This might be one of my personal favorite projects... but let me know what you thought! And try out Opera for free :) opr.as/Opera-browser-modernmakeovers
Welcome back, Andy. I was so psyched to see you're putting out a new video. What a beautiful piece you created! I always look forward to seeing your videos. It's very fascinating.
That looks elegant and sophisticated. I'm content to see that you're using reclaimed wood as well. How long does it take you to complete a project like this?
Nice one ! I'll never get used to bare LEDs though, maybe some kind of frosted plexiglass to hide it and diffuse the light ? No idea ... Great build as always anyhow, the painting of the holes to have everything black really made me smile, details, details, always ! ( but no trick this time, I was really paying attention to try and not be tricked by the magazine cover lol, maybe next time ! )
You've definitely had an effect on the way I think about reusing old, broken things. The broken shelf cube in my garage was going to be thrown away as it was no longer usable. But I realized that there was still good wood there, so I broke it down and cut out the usable parts. With some brackets and carpet scraps, the broken shelf became climbing wall platforms for my spoiled cat. Way cheaper than buying cat shelves outright and something got reused.
I walk around the neighborhood a lot, and seeing the old furniture just thrown out in the rain... I now look and think what could someone like Modern Makeovers do with something like this? I definitely don't look at old, "broken" things the same way.
You created a cool cabinet and did a great job. But tbh: in this case I would have appreciated to see this piece restored to its former glory. The art deco detail was too beautiful to be ripped out.
@@PrincessAndMonkey Yes the editing is creative, I especially liked the one-touch finish remover.....I also like the bicep view during the scraping , someone has been making some gains at the gym.........
Anytime I start to question, Andy always adds, "trust the process." He really knows his viewers. And you know what? He was absolutely right, because this was incredible. At the final reveal I audibly said, "Yooooooo!"
I cried when he sawed out the art deco insert, and forwarded to the end. Great work, but not what I was wanting :-(. He's a genius, though, and this would be my first disappointment after about 50 videos.
YES!!!! When he first showed the piece in the before the wood detailing on the glass was my favorite part. The end result was fine, but this could've been a real show stopper. Missed opportunity for sure.
As an autist, your attention to detail in every aspect of your videos(focus, sounds, transitions...):and cabinet restoration is just very satisfying and soothing to my brain. Thank you 💕
I loved that drawer veneer - the only thing I'm sad you couldn't really appreciate with the black stain! But totally understand the reasoning behind the color choice. Amazing work as always 👏
Although I like what you did with this for the most part, it's sad that the beautiful veneer on the drawers couldn't have been brought out in some way.
Your creative imagination is beyond genius. I could have looked at the starter piece for a year and never come up with that idea!! Also, you're the only content creater I've seen who does a split screen on the advert. Brilliant. Hope it doesn't adversely effect your revenue. Also, top notch production value!! Always look forward to everything you do!!
Between your amazing, creative furniture skills, your excellent editing and your subtle sense of humor, yours are definitely my favorite restoration videos. Thanks for the wonderful content!

Longue vie à tous vos projets et félicitations pour ces magnifiques créations, vous êtes un “maître d’art”. Une canadienne qui suit vos vidéos depuis Cuenca en Équateur
I did love how you transformed the piece, but did not really like that it was black. I do understand the why of it, but just my preference is not so dark. 😊❤
THANK YOU FOR NOT STOPPING 🎉YOUR VIDEO OR YOUR Sponsors add, Cause I listen to the ad and didn't fast forward through your video. Like I do with the most people. I was still able to watch what you were doing and listen to your sponsor.🎉👍
Have I ever mentioned how much I enjoy watching you work?? It's great Lol. I'm glad we were on the same page about sanding down the veneer on the handles and the too many clashing wood colors over all.
I think I’m the only one who didn’t get on board when you said trust the process…I was like, he’s still doing stuff I’m not loving. 😂 But that is totally fine. Your work is amazing & I appreciate everything you put into it. I enjoy all of your videos. Your creativity & wit are what bring me back to them…they are art in of themselves. 🦋
I was definitely sad to see so many unique and charming elements eliminated. I love your videos, but it would be fun to see you embrace the original style of the pieces, or leave these gems for someone who wants those features and find things without character to begin with.
Such a gorgeous, chic piece. I'm certain that with your talents and some wood toner, you could've come up with a balanced finish that let that bookmatched grain shine evenly with the rest of the piece. It was already complicated enough with those doors, though, and you have a schedule to keep; it still turned out stunning. Great work! 🖤
The sound you made when your fingers poked through the duck sock made me jump out of my skin! I had my headphones on and it really startled me. The cabinet looks beautiful Andy, well done 👏🏻
I'll be brutally honest - not keen on the door choice, it makes it look like a jail cell for wine bottles; I'm a much bigger fan of the original glass door + decoration look. I love the striking black and the sleeker handles, though, it looks beautiful with the LED lights bringing out the warm wood of the interior. Great job, even if my tastes are different to yours!
Great video! Sometimes, it hurts my soul to watch you take apart pieces you're working on. However, it seems that you know because you say, "trust the process". I love watching all of the creative pieces you make. Thank you for sharing your videos. 🎉
Andy! We missed you. Good to see, looking...blonde? Love it. When the black stain went on I thought, 'That's VERY dark...' 'Trust the process.' You know us so well. 😂 And of course, another beautiful, respectful modern makeover. Every time you deliver beautiful craftsmanship and editing. Your videos are a salve . ❤
I don't really have any vices to speak of. However, I am addicted to watching your submissions Andy. This arrived just in time as I was developing shakes like a little jelly 😀
I just watched a year old video of yours and wanted to suggest playing with an equalizer for your more "annoying" machines! Like a low-pass filter (makes it sound like it's coming form another room) or other stuff like that. I love how you can tell that you enjoyed editing these. Great work! Now, ill watch the video 😅

The combination of the black stain/dark wood, the vertical slat cabinet doors, and the legs give this piece a really cool modern Japanese feel to it, well done!
I have this really beautiful curved sideboard that I've had for decades. I bought it from a good Sam in the 90s. I wish I had your skill to fix it. It's so rough but it's such an elegant piece.
Awesome aesthetic ❤ My personal opinion is that I would’ve loved it even more if the lighting was recessed or hidden/diffused. But that’s just me. Always enjoy all your restorations!

I agree 100%!!
Me too!
agreed, or even a fusion. it would have been cool to feature the burled wood grain against the black painted parts.
Came here to say the same thing
Yes! That door was the personality of the piece. The new piece looks nice though, and total props for the refurbishing!
I love it. With the warm color lighting, it reminds me of those old, cast iron, wood-burning stoves. But way more elegant.
Right, I can picture an old cast iron wood burning stove in my room😊
I come for the relaxing reno vibes and stay for the excellent editing ideas.

Well said! Only one word came to me….incredible….you filled in the rest perfectly!
Incredible remodel of the 1940's cabinet. I was a little sad to see art deco door insert not make the cut, but it kinda had to go for the update.
Me too. I thought surely when he started staining it black that he was going to do a snazzy color combo to keep the veneer work. But sadly no.😢
I cried when he sawed out the art deco insert, and forwarded to the end. Great work, but not what I was wanting :-(. He's a genius, though, and this would be my first disappointment after about 50 videos.

@@VioletJoy True. He has worked such miracles though.
i really like the simetric veneer in the drawer and the wood detail in front of the glass door. they were worth saving.

YES!!!! When he first showed the piece in the before the wood detailing on the glass was my favorite part. The end result was fine, but this could've been a real show stopper. Missed opportunity for sure.
Absolutely. The veneer on the drawer face was my favorite part of the piece. Was so upset when he covered it with black stain.
