THIS IS WHY PEOPLE both IN and OUTSIDE of the world of pro sports RESPECT Jordan. No matter the degree of arrogance needed to push himself to such heights, when it came down to the sport itself, he understood that everything he has built is predicated on the brilliance of those before him. Each with their own contribution that can never be replicated as the greats are all singular entities. Jordan gets this and when someone with his authority states it, you take notice 11:11
"...when it came down to the sport itself, he understood that everything he has built is predicated on the brilliance of..." *Phil Jackson* ! I bet Lebron wish he was as lucky as Jordan and Duncan ---to have a GOAT head coach who is the REAL reason you are winning championships.

There are so many takeaways from this video. One thing that consistently goes over too many people's head is how articulate MJ is. Some of the AAU bread NBA players who talk like they sign their name in crayola. They're juvenile. There are so many interviews MJ's done and he put that education from NC to great use by demonstrating how to be a great communicator in front of a crowd. Now, to be specific about this interview is how MJ never makes it about him and the focus is always about the reason why you suit up in the NBA - the Finals. Winning the finals. Nothing else matters but winning the finals. Everything else is auxiliary.
All the accomplishments he mentioned as most important were team accomplishments. He has always been a team player despite what some people say. Great interview, shows respect to teammates and the competition, present and past. True GOAT.
Great find. The God MJ giving lessons on what the NBA and being a champion are all about. The fact that he made the game saving BLOCK also says it all, in a game where he didn't play well. The reporters were better then as well. lol. Actual good questions.
Mj's the greatest player of all-time but please stop the blasphemy, even if it is to jokingly emphasise a point. There is only 1 GOD and HE'S not human...
Cause now agents control NBA media. NFL has more players and more sources but NBA with Klutch - if you are in the media you almost HAVE to say LeBron is the top player or number 2 because you will get black balled otherwise. The people in the media who say “LeBron goat” are paid by him to say it. Many of them are represented by Klutch sports too. Shanon Sharp and Nick Wrong fall into this category of people. They give really good logical spots takes - until they talk about LeBron. Then it’s twisting in pretzels to discredit Jordan with absolutely absurd arguments. A guy that built super teams and team hopped constantly is better than someone who accomplished way more with WAY less help? It’s crazy. You add KD and LeBron together and you have Jordan with zero three peats and needing super teams to get there.
"We didn't have a beautiful game tonight." That's a Phil Jackson quote if I've ever heard one. The guy was just different. He saw a polished basketball game as something legitimately beautiful, on the level of a great work of art or something. The guy was an absolutely incredible coach.
Never been a GOAT debate! You have the Greatest of One's Era. 1960's, the 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's that have never played each other and never will play each other! The game of basketball was different than it is now! It's way softer! There are no forearm/hand checking, down the lane elbows to the head. There are greatest at their positions! However, there is NO DEBATE when it comes to Jordan vs Lebron or anyone else! Jordan is special! Lebron is an Ambassador! There is no comparison between the two! ABSOLUTELY ZERO! Jordan was a killer! I remember Bulls sports gear that was sold in Chicago that spring '96 with the printed words: "Don't mean a thing without the ring." Didn't see it again after the summer.
One thing I just realized is that Jordan played with two HOFers on that team who are best known for their defensive prowess. As you see a lot of these superteams, they are based on scorers and not defense.
All 10 regular season losses hurt. It almost felt like the Bulls were bored and could beat anybody any night. It felt like the Bulls wanted the teams to challenge them, and let other teams stay close.
He even managed to tell the media to piss off in a really nice way haha - This whole interview proves the difference between him and everyone else ….his mindset was so different and 1000% focused on the right thing - The Team and what it can achieve , not him
Please. This GOAT talk is a millennial and genZ topic. In the 90s we didn't even have those debates. We just enjoyed those who were making history! We were in the moment knowing we were witnessing greatness. We weren't haters like this generation. I remember being a diehard Laker fan. And when the Bulls started winning, I was like dang, they're just better. I never was like, well what about so and so from years ago! They aren't better than THAT other team! Nah we didn't do that . We congratulated who was doing the best at that time and accepted it! That's something this generation knows nothing about. Simply giving credit where credit is due. That's FOREIGN to this generation of fans.
I remember how classy NBA players and coaches looked, it really stood out against our local professional sports leagues. Now they’ve lost a lot of class, players look,Ike trashy billboards for gauche fashion garbage or bums before and after games
They way they wore suit like it's business. Today they go to games and make a fool out of themselves on what they wear. Makes iverson look like a sunday school kid
As a big Bulls fan all the way back to 1987, I feel the thing that stung the most about the Warriors' breaking their record was that the Bulls' last three losses were each by 1 point. A little more luck and they put the single-season win record out of reach.
Their record doesn't count. The purpose of the regular season is for the playoffs. They shot their wad in the regular season and went to two seven game series.
@@philagon The record is the record, but not winning the title pretty much disqualifies the 2016 Warriors as the greatest team of all time. Now the 2017 Warriors, on the other hand...
@@mrmacross I disagree. Records must be contextualized for their real meaning to be understood. For instance, one could claim that $40,000 is just more than $30,000. But what if the 40k was today and the 30k was in 1970? Anyone with sense would admit that 30k in 1970 made more than 40k today. Numbers never mean anything on their own.
Nope! Actually elevated this team much more cause it reminded everyone that you can win whatever but if you don’t win a championship then it will be remembered as a failures. This team is and will always be the standard which all other teams will be measured!
87-13 was the Bulls final record with the ring. 3 losses in the playoffs. Swept the Heat, lost 1 to the Knicks, swept Shaq, Penny and the Magic, lost 2 in the finals to the Super Sonics.

MJ cared more about the team accomplishment! It just so happened that he needed to put up great numbers to achieve those team accomplishments! GOAT doing GOAT thangs!💯 #NoDebate #TrueGOAT
Jordan was one of the few or the only player of my era in the NBA to this day that could compartmentalize his season achievements without losing focus of the one thing he obsessed over which was to win a championship the only other two guys but in different sport's where Derek Jeter which was great but I couldn't stand because he was Yankee😂😂 and another guy I couldn't stand either 😂😂but admired of course Tom Brady.
i just hope that one day, a post-interview reporter will ask LeBron about the GOAT thing and hear what he has to say (or probably his wife said at the ESPYs 2023)
Just listen to MJ how he answered all the media's questions. He was so intelligent, very articulated with all his, speech and language with how he answered. He was was very professional compared to the players today. They (players today) unarticulated than educated. Sorry but not sorry, just pure observation.
Just the way Jordan conducted himself during the entire interview was class act. He didn't give the media attitude saying next question like some of these current players like to do Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving come to mind. Even in a loss he would discuss the things they did wrong and how he felt they could fix those in the following game. You can be competitive and still have class and respect. Somewhere along the way. We lost that as a society and it's really sad. On the side note. Did you all catch Jordan say "I want my $5 Vin". Side bet before the game 😂.
There is SUCH a big difference in the quality of the interviews that stars gave back in the day. Now they just bitch about being criticized all day and hold eternal grudges against everybody in the media that every said anything they didn't like.
Turned out the Bulls have three (3) games remaining after clinching win 70. They could have won 73 like the 2015-16 Warriors. An article showed up "MJ the GOAT" was so upset losing to the Reggie Miller-less Pacers in Bulls' last home/regular season game. That loss involved Jordan. Tied game. He fouled Eddie Johnson with 0.5 left. Johnson split his FTs. That should fueled Jordan entering the Playoffs. "72-10 don't mean a thing without a ring" worked for the Bulls. The Warriors (plus one win) should have that reminder as well.
Compared to an interview with a response "at the end of the day, it's just basketball..." That statement in itself removes the other guy from the goat debate.
70 is good but we wanna look back at this after we've won the championship! Pure winner 🏆 The pundits get paid to bring up a nonsensical debate about who's the best.. Jordan admitted in a interview he dosent want the goat name , so calling him that shows you don’t respect MJ … Jordan competed against plumbers and mailmen , go back and look at some more games they were barely guarding him .. todays league is far more talented and athletic , if Jordan is the goat why he couldn’t get to the finals before pippen came ?
Pretty sure more then his state celebrated y’all just be lying
before pippen came. jordan led the bulls in scoring, rebounds and steals. their second best player only scored 10 points a game. but jordan shows clutchness early on. lebron is more often than not chokes.
@@Asapfortune you must be thinking about bill Russell when the nba wasn’t big and people said they were playing against plumbers and mailman because the talent and toughness was way more difficult in Jordan’s time rules were different as well that made it harder. Yes players today are more skilled because of the evolution of the game with training and technology in how players are developed but 90s basketball and 2000 basketball talent was not that far off from today. I don’t understand why people keep saying he didn’t win before pippen this isn’t an individual sport every champion had a second star or even a 3. Lebron didn’t win by himself
Yeah we got 70, whoopty dooo. Don't mean a thang if we ain't got that rang. Goat talk! 🐐💪🏾💯
the level of maturity MJ displayed in this interview is amazing! ..it's insane to hear how he was put on the spot about this memorable moment, and then he didn't shy away from his response...MJ ranked his most memorable accomplishments in a way that is unheard of, especially hearing him say that winning #70 was at the bottom of his list...MJ displayed an enormous amount of humility....these are the intangibles that unfortunately LeBron still hasn't mastered after 20+ seasons...
Winning 70 is probably lower now that he also won 3 more rings.
He is in his thirties here so it’s to be expected

As an aside to the point of his quote-- there is a video where he talks about his hands and how they're like his paint brushes (not sure how accurate my description is but it was something to that effect). It was cool to see the way he also views the beauty of basketball and there was even a video on youtube that I came across several years back that highlighted the way he moves through the air and his ball control. I think it was titled something like the elegance of MJ. Reeeeeallly wish I could that video. Jordan really highlighted a lot of beauty of the game in SO many ways.👏

Jordan already admitted, without Phil --he would have never won any rings.
Heck, he even retired when the Bulls' owner told him that he refuses to bring Phil back, as coach. lol
And in The Last Dance documentary, Jordan said he was angry at the Bulls when they hired Phil ---because Phil took the ball out of his hands. lol. You don't say????
So, does that translate into ---once Jordan realized he is forced TO SHARE THE LIMELIGHT is when the Bulls finally won championships?

I think a lot of guys go out of their way speak as if theyre uneducated because they feel like its cooler to that.
All the accomplishments he mentioned as most important were team accomplishments. He has always been a team player despite what some people say. Great interview, shows respect to teammates and the competition, present and past. True GOAT.
He is a team player, he demanded excellence to all of his teammates.
MJ had 5.3 APG, Scottie had 5.2 APG. MJ literally was the team player ...
Great find. The God MJ giving lessons on what the NBA and being a champion are all about. The fact that he made the game saving BLOCK also says it all, in a game where he didn't play well. The reporters were better then as well. lol. Actual good questions.

Jordan’s greatness is reflected in how hard he worked.
His era’s greatness is reflected in how hard Jordan worked.
"We didn't have a beautiful game tonight." That's a Phil Jackson quote if I've ever heard one. The guy was just different. He saw a polished basketball game as something legitimately beautiful, on the level of a great work of art or something. The guy was an absolutely incredible coach.

As a big Bulls fan all the way back to 1987, I feel the thing that stung the most about the Warriors' breaking their record was that the Bulls' last three losses were each by 1 point. A little more luck and they put the single-season win record out of reach.
It don't mean a thing without the ring. I'm sure the 2016 Warriors would exchange their 73-9 record for the championship that year.
Their record doesn't count. The purpose of the regular season is for the playoffs. They shot their wad in the regular season and went to two seven game series.
IIRC most of their losses were when MJ had a sub-par game (for him) and no-one else stepped up.

Just listen to MJ how he answered all the media's questions. He was so intelligent, very articulated with all his, speech and language with how he answered. He was was very professional compared to the players today. They (players today) unarticulated than educated. Sorry but not sorry, just pure observation.
Why is answering the questions so intelligent and articulate because it's MJ. Would say that about Larry Bird or Chris Mullin?
Just the way Jordan conducted himself during the entire interview was class act. He didn't give the media attitude saying next question like some of these current players like to do Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving come to mind. Even in a loss he would discuss the things they did wrong and how he felt they could fix those in the following game. You can be competitive and still have class and respect. Somewhere along the way. Mj's interviews are underrated.
