    Shoutout Gil for mentioning Kobe’s ability to change his shot pocket. Another one of the little things that separates Kobe from other greats.

      Kobe essentially cocked it from the hip to keep it away from the defender and initiated his jump shot that way too. He became unguardable at that point. Kobe was insane @_@

      TMac and Vince too. When TMac and Vince used they full talents and didn't relax certain games they were nasty all over the court when they got mad or aggressive. They start stealing and blocking everything jump out the gym to make a block Lol. Great swatters on defense if they didn't turn it off but I think they were just tired of jumping a lot on offense then jump on defense. Stamina goes down.

    What Gil said is what I’ve been trying to teach my high school players. Right handed shooters normally are better shooters going left. So if you’re guarding a shooter, we live with the drive. If he’s aggressive to the basket, force left and live with the shot. If he’s one of those ONES, then good luck lol

    • @ggsimmonds1
      @ggsimmonds1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100%. I had a deep bag going left but the only move I had going right was a little behind the back slam on the breaks move that I could shoot from at a lower percentage or I used it to work my way to the left. I was an under 6 ft shifty but not explosive white boy so you wanted me trying to finish at the rim instead of doing shenanigans on the perimeter

    Gil lowkey just put me on game. I hoop very casually (didn’t even bother to try out for high school) and I’m lefty. I always drive left and can never get my shot up for the exact reason he said. It’s hard to dribble then pull up to shoot with that same hand. I gotta start driving right!

    • @davidelsea1296
      @davidelsea1296 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I consider myself able to use both hands but I am dominate left hand and shoot left handed and I broke my arm when I was younger and spent the whole time using my right so it naturally made me want to drive and dribble dominately with my right hand and it all just came natural to me after that. People try to sit on my right hand and then I just have an open lane with my left which its just a nightmare for them.

    This was a snippet on breaking down the game of basketball. All made valuable points on studying the game and the individuals who you face. I don’t know the study habits of the players in the league today but players like Gil, KMart and learned from those b4 them. As they spoke about Kobe, you can understand Kobe studied and worked on every aspect of his game so he had no weaknesses. The Mamba had excellent footwork (he trained with soccer players), could shoot with either hand and he could go left or right. Kobe also studied his opponents as well so he knew how to defend them. He knew their strengths, their weaknesses and their tendencies. Kobe was a true student of the game and a true savant.

    The scouting reports worked however they don't move the needle the way an elite or talented player does. In the NBA level, every little bit matters. Just look at Kobe Bryant, in addition to the amount of work he puts into the gym he also uses scouting reports all the time. There's so many wild stories of him knowing odd tendencies of every player, arena, ref, etc.. As Norris Cole said, you aren't necessarily making Kobe score less, you're making Kobe less efficient. And when you get to the conference finals or finals, the scouting report could determine the outcome of the game.

    Gilbert is talking like he was a good defender, and he wasn´t detailed, he was a good scorer. The problem with those players like Giannis, Luka and others mentioned (that Gilbert discredit so blatantly), is that even if you know where he is going when he is frustrated, to have the ability in an instant (on the court, on game) to connect your brain with your own body parts and react on time is not possible, usually is too late or not well executed and the guy got a foul.
    I always remember when Kobe and Jordan were on court, and they were talking about the body movements and feet angles, that´s a level of detailed, like Rodman talking about the way the fingers in a certain play help the ball move and he checked the way it rotates to guess the direction after the ball touch the backboard or the rim, he prefer to see the way his teammates shoot to have an idea and be in the best position to get the rebound.
    The same goes to defense, Joe Dumars, Byron Scott, Jordan, Pippen, Kobe, this people of that level of DEFENSE DEATILED could tell you stuff like that, but they know some people or movements are even beyond their best capabilities, experience or speed to counter and move on time. Alan Iverson crossed Jordan on the first season they played against each other just to put an example.
