  • A beginner 30 minute chair exercise class designed for seniors or beginners wanting the option of chair exercises. Suitable for anyone looking to get back into fitness. Ideal for seniors, older adults, those with mobility issues, or beginners. Water bottles or food cans can be used for weights if needed.

    Have been doing your exercises about a month as close to 7 days a week as possible. Yesterday I noticed I now just pop up out of my chair after so many sit to stands! That was not the case a few weeks ago!!!!! Thanks you so much for your youtube exercises!!!!

      Hello Jules, the same thing happens to me, my legs feel strong, and a year ago I couldn't get up from the chair, or at least with difficulty, I even walk better!!

    I know that some people are not happy with you talking. I love it. I have a nephew who is blind, and I am encouraging him to try your programs. He is wheelchair bound suffering from Ataxia and is only in his mid 30's. I let you talk without being bothered because I know what exercise is next and I just start so I can do extra reps. It is so important that you talk to encourage people who have unbelievable challenges in their life that many people have no idea how hard their life is!

      Hey it’s lovely to meet you! I’m actually mostly blind myself. I’ve been scouring TH-cam for accessible audio workouts and my goodness they are not easy to find. I also use a wheelchair but I can stand with a walker for five minutes. So I’m trying to adapt as much audio cues and instructions as possible. It’s so hard when someone says “and then lift your arm like this“ and you don’t understand what they’re supposed to be doing lol. If you find any other easy but fun workouts, or perhaps even some accessible dances, feel free to reply! Cheers :-)

      @@ImprovedHealth hey there! I am visually impaired as well. I’m only 25, but I have to use a walker and a wheelchair. Have you made any progress with this?
      I’m very slow on my exercise because I like to do between 10-20 slow repetitions of each exercise. I’m slowly getting stronger but I get out of breath quickly so I need a little breaks.
      I would love to find more audio based exercises and even dances! With fun popular music. You can say stuff like, now step to the right, step to the left, go back to the middle, slide back, hop forward two times, leave your hands from right the left, pretend you’re swimming to the left, pretend you’re swimming to the right, flip your hair right/left, put a hand on your hip, shrug your shoulder, etc.

    I have been rotating some of the classes this week and the cardio ones definitely make me sweat! I need to sit in chair or use chair as support while standing but I am able to do with some light weights. I also did the one to work on balance. I hope that I can stay motivated and continue with these because I think they can be helpful with my mobility and strength! Thanks for these exercises!

    Still doing your exercises as many times a week as I can. I am now keeping a ball squeezed between my knees during many of the exercises to increase the workout.

    I go to an exercise program once a week at a nearby community centre. I'm the youngest there (age 37) since everyone else is either late thirties or middle aged to senior. I love doing your workouts.

    We did this one for the first time, today. Not as many steps on my step count, but a great workout, nonetheless. Upper body, especially!! Plenty of opportunities for stretching muscles all throughout. Good workout, as always, Jules! Thanks!!!! We appreciate you so much!!

    I have knee replacements so cannot do many floor excersises or running/jumping. So I do stationary biking, but these movements are great on off days for upper body, especially. Good, solid program. Thanks!

    I enjoyed this workout, after my hip being mad at me yesterday for some reason, I wasn't sure how I'd fit in some kind of movement/exercise today. Then this video popped up, it was just what I needed and my hip didn't yell at me once, haha. Thanks!

    Question for you Jules: I am an 80-year-old guy and love the challenge of this. Is every other way about right for this routine no matter what else one is doing?

To see the most benefits, my suggestion is to pick different workouts throughout the week since each workout is slightly different and you'll target different muscles.     Love these seated exercise routines. I have one question for anyone monitoring the comments. I cannot point my toes due to severe damage to my feet in an auto accident. What can I do to instead?

      Hi Iris, it's Jules here. I read all of the comments on my channel. Don't worry about not being able to point your toes. Just do a heel tap or do the best with what you can do. You're moving and being physically active and doing the workout to the best of your abilities, which is great. You'll still definitely benefit from the workout whether you do a toe or heel tap:)

    I started this work out in May 2024 and could barely do 10 minutes. It's now end of August 2024 and I work out to this video twice back to back for a total of 60 minutes. I definitely feel and look better. My energy level has really improved. Thank you for sharing this work out on TH-cam.

Every time I tried to start working out again I would have to stop because it was too much stress on my back. Your chair workout has been perfect.     Hi Jules. Love your programs which I use with my fellow residents in my retirement village and present at a Day Centre for Seniors, many with early dementia. (I like your Dementia videos especially for this group). I have a problem at the Day Centre though - the equipment available does not include WiFi and it's a bit of a problem having to take my laptop, dongle, speakers, cords etc with me. Is it possible to get your videos on CDs or even in a form that I can download onto a memory stick? Happy to pay for these of course.
    I'm 83yrs, I live in Sydney, Australia. I started doing You Tube exercise videos when we were first locked down with Covid - and I've never gone back to my previous exercise classes. Many friends in my village were in the same situation so we get together to do your programs now - doing it together is more motivating.

      I totally agree with you but it's very complicated trying to find music that is allowed to be used. I recently created one with popular oldies and it got blocked due to copyright laws. I would use popular oldies all the time if I could.

      I wish I had turned the music down in this one. Editing has been an ongoing learning process and dealing with the music and sound, is always challenging. Once the video is up, I can't edit the sound level.

      I agree, this one I messed up the music and had it louder than I intended:( My other videos have music that is softer, or no music at all. I tend to put music in most of them (at a quieter level) to help drown out the sound of my feet on the floor.

    I work as a caregiver and my seniors can't sit in a chair but they do sit in arm chair or couch. They love this workout but , a slower paced on in an arm chair would be amazing for them. Do you have such a video?

      It can be normal to feel a little bit of soreness if you're new to certain exercises but hopefully it doesn't last long. If you ever feel it's too much when you're doing it, you can do a little bit less with the reps until you get used to the workouts:)

    Just a question. I am a senior women and no other way to say it but I have a saggy butt. Is it possible to sit and firm up the muscle there. Please let me know

      You can put your hands at the sides of your chair to support you, lift your glutes and squeeze/flex your glutes for several seconds, sit back down and repeat. If you're able to stand, you can also do sit-to-stands which will help to strengthen your legs and glutes.     I would like this class better if she started off with a full body warm up. Just going straight into arm exercise after arm exercise is not feeling very good on my arms. It's way too much work on the same arm muscles for far too long. This does not seem like its for beginners. Some stretching and balancing would be nice too. I feel like there is not enough core involvement. This seems like all arm and leg work. I'll keep searching for a more rounded beginners class.

    I really liked this! I have MS which affects my legs so the leg part is difficult, but it did get my heart rate up which is rare for me Since I can’t move fast!

    Hi Jules, while I've been doing stretching it feels like I will turn into Jello if I don't start moving again! So I did this one and it really felt good to use some of my muscles again. I can't believe how tired I've become in just the few days I havent exercised.       I know what you mean...I feel the same way if I haven't been able to exercise. The gentle seated workouts will also work well if your doctor thinks you need to have more rest. The gentle ones are more about working on range of motion and getting in some light exercise. I hope today went well.

    I just started the 30 minute 5 day chair workouts for seniors , I’m 61 and have back problems, and breathing issues , this is great for me. I just finished day 2 , but only see it up to day 5 for the chair exercises, will you have more of them later. I do them from my tv and go to my phone to comment. Would love to continue them after day 5 is done.

      Welcome to my channel, Barbara! Just so you know, I create 3 levels of workouts (gentle, beginner and intermediate and both seated and standing). I categorize the workouts into playlists on the channel as well as on my website (www.improvedhealthforseniors.com). I actually have lots of seated workouts in the playlists so you'll likely find lots more which would be suitable. The gentle workouts are designed mostly for range of motion, flexibility with some strength & minimal cardio. The beginner ones are a step up with more cardio and strength exercises. The intermediate workouts likely have too much movement for your back so you might want to stick with the beginner level workouts. I also create gentle standing workouts which should be fine for your back and breathing since they are designed to be gentle movements. After you get through more of the workouts, let me know if you feel something is missing:)

      @@niknik3366 All of the cardio workouts (especially the intermediate level) will help to burn calories (which includes helping tummy fat). You could also incorporate the seated core workouts daily which will help to tighten up the abdominal area.

      Just to help you navigate the channel, I create 3 levels of workouts (gentle, beginner and intermediate) in both seated and standing workouts, and categorize them all into the playlists. Just look for 'playlists' on the main page and scroll down to where you see the seated options.       I now upload all new seated workouts to the new channel.
      Lastly, I upload all of the workouts from both channels to my website at www.improvedhealthforseniors.com
