I'm a first aider and recently treated a baby having a febrile seizure in a taxi waiting office. Apart from the usual 'act with supreme confidence'. I did the recommended cooling by removing the some of the absolute mass of clothes this kid was wearing. It worked and the baby was normal by the time the ambulance, which had been called before I got there, arrived.

My 14 month old son just had one of these, no one in my family had ever seen or experienced one before... I was in the kitchen getting my fiance a drink when I heard her screaming repeatedly at the top of her lungs, I didn't know what was happening, I thought she was badly injured or my son was injured, I went into the room shaking, saw my son unresponsive and I thought he died... I dropped the drink and fell backwards through the baby gate and started panicking and having trouble breathing.. I tried yelling to my mum to call the ambulance but I couldn't speak a coherent sentence... My mum was screaming too and the whole place quickly became a mad house... I eventually pulled myself together and got back up from the floor and went into the room clenching my chest from the pain... I put my finger under his nose and felt him breathing so I knew he was still alive... But then he started bleeding from the mouth, he'd lost colour in his face and his eyes looked lifeless so I was still in a panic... The ambulance showed up in less than 5 minutes of being called... They told us he would be fine and this is common... They took us to the hospital... He is now back to being himself and continuously stealing my food and my phone as he does...
The moral of the story is to let everyone know what one of these are before they occur because seeing your baby in a state that looks like death is traumatic...

A helpful video although I had some good advice from a specialist who said that cooling the babies/child's exterior too quickly can in fact make their body's temp rise to combat/react to the cold air. Makes sense doesn't it? Only very slightly reduce surrounding temp but don't make any shocking or radical changes......

Just to assure people that febrile convulsions can happen due to the baby being overheated in a hot car for example but mostly happen due to a fever from a virus or infection. In which case there isn't a lot you can do other than try to keep their fever fairly low. But then a fever does also help fight off the virus so there's no need to completely eliminate the fever but certainly stop it getting too high. Studies suggest that it may not be the fever necessarily that causes the seizure but more the brains response to a sudden increase in temperature. The child is unconscious and isn't aware of the seizure in the slightest. They may also be very lethargic and sleepy afterwards. Place them on their side, remove any dummies or bottles from their mouth, don't put your fingers in their mouth, cool them down, time the seizures and try to stay calm. As scary as they look, they are fairly common and should be quite short lived. If one lasts longer than 5 minutes then an ambulance should be called.
They can be a sign of something more serious like meningitis but are then usually accompanied by other symptoms like neck stiffness or light sensitivity. Whether you treat them at home or in hospital, let your doctor know about the seizure so they can rule out any serious illnesses ❤ also, DON'T put your child in cold water or put anything cold on them. This can send them in to shock. Just gently cool them! NOT cold!

The doctor at my daughters e.r. told me last night that it's not about how high the fever is but how quickly the fever happens. I don't think this is right though. My daughter has been having light shakes, still awake and everything, so I'm not sure if it's adrenaline from the sticking and poking last night or idk. She's been having a fever of 104 and she's 10 months. White blood cells are high but lungs, urine, and blood looks otherwise good. So I'm not sure whats going on. Less diapers.

According to my Granny, my birth, dad had one in his life when he was just less than a year old.
She told me that when she went to visit her neighbor friend, she had him in the baby carrier and came into the house. After she put him down, he started to tense up and his muscles and his eye started rolling in the back of his head, and he started convulsing. My Granny rushed him to the emergency room, only to find out he had a high fever, and she was told back in the day to put rubbing alcohol on his for head to keep him from having a seizure anytime he spiked a temperature

My 👶🏼 fall from a round chair and hurt his back bottom of head after sometimes my 👶🏼 asked my mom to eat rice my mom agreed and gave him food but suddenly 👶🏼 start to vomit again and again and after vomit was stop he began to behave weird like closing eye slowly slowly and having a hot temperature on his head my father rushed to take him to doctor. So this is my story.
Remember : if someone is falled and hurt his head make sure not to give them food .

No you can get siezure because of how quick your body temp changes. For example if temp was 98 and spiked to 100 quickly someone can have a siezure. It depends how ones body manages or handles temp change or heat.
