At least, in my experience, owning a few of each, Citizens quality control and general finish seems to blow Seikos out of the water. I love both brands but I think, at least, at the moment Citizen make a better watch pound for pound !!

I own 2 Citizens, both eco drives. Purchased one on AMAZON 11 yrs ago (OG Nighthawk) and the solar cell is still working flawlessly. Abused it a few times by keeping it tucked away in a drawer for months/years at a time, losing all power & recharged it in Sunlight & still keeps ticking & is still very accurate. Good morning, as a diver with multiple dive watches (over the years), a dive watch i bought in the 90s was the NY0040-09EE Promaster. It took everything......and more than it's fair share of punishment. It was commissioned in the 90s by the Italian special forces and is a 500 m tested diver, but still just conforms to the ISO 200m regs. This exact model can still be acquired today brand new, but they have discontinued it, as it's quite dated. I just bought another one because I love them. Sits right along side my SKX009, holding hands, talking about the good old days when they were foes.

@@desireless4092 the cases look like a mix of Rolex Explorer and AP Royal Oak minus the screws on the bezel. A very generic look IMO but it could be helped with better use of color and dial texture (e.g., guilloche, clos de Paris, Sunray, or perhaps something like Seiko has been doing with some of their Prospex lines). I would like to see a solid silver dial option and maybe some heatblued steel elements like the handsets, numerals, and indices. They should try doing a small seconds piece with a power reserve or a chronograph but keep the dial as clean as possible without a big ugly bezel.

    • @patrickcannady2066
      @patrickcannady2066 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Also, three hand central seconds with regular small date at 3 movements are very boring…need to see some variety beyond just conventional three hand central seconds and tricompax, cam operated chronographs. How about a Dual Time zones piece? Or a monopusher chrono? Or a flyback chrono? I mentioned small seconds before, how about a regulator? They have abundant resources but stick to middle of the road designs. The worst fault of the Series 8 I can see is that they don’t even match the date wheel color to the dial on several models. I can understand that business decision with a $600 TIssot, but a $6000 watch should have a color matched date wheel. A $6k black dial watch should have a black date wheel with contrasting numerals that complement the color ways of the rest of the piece. This is design 101 stuff.

You lucky b******! I bought my first citizen watch about 24 years ago - a titanium skyhawk - and I still have it.
Been having trouble getting it serviced because it has needed a new capacitor after all this time.
I was quoted £120 and paid a deposit of £60.
Then I was told there had been a mistake and I should have been quoted £200 (the capacitor should have cost max £30 - I looked it up on line). It took ages to come back (about 5/6 weeks) and even then it wouldn't reach a full charge or hold a charge consistent with a new capacitor. I've sent it back as not satisfactory. Still waiting.
In the meantime I've added another modern bullhead to my collection of 3 - now 4 bullheads, mostly citizen modest watch collection.
      I just luv Em!.
I say lucky bxxxxxx because one of these days I'm going to get me a 70s version but I haven't got one yet.

Skx007 vibes without the silly price tag. Had previously been collecting the various different examples of the "Ray Mears" Promaster prior to that as a side project which piqued my interest. Gradually began to see the genius in their design. They just don't have the media presence of Seiko...which is probably a plus for any potential buyers.

I attribute Citizen's lack of watch-nerd status to how they move in all sorts of new directions. Their R &:D is bold, unlike many other established brands. Eco-drive is an example of something that has worked but they are currently fiddling around with hybrid connected watches. It will be interesting to see where that goes. Watch nerds can barely admit that an i-phone can tell time, imagine connecting a watch to one. The horror.

    • @patrickcannady2066

None of that bothers me. I find it interesting and I like manufacturers who take chances on technical innovations like this (Grand Seiko and Junghans come to mind immediately) My gripes with Citizen are entirely aesthetic. I would like an atomic timing watch or chronograph that doesn’t look like it came out of a manga comic. Something just a bit more refined and simple.

Nah, Citizen gets plenty of respect from watch nerds for their quality and the Eco-Drive is among the few quartz movements that even a lot of watch snobs won't turn their noses up at. I do think Citizen's overall design language tends to range from the more mundane to the outdated on most of their lineup.
Citizen is like the nice, responsible, and smart uncle who's just kind of boring.
Seiko is like the cool uncle who does exciting stuff but gets drunk and messes stuff up every once in a while.

Not a fan of Eco-Drives. I have had 4 and every one has died an early and disappointing death on watches I loved. Field, Diver, doesn't matter. I had an original, replaced with a newer 5 years later. No Joy. Had a modern, bought 3 years ago--dead! But don't go. The Citizen Miyota Divers are off the chart. Im a Righty that owns a Lefty Diver and it is an every day Go To and the watch when I dive! Amazing watch. Automatic, accurate, and unbelievable reliability. Citizen automatics are untouchable. I prefer over my Seikos (price) and my Orient (ruggedness). I own an old school Omega Seamaster--and the Citizen wins on reliability over price. Seamaster is 20+ years old so not going anywhere, but Citizen is day to day! Can't beat an automatic Citizen.

    My Favourite Watch
Love my Citizen JP2000-08e because of its incredible history as the first dive watch with an accurate electronic depth sensor and the fact that it has been one of the most used watches by actual scuba divers, whether they be sport, professional or military divers. It looks and feels like a real tool watch.
Plus, the JP2000-08e has so many actual dive features:
    - certified diver to 200 meters
    - uni-directional bezel to track dive time (very solid clicks)
    - excellent lume on indices and hands
    - depth sensor and depth display in meters accurate to +/- 1%
    - records key data of your previous 4 dives: date, start time, max. depth reached, dive duration
    - audible alarm for reaching max. desired depth
    - audible alarm for reaching max. desired dive duration
    - audible alarm for exceeding safe ascent rate
    - quick adjust bracelet to fit over wet suit
    Plus it has more features:
    - perpetual date (digital window can display: 12 hr time, day/date, seconds)
    - chronograph/ stop watch
    - daily alarm
    - excellent lume
    - able to display 2 separate times (digital and analog display)
    - 24 mil lug width (superior case to bracelet connection)
    - quick adjust clasp (to adjust length/fit on wrist w/o tool)
    - love the bead blasted finish on the bracelet
    Plus Accuracy
    - mine is tested by me to +9 seconds per YEAR
    Plus Cost
    - approx: $400 USD
    Wishes:
    - Eco drive movement
    - sapphire instead of mineral crystal
    - illuminated digital window
