Guess I am value person at heart of it.
Casio is crazy value for the money. For the same money as a steel case, sunburst dial Casio, you can get a Timex with a brass case, cheap dial (looks like cardstock, honestly), and a beyond-cheap movement. I just got a Batman Duro with an aftermarket solid link bracelet and am very happy with it. I might get their Datejust lookalike next, then after a couple raises start on Citizen and maybe Orient. Seiko Presage and similar have great dials for the money, but they're starting to ramp up pricing.
Mechanical watches were my first intro to watches. I love the idea of a wrist size machine telling me the time, but ultimately, they're not practical unless you only own and wear one. Quartz and Eco-drives are my gotos now, grab and go, Citizen eco drive is still incredibly cool tech to fit on a wrist.
Citizen is what got me really into watches. Eco Drive is truly remarkable. When I got my first “bonus” pay in my job after graduating college, thought to myself.. I’ll gift myself to a nice $200-$400 watch. Went to different stores to dry different watches from different brands.. then ultimately, one watch caught my eye.. it fitted perfectly on my wrist.. matching my skin tone perfectly as well.. next thing you know, I’m buying it already and has been wearing it for 7 years already.

Teddy, you finally gave Citizen it's rightful recognition. Hopefully my next pick up will be the 0100. I don't think my Cartier can touch it. I'm Citizen all the way.
The clasp is nothing special and mine rattles a bit when in the closed position. Other than that, the bracelet is actually quite good. One of the highest value watches in my opinion. I would like to see a similar watch model where it would be easier to swap out bracelets/straps.
Just bought Citizen NB1050 as my first watch few days ago, 38mm, great specs an nice looking watch, only downside is the 19mm bracelet with only 1 microadjustement.
Teddy, not only your knowledge and enthusiasm around watches is palpable and contagious, you are also a wonderful communicator and seem to be a fantastic human being. Watching your videos feels like talking to a dear friend. Thanks for reviving my passion for watches, and doing so in such a pleasant manner.
My first Citizen was a Blue Angels edition in 2011 when I was stationed with the Blues. The enlisted team gets a sweet deal on the Blues watch and the Officers get a pretty good deal on a Breightling. They switched designs the next year and I had to get it for my collection. It was the one with the blue leather strap. My latest citizen is a blue on blue dive watch. For the price, it’s hard to beat a $4-500 Citizen.
I have an Aqualand from 2002 and it's still going. Depth Gauge still works. Ecodrive still works. The watch was a gift from my late grandmother. Actually wore it at my wedding last year in her memory. The watches Citizen makes are worth every penny. Everyone I know who has owned 1 will more than likely share my sentiment.
My father's regular watch for the last 15-or-so years of his life was the Eco-Drive Skyhawk A-T Titanium purchased on a family vacation. He grew up in the 60s and was always fascinated by the technologies developed over his lifetime, including the technical marvel of that watch. It's a bit too large for me, but I still enjoy wearing it on occasion and thinking of him. Citizen watches will always have a place in my collection because of that.
Glad to see Teddy do a comprehensive overview of the Citizens line up. They are great watches and certainly can compete with so many styles and brands out there.
Citizen is the most underappreciated watch brand. They make quality watches, beautiful and intricate dials at affordable prices. If quartz doesn't put you off you really don't have to look elsewhere. Their watch lines are huge.
my first foray (I mean when I could afford a decently priced watch) into the watch world is a citizen navihawk, due to always travelling I found it checked a lot of the features ai wanted without looking like a smartwatch, and after 7 watches later I still love to wear it 😊 glad you're covering these!
I love Citizen watches, my wife bought my first Citizen Paradex with the Azure dial for our anniversary many years ago..........absolutely beautiful watch and I see micro brands making watches that closely resemble this discontinued Citizen watch. I recently bought a Tsuki-yomi A-T Super Titanium, another homerun and I absolutely love this watch, the very most money I ever spent on a watch. I can see why some people will go nuts on a watch collection, but I'm the average working man and can't afford some of the brands out there. The Citizen brand is the everyday citizen's watch.
Love this channel, it's just so educational. I really like the citizen fugu promaster automatic as they have a lefty crown that is comfortable and won't get in the way while doing different activities. Also has the newer upgraded 8204 movement that now hacks too which is a bonus.

It’s the tissot gentleman to the prx like that integrated sports watch is to my nb1050. It’s practically a chronomaster with a 9000 series moment and less cool dials.
Both Citizen and Seiko have great reputations for dive watches. Also, they have a history of models issued or worn by military services of many countries. Numerous professional and recreational divers have a Citizen and a Seiko within their personal collection.
Citizen brought me into this hobby when I inherited a formal silver and gold colored watch from my deceased mother's grandfather. Is quartz and simple, yet classy and practical. Today I have a Tissot LeLocle, Seiko cocktail time, couple G-Shock, and the one I use most of the time, a Citizen Promaster Diver titanium eco drive. Citizen definitely rocks
I love my my Citizen promaster aqualand (JP2000-08E) Have taken it boating, diving hiking. And it still looks as good as new. The Ecodrive is such a comfort knowing if i just leave the shades open i can come back a week or 2 later and the watch is perfect. Have since purchased more expensive watches, but constantly go back to the Corso for its comfort and reliability.

Hallo Teddy, that was very informative, I really never thought of citizen watches, but now you got me interested. Thanks and as always love from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Citizen is my favorite brand, I am a fan of the promaster series. My first one was the skyhawk blue angels edition, radio controlled eco drive, and the navyhawk was the second one. Recently I bought the promaster skyhawk pilot, eco drive and radio controlled, but a much simpler dial in super titanium, it's only about 99 grams. I like the tsuyosa, is a great alternative to the Tissot prx. 👍👍👍
I went from no Citizen watches to four in quick order. And all because of great prices, a lot of watch for the money. I got two Eco-drives, both of which are great. One is a chronograph. Then I have one mechanical and one quartz. All told, all four cost me less than $2000. Two were new and two were pre-owned. Can't say enough good things about Citizen. They have made nice additions to my collection.
Citizen was the first real watch I got myself in my 20’s. I have 13 eco-drives and 4 FUGUs now. I’ve recently gotten the Series 8 GMT Pepsi and have been blown away by everything about it. It’s my most accurate automatic I have at less than a second a day fast. I have a Swiss made chronometer that’s not that accurate, lol. Citizen is seriously killing it!
Among Citizen divers I'd also mention NY0040 and NY0085 watches, which are similar to "Fugu", but touch smaller in diameter - 41.5mm and cheaper. It's direct descendant of OG NY models from 90's. Although it's a pretty basic watch, it has great proportion for majority of normal wrists, also it's no-nonsense reliable tool watch and with aftermarket strap, it's great value IMO. Some current versions are shipped with 8204 movement, which hacks, but be sure to check that. My personal big bonus for almost all Cizitens is their original design language, you can hate or love it, but in most cases, it doesn't look like a clone of other brand.
I think Citizen are a bit overlooked when it comes to their automatic options as well. For example, the Citizen NB1060-04A is a stunning 38mm dress watch with a silver laquer dial and an automatic 4hz sweep. Not many people know about it because it's a JDM model but it's worth taking look at.
Citizen is awesome. I wish you touched on their chronographs running the E210 movement like the Calibre 2100 (the Ron Swanson) or the Tsuno Chrono. The eco drive movement provides power to the mechanical chronograph complication and they're a dream to use. A tactile snap to the pushers and a sweeping second hand that Flys back when reset. Times up to 12 hours. Truly an awesome watch from them that really flys under the radar.
amzwatch You are so well-informed about luxury watches. You've obviously done your due diligence and the comparison to the US is very informative...because of course, I live in New York. thank you very much
Citizen Promaster Aqualand watches were worn by RAN Clearance Divers between 1990s and the 2000s. In fact, Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive watches are still given to graduates of the Clearance Diver training school at graduation ceremonies. I wear a Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive watch that is the same model worn by Her Majesty’s Royal Navy divers.
You used to be able to pick up a chronomaster at the citizen boutique in NYC, that's how I got mine. They closed it about a year ago, hopefully they'll reopen. They also carried capagnola
I've owned at least two dozen Citizens over the year. Nighthawks, Eco-Zilla's, NY0040's, Aqualand models, the original Orca and a bunch of others. They really are an excellent brand. Others might be flashier with more interesting designs and brand cachet... but you buy a Citizen when you don't really care for that and just need something that works and is affordable. Especially now that brands like Seiko are moving upmarket with things like divers.
Nice video. I have a couple of citizen watches, one I bought some years ago and another that an uncle gifted to me. But I don't know why after all this time since I've been collecting watches I see them differently and I don't like them as I used to. Thanks for the video to appreciate and wear them again. I would really like to get the ecozilla olive green regardless of my wrist being not that big. 😁
I've always liked the natural appeal of a nice time piece, but I only recently dove into the world of watches and I have to say, I'm hooked. As an aviator in the USAF, I always relied on my trusty Gshock. But I've recently discovered Citizen's Navihawk line and just purchased one for my birthday, and I couldn't be happier. Cheers!
Unfortunately often snubbed by some watch collectors but many Citizen watches are good looking and very reliable for what they are. I’d rather wear this than a Moonswatch anytime. Thanks for this review.
Inspired by your video, went up to the window where I left my Nighthawk 4 months ago. Took off my Ball Worldtimer and put on the Nighthawk to watch your great video.
ECO Drive works and is durable. I've had Seiko solar drives fail after a year or so. But the Citizens I have are going strong after many years, and are very accurate.
Awesome video Teddy! I've had a number of the Promaster Divers over the years and recently downsized my collection to only two watches. My daily is the Citizen Connect CX0000-55L, which is a real set it and forget it watch with a few smart features, its sporty and dressy enough for most occasions and helps keep my UN Diver 42 from getting too beat up when doing things around the house.
I think the following deserve a mention: Campanola line - Citizen's highest end watches with distinctive designs. I have a couple and these are beautiful to behold - just avoid the ones with more edgy designs. Incredible dials and finishing. Bracelet quality is also very good which is a complaint some people have about Grand Seiko. Citizen Collection line, specifically the silver leaf lacquer models which have amazing dials that should really be on much more expensive watches. Attesa line which are generally titanium watches using radio controlled & GPS tech - I bought one a decade ago and it's what gave me confidence in higher end Citizens.
Just Started now with Citizen Watches. Go my First one 1 Year ago and got my Hands now on the Attesa Hakuto-R. I rly like the Limited Watches. They have a Really nice Design. My Goal here is to have at least 5 New Watches at the End of 2024 with 3 of them Limited Editions. Hurt my Wallet but its so Worth.
Highly recommend the Caliber 2100 or anything with the E210 movement. It is a hand assembled movement with 12 hour fly back chrono, alarm, and eco drive. I bought mine in 2007 and it is still going. They have re-released the 2100 again, but many older ones are available for under 300. New Chrono racers with the movement in the bullhead configuration are available as well.
I had a cop compliment my yellow gold Citizen, only had one issue of stopwatch not setting back to 12 so under warranty got it repaired and it has handled stress like a g-shock, it has not left my wrist since i bought it
Just bought the divers watch showcased right at the start when I went on a dive trip. Really happy with it and got it at the Duty free store so 300 bucks off was awesome
Glad to see the Promaster Navihawk A-T mentioned! I don't see it that often. My parents surprised me with one for my birthday/ passing my CFI-H/ promotion. They placed it in an old Invicta box they had laying around. I open it up expecting some aviation Invicta themed watch & low and behold I see the Navihawk (AT8227-56X). I really like it! Not that big of a watch person prior to my dad starting to collect them (Tudor, Omega, etc). I saw Breitling & IWC pilot watches, but could not justify that price tag coming from a $35 Gshock I bought at walmart prior to a deployment. I was on the fence on spending so much (relatively) for it, but they beat me to it
I had a dive watch from Citizen, but the seconds hand falling almost everytime between the lines, it was driving me mad, so I sold it. Now I have a dress watch with Eco-Drive and this is a watch I love
It may not sit in Citizen’s core pedigree, but I’m very excited about the 0200 auto series with the LJP movements. Hopefully this relationship blossoms further under the same umbrella.
I daily drive a Promaster Nighthawk Blue Angels. That watch will not die. I dropped it crystal down on concrete and all I got was a tiny scratch on the bezel. Love using it daily and is just a clean, functional watch.
Could've mentioned the Citizen NB1050 which is essentially Citizen's response to the SARB033 with the same dimensions and better specs. I hope Citizen continues on this trend of releasing new unexpected watches that cater to the enthusiasts desires, instead of the usual mass market stuff they became known for.
Fun video - I didn't realize you carry Citizens in the store. One deserving piece that didn't get a mention is the Promaster Tough. Built like a brick house with the monocoque case, magnet- and shock-resistant, and operates in extreme temperatures (unfortunately relevant lately). There's something appealing about the unadorned all-business styling that speaks to me.
Agree 100% re your assessment of the Promaster “Tough”. Bought mine as “refurbished” at an amazing price and have been fully impressed by it for four years. Great minimalist and truly tough watch.
what’s wrong with Seiko? I’ve heard they have great quality. I only own a series 8 Apple watch and $13 casio, so i don’t have any experience with these watches.
Seike has great build quality. Just because some guys that rather spend 700 dollars on 12 microbrand watches instead of getting an alpinist, willard or marinemaster complain about seikos lower-end models doesn't mean that the brand has a bad build-quality. The opinion of those people isn't worth very much. I've never seen an seiko with an actual production-problem myself

Those watches were issued for the italian militaty (marina militare) the predecesor version the ny008x
I just got my green Eco Drive with a black band today. Love it. I look forward to many years with it. Great video as usual 👌
I think that's part of the problem, some of their best offerings aren't shared outside of Japan and select other countries.
I consider Citizen to be the best value quartz watches out there and if I want an automatic in the same price range, it's Seiko all day.
Thanks for finally making one about Citizen. One of the best for value watch brands to date.
You used to be able to pick up a chronomaster at the citizen boutique in NYC, that's how I got mine. They closed it about a year ago, hopefully they'll reopen. They also carried capagnola
The Chandler is great for small wrists, just letting you guys know.
Cheers!
Rly love their Ana-digi Temp models. The combination of digital and analog is really quirky and fun.
Unfortunately often snubbed by some watch collectors but many Citizen watches are good looking and very reliable for what they are. I’d rather wear this than a Moonswatch anytime. Thanks for this review.
No NB1050 nor NB1060? Come on. One of the most attractive offerings at their pricepoints.
Inspired by your video, went up to the window where I left my Nighthawk 4 months ago. Took off my Ball Worldtimer and put on the Nighthawk to watch your great video.
The jdm nb1050 and 1060 are the best values
Really enjoyed this. You should do more for other affordable brands to the every day joe.
Teddy, there is however a category of Promaster that people rarely talking about, and it's available: Promaster Yacht
My current everyday watch is a Citizen Garrison. Such a great everyday watch!
I think the following deserve a mention:
Campanola line - Citizen's highest end watches with distinctive designs.
I had a cop compliment my yellow gold Citizen, only had one issue of stopwatch not setting back to 12 so under warranty got it repaired and it has handled stress like a g-shock, it has not left my wrist since i bought it
Truly a Citizen for everyone
Teddy you MUST review the Spagetti Scameti watch.
It may not sit in Citizen’s core pedigree, but I’m very excited about the 0200 auto series with the LJP movements. Hopefully this relationship blossoms further under the same umbrella.
I recently bought the blue-dial Weekender. Live it with its Explorer-type indices and numerals.
I have a Promaster Blue Angels and an Altichron. Absolutely great watches and always looking for my next.
Great list!
I particularly like the "Brycen". Thanks for sharing.
Just got a Bambino 40.5 and I do love it.
Love your channel with so many stellar watches! For me the MAMACOO’ watch is my favorite. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
Another JDM Mechanical Citizen is the NB1050 model series, which I think would please a lot of people. It has an OP look to it.
I daily drive a Promaster Nighthawk Blue Angels. That watch will not die. I dropped it crystal down on concrete and all I got was a tiny scratch on the bezel. Love using it daily and is just a clean, functional watch.
Teddy why don't you visit Japan and go to Citizen and report on them like you do with Swiss watches
Always always have a quartz in your collection. And citizen are perfect.
Have 5 Citizens and wear two most of the time. Diver Pepsi and Baby Blue Tsuyosa. The Tsuyosa I wear 5 days a week and the diver weekends.
I got the Calandrier with blue dial and stainless steel band last year for a great deal on QVC. Beautiful watch.
Lol! I was looking for this kind of video yesterday...
I love Citizen!
Thank you!
daily 2 citizens for over 10 yrs - an auto promaster and an eco-drive incredibly reliable
Just picked one up and I love it! I'm guessing he didn't mention it because it's a UK market watch that's not available domestically, though.
Agree 100% re your assessment of the Promaster “Tough”. Bought mine as “refurbished” at an amazing price and have been fully impressed by it for four years. Great minimalist and truly tough watch.
I own an eco Drive promaster dive watch and it's my favorite every day watch..
Great video! I have The Citizen watch AQ1020-51A and I love it! Found it Brand new in California. Can you do a review on this top tier Citizen? Cheers
If only we could get Seiko designs with Citizen build quality.
what’s wrong with Seiko? I’ve heard they have great quality. I only own a series 8 Apple watch and $13 casio, so i don’t have any experience with these watches.
Seiko quality issues are overstated.
U r right, gave a Seiko 5 as a present away, broken after 3yrs. Wearing an Allwyn Seiko licence built made in India, ~25yrs old, no overhauling, swimming, still running. Never Seiko!
@@TheMonsterHunterTV it's not the cheaper ones I'm referring to. It's the alpinist, Willard, and various 62mas interpretations which are the issue. Misaligned chapter ring, misaligned hour hand, plus poor regulation. There's no way on earth any of their 6r movements are near a sellita sw200. The only line that is the exception is the LX.
The One and 0100 impressed me.
