@@nancyanneberg403 I am glad that this video on the restoration of the old special chest attracted your attention and was satisfactory. If you watch my channel, I restored a 500-year-old antique chest of our ancestors, which I suggest you watch. This chest was sent to me by one of my channel subscribers after seeing it to restore because they are both made of the same style of wood and with the same wood.
I'm glad you enjoyed watching this video. Sometimes apart from the age of the furniture, it is fun to challenge and I try to share my experience with you with my skills.
Excellent! I met a guy at a barn sale who bought an old desk. He removed some drawers, doors, and pull out components and left the desk. He was doing a restoration and needed wood from the time period of the desk. Always great to see such dedication and workmanship.
I feel like I've see this before.... WAIT! You did restore another chest like this many months ago! Wow, what are the chances that two such cabinets survived for so long! Clearly they were made by the same craftsman; so many similarities. Nice restoration!
After I posted the video of the first box, one of my fellow citizens watched it and later sent me a similar box for restoration, although it was very damaged even though it was a little old.
Hello my Polish friend. Yes, being patient in the restoration profession is one of the basic principles because you are dealing with very bad dirt and damage and sometimes it becomes a big challenge.
Hard to say how old it is. This type of chest is known since around 600 years but build and used over very long times. Very old pieces are hard to get because tey were used till they are completely dead. I would guess it is made around 1700 and 1800 because of the wooden nails and the smooth surfaces.. But only a dendrochronological test could bring the truth. But they are expensive. In this condition it is worth around 250 - 350 €. Maybe more if you find a crazy collector. BTW: for the next cleaning you only need hot water with a shot of ammonia spirit and clear water to neutralize after cleaning. And for the finish only linseed oil. 😊
Thank you for all your useful and correct information. I am very happy to have people like you in my channel who can help all friends and people interested in this restoration profession. I'm glad you're here
