the white pad you mention but think you misspoke. You say 3M 05732 but think you meant 05723. The 05732 is a red pad. Just pointing that out in case someone else is trying to find the right pad. Great video as always!

SWEET PROJECT CARS here...for this method to work you need to use the same exact tools as we are using, this goes for most all our videos, they are method and tool specific.. ..you will need a (Single Action Buffer) that turns at a minimum of 3000 RPMs and you need the same exact pads we use. This works great for most all scratches but if yours are deeper than a human hair you will be buffing for some time and we mean hours. Hope this helps
Went out today & bought a 6" 90° buffer, a flat cutting & polishing pads. Not pitted like yours. Does this matter? Same products as well

I tried this method today , i used gojo , and i a rubbing compound called lazer that apparently is german made... I mixed as you said 75% gojo and 25% rubbing compound , i couldnt find the same 3m pad so i used a hard pad that i was able to find( that is flat and doesnt have the same surface as yours ) , after more than an hour of hard work , i saw that the scratches were 50 fadded from 1/6 of the surface of the entire windshield .keep in mind that my windshield is all scatched up becauae of sand that i was on it and using the whippers ,( stupid i know). Yes but dont you think it too too much time ? I noticed my pad is twice as thick as your's do you think its could be the reason it took that much ?
the pad we use is a very important factor in this process, so yes that maybe the problem...but i would say just keep doing it it will get better if thats the only pad you have. :)
Also a thinner pad is generally going to be more aggressive. If you think about it it's kind of like the sidewall of a tire, smaller sidewall is going to be harsher and a taller is going to be softer. As the pad's moving across the surface the thinner pad is not going to flex as much, it will be cutting more. I've made a few mistakes and that's how I know.
Btw this is the same technique is used to polish camera lenses. But I don't know much about their rubbing compounds. I never thought it could be used for car's windshield. Thanks for the trick!

Right on. SO much easier than the way I did it in the old days ' 63 '. I used to polish Petosky Stones by hand using Pumice & Found it was great for Glass also. I may have had to work harder but made good money for a 14 yr. old kid. TYVM for bringing me UP TO DATE with u'r improved method. ALOHA. P.S. 20 bucks for 2-3 hrs. work was good in those days for a windshield.

Great video as always, I say this, I'm always sceptical but most of the things on this channel work. If it just polishes enough to be invisible who cares? It gets the effect and that's what matters. Great job guys, you just saved someone a Glass replacement.
I work for a reputable auto glass company and I would have to say I'm sceptical. I will give it a try, but all of the glass polishing compounds I've seen will only work to a certain extent. I almost guarantee this will not work on deep scratches. Maybe it will work on glass rubs as I have seen some polish do. But after a point the glass is going to distort in the area you are polishing from the heat of the abrasive. This is a fact! Again I'm very sceptical.
Well we always say if you’re skeptical try the process yourself then you’ll have a real reason to be skeptical or not have a great day

WORKS!!! I only tried it with the fast orange with pumice and it worked worked it in with a drill with the attachments got em at Walmart for like 6.50 window on my car was really hazy and you could see the scratches now al 'll gone thanks!!!
Thanks for the video. I had similar scratches on my windshield as you did in your video. My truck is 10 years old and I believe has the original windshield. I do not have a buffer so I used very fine steel wool and a "lot" of elbow grease. Should have bought a buffer. The windshield looks great now.

I have a 2017.5 Nissan Altima SR midnight edition. I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the amount of scratches that are on the windshield. I've had many cars in my lifetime but have never seen so many scratches. If you're like me it absolutely frustrates you.The car is super black with a super black interior it matters aren't even worse. I've been looking for a way to get rid of the scratches and have not done anything yet because I did not want to cause any harm to the windshield. From the comments that I've read and from what you have shown this is definitely a doable thing. I will definitely give it a try
I took a look at the video on my tablet which gives better resolution then over my cellular phone. You can definitely see the scratches. That's exactly how my car is. I believe it's from going through the automatic car wash many times and which I try to keep my car extremely clean. The facility I go to it's called Mr Mister car wash. The facility is brand new including all the equipment inside, but that doesn't change the matter that it can scratch your vehicle up. It doesn't matter what type of car wash you go to this can happen. I noticed there's a few specks on my windshield that look almost like tiny little chat rocks may have hit the windshield but nothing permanent or will get worse since they were checked out by 2 professional windshield shops. It's your like me you're very anal about how your vehicle looks. I know this must sound like I'm being over-the-top about it however it's an investment and just like your house you want to make sure it looks good at all times when possible. The car was actually delivered to the dealership in Tulsa Oklahoma the only miles it had on it was the miles it had from which it was pulled off and then taking to be serviced for readiness. It now has just slightly over 20,000 miles with a year-and-a-half under the belt. The only thing that is concerning to me is the ability to keep up the cosmetics. If anybody has any recommendations as far as how to get the car ready for rewax please feel free to make comments. I've had some estimates of around $200 just for the exterior wood seems to be about right. Of course it will be done by a professional. as far as I know they only made the midnight Edition for the Altima for 2017 and 1/2 and 2018 model. The major difference is the suspension system is exclusive for the midnight Edition and which it uses a sport suspension system. You cannot find this on any of the other Altimas unless I read all the information incorrectly from the manufacturer. @@saifulimpul6042 I don't recall how many swirls I did by hand, but I was at it for about 5-10 mins by the time I had saw the change. The scratchy haze started to fade and kept going for another 10 minutes and it was finally clear. It was remarkable. Have at it and do it yourself.

I have all ways used wax on my windows. Like the front windshield. When it rains it don't stick to the window. It runs off

This works.
I had a super deep gouge from a worn wiper. I'm talking maybe a quarter of a mm, maybe more.
I leveled out about 150-200mm either side starting with 80grit down to 3000 (actually kicked it off with a diamond dry disc at 200grit. When I was pretty even I did a few rounds of cerium oxide, but it wouldn't feather in at all. Some cheap handsoap and cutting compound and instant results. Still a lot of work to take out the pigtails and whatnot from the abrasive discs, but it does work.
In theory I probanly would have been smarter to replace my windshield (two days work on it), but I thought I'd just try it and see. My other vehicle has a few light scratches, so I'll do that one next and bring it up like new.

If all you have are water stains, Mothers aluminum polish and a wool buffer pad will do the trick quickly. My windows on my Silverado 4 door were badly stained with hard water spots. Rubbing compound wouldn’t touch them, but the Mothers and orbital buffer did the job in about 45 minutes , all 4 windows.

Well you can give it a try it sounds like your windshield is not doing very well it will either work or you’ll end up replacing the glass it all depends on how bad it’s pitted or scratched thanks for asking

I got the same rubbing compound and fast orange pumice and mixed in the prescribed ratio 25 to 75 percent. I used a harbor freight polisher and orange 8-inch pad. Have a lot of swirl marks and the scratches are still there. The material seems to soak up into the pad fairly quickly and I have to reload the material. I was hopefully this would work and will update as I give it another try tomorrow.
Gerald you have to use a lot of the mixture until the pad is saturated especially if you are using a dry brand new pad....and it takes alot of high speed polishing as seen in the video it is not a quick process thats for sure we thank you very much for the quality comment it is very helpful for the whole channel :)

Wow! Pumice soap? Never heard of it. Listen to this guy folks be patient and don't get frustrated as it takes time and don't be like the hulk with the buffer. G3 compound would be good to get those scratches off,although would G4 afterward help as glass is more sensitive? I'm very good with a buffer over the years but never tried this.Save money on a new windscreen and hassle on an MOT failure.These videos always impress me.

Aside from the Pumice solution, is it really necessary to use the exact same pads you used? As I am in the middle east, where there is always sand storm and people drive like the ones you hear in the background, the choices are severely limited.

Sweet Project Cars I took the scratches out. I ended up using plain old mortons table salt. I didn't have anything with pumice. The salt is strong enough to polish but won't damage the windshield.

I'm glad I came across this video! I don't have any scratches, but my windshield has a bunch of tiny pits as if it was sand blasted. It shows up when it is super clean... I'm going to try this and see if I can restore the windshield.
