Media needs to ignore it or they have no content to get people emotionally invested and actually have to think to break down games. Once LeBron retires they're going to pick some other kid a few years later and hype him up constantly. It's why there's such a big push every year on some new lottery pick. They need a poster boy to sell merchandise, get clicks, views and be relevant

@@alexejcrescini263 I think a common drive home through traffic can show us that not everyone engages in using their intellectual mind as a tool for accomplishing even the most routine goals.
But Jordan used his mind, in addition to his body, to improve his game, especially in his later years. Whereas I’ve seen plenty of professional players who don’t seem to have their head in the game as strategically as Jordan did.

It's an accurate assessment of the reality of professional sports. You can really only compare players against the players they competed against and under the conditions of the time. Maybe the best way to make this clear is in track and field. I'm pretty sure that there are hundreds of living runners who can beat Jesse Owen's times--are they all greater runners than he was? Or maybe this makes it even clearer. Probably any physics professor knows more about gravity than Einstein did. He came up with the theories, but everyone since has built upon his discoveries. But I doubt any of them thinks they're better physicists than Einstein. I actually think Jordan is being sincere here, and I think Woods would feel similarly. These guys both knew they were building on the accomplishments of the past great players. I mean they know the game better than anyone, and they know they didn't invent it all. They respect the history. That's my guess.

just think logically here for a sec. the interest in basketball nowadays is a lot higher nowadays than it was back then (MJ played a huge part in that), that means that more kids grow up playing basketball, which leads to more talent. now add to that that training methods are more advanced than they were back then and you have to come to the conclusion that overall the talent level in the NBA goes up every single season.
now if you wouldve understood what MJ was saying you wouldnt have written such an idiotic comment: MJ couldnt do shit about his competition, neither can Bill Russel and neither can lebron, also its not Russels fault that trainingmethods back then were not good to say the least. if you would let MJ play in todays NBA with the training he did in the 90s he wouldnt be nearly as good, because the competition is just better now. but again, thats not MJs fault, he can only be the best in his era.

True, but I hope his tone changes. Seen it with both Pele and Maradonna when Messi stepped on a football pitch. Thing is that with Messi, they started blubbering 2nd, 3rd season in, which is when a ones in a generation talent shows that he's a step above. Which means, no one in BB can challenge him atm and I'm guessing he knows it... Strange since he wasn't that special at 16 from interviews I've seen. Imagine if he was dribbling a bb from young age... Who knows. Maybe other sports opened up his mind...

Hard to say, Muhammad Ali once said Tyson could be him and he WAS A BIG TRASH TALKER, and Tyson once said Ali, and Sonny Liston could beat em. They have respect for each other, and that's even OFF camera.
Jordan had matured since his last interview 10 or so years ago; and I'm sure with Kobe's death in perspective may have also inspired this answer. I believe Greatest of their Times (GOTE) is more appropriate.
      Bill and Wilt (60s)
      Kareem (70s)
      Magic and Bird (80s)
      Jordan (90s)
      Kobe (00s)
      [Honorable mention Tim duncan)
      Lebron (2010s)
THey all played in different eras, vs different players, new teams, new challenges... same reason why Monica Seles can't be properly judged due to her stabbing, and how Serena Williams and Stephie Graf have different eras as well to which their comparisons are unfair.
Even again, Look at Smash Bros. (video games)
ZeRo has 60+ tournament wins in Smash 4.... World record
But MKLeo the young kid from Mexico had won 12/14 S-tier events with his worse placing being 2nd place for the other 2... throughout 2019...
With that said, you can't say ZeRo's feat was more impressive, because we have more people playing the game.
That Evo MKLeo won had 3000+ people, not a single Smash 4 tourney had those numbers, or players + veterans at that level.
So the point still stands...you can't compare everything like Jordan said.

MJ is right about evolving the game. My other assessment of greatness in sports is how did you fare against your peers. You can't do hypotheticals with other eras because we have no way of knowing what Wilt would be like with better rest and travel and nutrition or LeBron without the benefit of modern recovery and rules and equipment. Yall make the mistake of taking a guy from their era and just putting them as they exist against guys without offsetting the handicap. And I'm sorry, but that's a flawed way of debating anything. In basketball MJ was the most dominant player of the modern era, period. Six Finals, six wins, six MVPs. Thats unassailable.
