To see Kenyon battling much larger sized players on the boards was amazing. Juwann Howard was throwing elbows and Kenyon Martin was fighting right threw them. That brother truly had the heart of a lion. And i know I played ball and was at the game to watch one of my high school rivals Rod Strickland. Side note: one of my friends was friends with one of Kenyon Martin's close high school friends and got to hang out with Kenyon in Texas. He told me that he was a humble cool dude..❤

I so get what Kenyan is talking about. It has a lot to do with where you were raised. I was born and raised in Chicago in 67' and that was the rule where I came from. You don't let someone steal on you first. I ended up joining the Navy in 87'. For one thing I grew up on the Southside where there were I had no white classmates or white people living in my neighborhood. Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in this country. So when I made it to the fleet in the Navy I was not aware that when these white guys were yelling and walking up in your face that that didn't mean they didn't want to fight and were just looking for a shoving match. I took off before I learned that was their intention. By the time I did learn they had learned you don't walk up in my face like that. I had never been a bully in my life it was just as Martin stated that in my youth their actions was considered a threat that had to be immediately neutralized. To wait to see what was going to happen was not an option. For a time I was the youngest male in my family of a brother, older cousins and uncles back in Chicago. They made sure I was aware of the rules of the streets and that I would not be afraid to defend myself or get punked. They did this by soapboxing and body punching lessons growing up often against my will meaning they gave my no choice in the matter. I loved them but at the time hated when they did it. As I grew older in that city I learned how valuable a lesson they taught me. I learned to stand up to bullies, take up for my sister's and anyone who I considered my friend at the time.

I so get what Kenyan is talking about. It has a lot to do with where you were raised. I was born and raised in Chicago in 67' and that was the rule where I came from. You don't let someone steal on you first. I ended up joining the Navy in 87'. For one thing I grew up on the Southside where there were I had no white classmates or white people living in my neighborhood. Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in this country. So when I made it to the fleet in the Navy I was not aware that when these white guys were yelling and walking up in your face that that didn't mean they didn't want to fight and were just looking for a shoving match. I took off before I learned that was their intention. By the time I did learn they had learned you don't walk up in my face like that. I had never been a bully in my life it was just as Martin stated that in my youth their actions was considered a threat that had to be immediately neutralized. To wait to see what was going to happen was not an option.
For a time I was the youngest male in my family of a brother, older cousins and uncles back in Chicago. They made sure I was aware of the rules of the streets and that I would not be afraid to defend myself or get punked. They did this by soapboxing and body punching lessons growing up often against my will meaning they gave my no choice in the matter. I loved them but at the time hated when they did it. As I grew older in that city I learned how valuable a lesson they taught me. I learned to stand up to bullies, take up for my sister's and anyone who I considered my friend at the time.
