- My HP ThinClient T620 has been used as a media player at home for quite a while. I decided to give it an upgrade, especially on hard drive. After opened the tool-free case, and found both internal hard drive and RAM is so easy to be replaced.
First is to remove side access panel.
Second step is to move the metal case latch from right to left so you can slide the top metal case down a bit then lift it up to remove it, as shown in the video.
Third step is to remove metal plate cover for RAM. There is a empty RAM slot to add another memory module which maximum 4GB.
Forth step is to replace internal SanDisk SSD U110 M.2 2242 16GB hard drive. HP P/N: 727240-001. SDSA6MM-016G-1006 is MPN. You can easily found SDSA6MM-032G-1006 or SDSA6MM-064G-1006.

Do you use the internal USB flash drive ports, and/or do you know if these have to be a special type? Or does any ordinary USB stick work? Or would they get too hot?
I have not got a chance to try internal usb port. But it should be standard type and I wont think it will get too hot.
I just bought an HP T620 plus, you have any issues accessing the bios? I've hit every key combination but no luck. Any thoughts? Wired USB keyboard and monitor plugged in. Just boots to W7 embedded.

@@barryallen1831 I figured it out. I was using a gaming keyboard. Once I switched to a standard keyboard I could access the BIOS

You can search "M.2 2242 SSD" and should be able to find similar one as I used in the video.

hey, quick question - is that a second M2 slot on the mobo of the device i spotted? Can you install 2 drives on this machine?
Sorry, EscurKo, I am not sure if there is second M2 slot. Are you sure?
the other slot is a mPCIe slot, not a M.2 slot
Older versions of this board have an m2 slot, mpci slot and msata slot. The msara slot is desoldered on the newer boards.You can kind of see where the msata slot was in this video above the cpu
@@splnut5338 www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/hp/t620/mods.shtml on the newer boards you should be able to solder them on. Never tried it on mine, just swapped the m2 msata for a bigger one and the rest is on the NAS ;-)
does ssd m2 2280 can fit inside there? just saw from the video there is screw hole for different size

1st of all Great Video. Really appreciate on this. I have few queries here. Actually I will be buying this system and befor that need to clear out some doubts.
1. Its confirmed that 8 GB is supported hence wont be issue. I can Install the Windows 7 64 bit too. Only concern about GPU . My main purpose will be working in Photoshop Cs6 pretty old though. Will that I can work on that .?
And As you shown that M.2 port is there and MSata is also there so Is MSata is bit less costly? for an example 16 Gb will be there for Boot device . cant I connect a MSata on there ? Both would be working ....
no, Photoshop CS6 probably is too much for this little machine.

You can use a external USB enclosure to connect your old hdd.
apparently some early versions have a secondary msata interface. does yours?

128gb should not be a problem. I do not the capacity limitation. But 128 GB definitely will be fine.

What screw did you use for mounting the ssd?
sorry I dont know the size of screw. I used the one coming with it. I only did a replacement of SSD.
My M.2 SSD is not detected, Transcend MTE110s. Do you have a list for compatibility check?
no, I do not have. Check other comments to find out which one is working.

A typical m.2 sata (2242, 2260, 2280) interface compatible ssd will be fine. but not nvme type.

I am using Sandisk U110 M.2 2242 type. But based on what I read at www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/hp/t620/, 2260, 2280 also will be fine.
I am using a Sandisk x400 M.2 2280 with 128 Gb. It works well!

Hi Ryan, no difference at all. The windows only can see 4G even it is 64b version. .
I was wrong. It can accept more than 4GB. I got my T620 8GB RAM working. Previously, I added one defect 4GB Ram into second slot. That is causing problem for my Win10 only found 4G RAM to use. But performance wise, no big difference.

Can u help I want install windows 7 or 10 my hp thinclinte t628 but on hard disk not on ssd or m2 flash and remove m2 flash from the machine and use on Hardisk is it possible
You might want to try a USB3 enclosure with HDD to install WIn7 or Win10. But the speed for HDD reading and writing is not that fast.

yes, it can take larger msata driver.

Yes, you can install win10 64b, but it is not good at all to play game. GPU and CPU are so weak on this machine.

Ram Type: 4-16GB DDR3L 1600 MHz
SSD Type: 16-64GB MLC mSATA SSD
the ram type is laptop type. its not the long thin ones you see for desktop computers.
the ssd is the mSATA type not nvme type. The long type of m.2 cards are popular nowadays but its the smaller one you need for this pc.
But you know the m.2 long ones im using right now 256gb in my hp thin client t620

@Govind Rahi, if I understand you correctly from Google Translate, you are asking how much I paid for memory and hard drive. I picked up 4GB RAM from second hand market at price $20 Canadian dollars. For hard drive, I bought a new 120G from Amazon at price about $30 Canadian dollars.
Can it support bigger M.2 2242 SSD such as 256gb?
M.2 is having different interface from mSATA. So, it won't, but it might be able to support it using a converter.

May I know what's the maximum Ram you can install on this? It looks like there's only 1 memory slot, am I correct?
I installed 16gb, but with it's weak apu it still runs like crap. That's why you can pick these things up so cheap. I'm going to clean up the thermal and install a fan.

I am not sure if you can but the graphic card is very weak. I doubt graphic quality will meet your requirement even you managed to install it.
does anyone know how to install windows on this? i tried windows 7 with dvd and usb and it didnt work and windows 10 with usb couldnt find the drive to install it.

I doubt it can be upgraded for normal IT person. It might be for some experts who has equipment to do this kind of job. The effort is not worth replacing CPU.

Hello, I have the same model of thin client. I purchased 2 8GB Ram modules. I opened the client and was able to successfully replace the old 4GB module with one of the 8GB module. I tried to put the second module into the DIMM2 socket, however the clips were not long enough to reach into the ram module notches. I find this really strange. It is like the DIMM2 socket requires a different type of ram module. Have you heard of such a issue?
Hi Furliebe, based on my machine, both DIMM1 and DIMM2 are using same memory modules. It must be something else blocked you to install your DIMM2 memory module. Do you have a picture to show your problem?

Ordered one of these dirt cheap off ebay. ($20 looks like theres plenty more too) No power cord (I havent plenty of hp cords) no ram (I have ddr3 sodimms just hanging around) and no ssd of which maybe I have one im not sure... Went by HPs specs for the ssd. I have a 16gb msata ssd laying around and I noticed the one you pulled was m.2. Makes me think HP doesnt even know what they have in their machines... Guess we'll see when it gets here shortly.
