Bravo! ❤
Thank you sir, I learn something new about restoration, in every video.
👍🏼⭐️ thanks for sharing.
A weekend gift 🎁! Thank you once again for sharing your experience. Much appreciated. 🇦🇺👴🏻
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 as usual your attention to detail is awesome 🤩
The decorative elements featured on the front edges are more accurately referred to as “pilasters,” translated “false columns.” You do excellent work, and it’s a pleasure to watch you doing it. (I don’t know how you use paint stripper barefoot! It burns my skin where ever it touches it. I’m impressed.)
What a beautiful piece of furniture!!
Your unintended sound effects sound ghostly. Love the chest.
a sriff bristled scrub brush would work great on the detailed and column pieces.
You can do it that way as well but i find all that does is clog the brush up with lead paint and stripper or flick paint stripper everywhere
I like the car sounds it makes the video unique and it sounds kewl
Such a gorgeous piece! So glad you got it and Iyou are going to restore it's glory! Looking forward to your next video....
I think I'm going to love your channel! Love restoration, even more so when its Australian 😊 And who knew they were called hat and glove drawers😲
Lead paint? Gloves? Face mask!!!!! Beautiful chest though
Old Paint usually contains lead i don't use a mask in a well ventilated area and im careful when i don't use the gloves. thx for watching
Очень затянутое видео. Зачем 34 мин. показывать как удаляют краску со старинного предмета?
As a Russian, I support repression. Repression against those bloggers who teach aesthetically unstable people to paint furniture pink and light blue. Or is it better to ban the sale of such paints altogether? You did a lot of dirty work cleaning this chest of drawers. My respect. A little more pleasant work and this chest of drawers will shine in its original beauty. My like for your video.
lovely piece, will enjoy watching you work your majic
I am a kiwi living in Chicago and I have a chest almost identical in every way to this one - could have been made by the same craftsman. Even has the secret drawer releases for the top two drawers, same feather banding around the top and all the drawers. It is so exciting to see you work on this piece! If it helps, mine originally had tear drop pulls - you can see where the original holes are patched.
Just started following you on you tube. Very interesting, hard work. I enjoyed your video very much! I am glad I found you.
Welcome aboard!
Lovely piece. I can't believe you're using all these harsh chemicals without gloves!
Даже на открытом пространстве следует защищать органы дыхания респиратором ! И кожу рук длинными перчатками .
Amazing work
Thanks a lot 😊
Really nice work. Looking forward to following it. So where did they put their socks & undies then? 😂
In the glove drawers :)
I loved the outside! But as always have a comment. Why didn’t you just put the handles and name tags in a bucket of water and dish soap and just wipe them off with a rag without destroying the patina? So much easier than when they are on the door fronts. And the inside of the cabinet… sorry, but the cockroach and mouse poop didn’t get cleaned out. I’m sorry, but I loved the piece outside.
Wetting the inside even with soap makes mouse poop smell even worse, the only way is to sand and seal in the smell in with shellac which we did at the end off camera or mix a solution of chlorine and water and wet the surface that way but its still is best to seal the timber and not wet it at all. The new owners have no issues with any smell from this item and love it very much.
Beautiful! But oh, so much paint remover. Very messy for you 😊! What wonderful knobs! I’ve never seen them before. A couple of questions; why didn’t you use a brush for the more ornamental parts? Why didn’t you remove the knobs after the first application of the paint remover? It seems they were not very attached to the paint. And comment, I would have liked to see one pink inside of the drawer removed, maybe instead of the repetition of one of the outside.
Not everything was filmed. I did use a brush on the bobbin columns to soften up the layers of paint but i find with a brush it just gets clogged up with goo and even more messy so steel wool is the best way to get the paint off with a blade but other ways would also work. The knobs were stuck on i stopped filming loosened them so it just looked like they came off easy, the knobs had paint and varnish underneath as you can see in the video and it took a bit of force to loosen them. Filming while paint stripping is not easy and i dont want stripper on my phone the inside of the drawers were only pine and i had enough of filming the stripping part i just needed to get the chest stripped by then and had filmed enough. thx for watching
Ooh Hello. Haven’t found a fellow Australian restorer yet. Pommie accent to one side. Looking forward to part 2.
Why on earth would anyone paint the inside of every drawer 😭
They painted 3 coats of pink inside the drawers
Great job!
What a travesty, to paint red cedar! I have a red cedar wardrobe (from Sydney) around 1900 and it is GORGEOUS. Your chest of drawers is very similar to (although smaller than) one that my father had, that had belonged to his grandfather. It had the hat drawers and the smaller drawers in between, then three big drawers below.
Out of all the timbers red cedar would be my favorite.
In the US those columns would have the paint/stripper removed using a stiff brush!
you could do it that way as well
It's looking so much better already!
How many tins of stripper did you use?
6 liters so 1.5 tins mostly because it was painted inside the drawers which used a lot
$50 is an absolute bargain. I’d have jumped on that too, even though it’s such a lot of work to strip paint
Wow…. I am glad you managed to get rid of all the paint. Would love to see full restoration of the chest
more to come
I guess furniture tastes come and go, BUT painting over rare and scarce timber is another thing. Haven’t these people heard of IKEA? Unfortunately, this furniture is available at auction sites at a fraction of what deserves these days. Sad, but a reality. Thank you for sharing your experience/expertise and for saving another beautiful piece of history. 🇦🇺👴🏻
@PeanutsDadForever one positive is we can now afford to buy these beautiful items when once they were just to expensive to purchase. This piece was only $50 on market place, in the 1990s it would have sold for $800 in the same painted condition and 2k restored. thx for watching
The dresser looks so much better without the half round molding on the columns.
I prefer the columns they are original to the chest
Beautiful wood, lot of hard work getting all the paint off 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
But did you test for lead?
Just about all old painted furniture would contain lead.
Beautiful piece. Looking forward to seeing you work your magic.👍🏼
Removing paint from wood furniture is my least favorite task.
Do you have a full video of this piece of furniture restoration pls? I did look in your videos, but I couldn’t find it?
There will be a full resto playlist up when restored.
@ Thanku
Lovely!
What is this? The product
Great job as usual. Welcome back. 🇦🇺👴🏻

What a magnificent job of restoration you are doing. I admire each nail pulled, glue scraping, and veneer remade. WOW
Beautiful.
