  • Are you still confused about what parts require a tune and what dont? Well lets talk about it! Many parts are coming out daily for the 2022-2023 Subaru WRX and its hard to keep track. We have a lot of new owners and it can be difficult to figure out what part you can buy and safely run. We have intakes, diverter valve, jpipes, headers. Lots of different parts can go on your car but not all are safe to run with a tune! Join me as we figure out what 2022 WRX parts require a tune and what dont! We have parts from Perrin, ETS, Grimmspeed, IAG. Lots of great manufacturures are building parts for the 2022 WRX and im here for it!

with the K&N, I advise removing the mesh insert in the box. Subaru puts it there for emissions ratings, removing it will not cause you to throw a light or fail emissions, it will add a tad more flow to compliment the K&N and will also give you slightly better sounds. For the BOV, another thing to consider is that the turbos are super low, and in snow/ice, you create a pack in failure point that could conceivably allow water in small quantities in. For the CAI, the MAF housing seems to be the largest factor. Either way you will be less restrictive with better flow, meaning a tune should be done...that being said, it seems the Perrin runs the least lean of all the brands available today...you will run lean on any CAI without a tune, if you plan to tune shortly after...just wait. if you do not plan to tune and want to gamble, follow the damn data and get the Perrin or whatever CAI runs least lean in current testing on stock tunes. For diverter valve, the primary benefit is really just eliminating the risk of boost leaks as your wrx already has a diverter, just inferior materials. This leads me to my final point. Looking at all of these airflow mods, I want to challenge all of you to look at videos of installs. Take notice at the mounting points and how convoluted they are. For instance, keeping parts of the corrugated tubing for a CAI, or keeping needless restrictive sections in the charge pipe. The connections to the turbo and intercooler could be streamlined and simplified. The stuff that is out now is honestly good, but from an engineering standpoint, they left a lot of room for improvement. What you want is as straight a pipe as possible with the least aggressive turns as possible. Silicone sleeves over the metal clip adaptors etc. Until they fix all that shit, just know you are buying an inferior part to what will be available in the market shortly in manufacturers know whats good for them. There is already divergence in the CAI for exactly what i am talking about...one of them will fix it and thats the one you should buy.

I would not recommend a BOV for any MAF car. Even with tuning, from what I have always heard from many tuners (and my own experience with Turbo MAF cars) is you cannot properly tune for a BOV with a MAF. The MAF always expects the air to return to its system. Without that you get a rich condition. Now, if the car does not use a MAF and only runs on a MAP(My VT and my FoST were like this, or you switch run to speed density). Go wild. I really wish Subaru would have just went MAP. But if people are looking for that sound, the Intake will give that sound.

    • @DarkWolfWRX

in my 2016 i did the same thing on day 1...but rip out that BS mesh, it is there for emissions ratings and wont fail any emissions test without it. all it actually does is restrict flow and removing it while adding the K&N will give you a tad better audio from the intake.
