- The cross banded molding on this 300 year old George 1st walnut chest of drawers was badly repaired with old pine and plaster.
The old repairs we estimate were done 150 to 200 years ago with some very old nails piercing into the repairs.
The chest may have fallen of a old wooden cart onto it corner and the local farmer just banged and glued some old pine to strips and blocks to make it useable again.
Follow along as we restore this beautiful old chest back to her former glory.
There is a playlist so you can follow each step as we proceed.

passionnant ¡ excellent travail
Another fantastic job, inspect the piece uncover other repairs and be really patient leads to the result you achieved. Well done. 🇦🇺👴🏻
Makes you wonder why all that cross banding even needed to be repaired in the past? Your work is very impressive. It’s a pleasure to watch and learn.
The crossbanding animal glue would have dried up over the years and pieces fall off get lost. Someone a long time ago who purely only seen the chest as a useable object with little value just decided it would be faster to just remove what was left and nail a piece of pine molding in place and stain color it in to match. thx for watching
Looking real good 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
