You should have more subs because this is good work for repurpose equipment not that we are in covid. Keep up the good work bro.

    Intersting. I'm using one of these as an opnsense firewall and it ran out of memory yesterday when enabling Suricata (intrusion detection), most likely due to memory issues. I have only 4 GB currently.

    • @ArtofServer
      @ArtofServer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to use Suricata seriously, you probably want a more powerful box with more RAM. Consider the T730 instead.

    I just bought a t620 & 2 of the Micron memory sticks you referenced (they were HARD to find at a reasonable price). I saw your unit HAD a VGA port; I'm not certain if the one I bought does. It may have 2 'displayports'. It also may have some serial-looking port that allegedly can be configured as a VGA port, but after hours of scouring the 'Net, I find no data on that. Appreciated.

    i'd be curious on whether the storage can be upgraded to more than 64gb. My t620 plus is Rev B and doesn't have the MSATA slot, so I have no choice but to use the M.2 slot for storage. I've seen guys use a 2.5" drives inside, but not sure how they connect those....I imagine using some adapter to MSATA.

    • @ArtofServer
      @ArtofServer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the M.2 slot is SATA-3 I believe. so my guess is that typical SATA-3 limitations apply here. I don't think 64GB is going to be a problem.

  • @snoman6322
    @snoman6322 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What's your opinion on this or t730 for opnsense? Or a dell optiplex? I'm torn which one to get. Want to be able to have enough power for service expansions within opnsense in future.

    • @ArtofServer
      @ArtofServer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't used opnsense in a while, and have never ran it in production environment, so it's hard to say specifically for that application. But from a hardware perspective, I prefer the T620 Plus over the T730 for 1Gbps routing/firewall. The T620 Plus has more than enough compute power to do 1Gbps firewall/routing near line speed, and it has much less power consumption than the T730.

      @@ArtofServer I got a T730 and used it for a while, but then I realized it was running at something like 30 or 40 watts. I ended up replacing with a Dell Wyse 5070 Extended. Perhaps a T620 Plus would've been a better initial choice.

    Gday from Oz, Why is it reporting as SINGLE CHANNEL?? instead of Dual Channel?? on mine i have 1 x 4gb and 1 x 2gb and reports 6gb @ single channel. is there several bios update stage to get up to the latest version of firmware like u have? i am on L40 V02.05 and there is no option in the bios under file in the menu saying "Flash system rom"... got any ideas there?

    Thank you for the video. I been thinking about buying the T620 thin model I have done the research and have put a side all the upgrades need it to get this puppy up to speed. I can install all this stuff in 5 minutes. But that is as far as I go... so it brings me to my stupid question /limitations..... once I upgrade the SSD to a 128GB I WILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO UPGRADE TO windows 10. Should I keep the original 16gb SSD on the main port and just add the 128gb one on the other port and have the appearing system give the option to upgrade to windows 10 is that even possible... if it is I AM RUNNING BLING AS A BAT . What do I do next . Thanks

      sorry, i know very little about Windows. if you're needing more storage in this machine, I would definitely replace the 16GB SSD. It's in a M.2 SATA (not PCIe) slot, and there are several large capacity options for that.

    @12:47 = cores 1-active/ 1-total ? RAM: 666MHz (ddr3-1333)
    This AMD GX-420CA, is it not a 2.0GHz Quad-core?

    The picture say StateL Running - Test #3 at 41%, did it complete all test?

    • @ArtofServer
      @ArtofServer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      take a closer look at that screenshot. PASS: 1, means it passed all tests and the 41% is the 2nd pass... memtest86+ will keep running until you stop it.
      also, memtest86+ has some issues running on this AMD processor, so I had to force it into single threaded mode to work. That's why you see "SMP Disabled" on the screenshot, and why 1-active/1-total. But yes, in Linux, it has a quad core GX-420CA, and yes 1600 MT/s as seen earlier in the video.
