Children with adhd are also incredibly creative, social butterflies who get along with anyone of any age, and have a supurb passion for life. I have ADHD and so does my son. Having it myself, I've been able to be extremely understanding and compassionate with his behaviour, while also knowing how to manage it. And he is such a BEAUTIFUL kid. Everyone who's ever known him feel the same way. ADHD is not a disadvantage, just a difference. If you can understand them and how their brains work, you can nurture them them in way that brings out all the best parts of that.
Beautify comment thank you for sharing your experience my daughter is diagnosed with adhd sometimes its heartbreaking to see her upside downs and her bad relationships with her friends but trying my best to understand her I hope i dont fail
Absolutely and thanks for adding this - we are aware that since making this film new information has come to light and we are organizing to address this in the film. There are as you say many strengths that come with different ways that brains work - creativity, incredible people skills and intellectual ability - being able to think outside the box! We appreciate your care and time in getting in touch.

Did they have to make this video so dark and dystopian?? It feels like all these kids are gonna turn into vampires or something. ADHD does not have to be so depressing and negative. As a parent of a child on then autism spectrum and ADHD, you cannot say that all these things in this video work for every child. The U.K. like to try and cover everyone under one umbrella for cost cutting reasons and as such if people on the spectrum and/or with ADHD don't fit perfectly within the required pigeon hole, they get lost in the system as no-one is trained in the UK on the NHS to accurately deal with these people as individuals. For a better understanding of ADHD please see peoples channels on TH-cam who actually live with the condition like 'How to ADHD'.
Thanks for your reply - we are aware that since making this film new information has come to light and we are organizing to address this in the film.We appreciate your care and time in getting in touch.
Very negative video. Awful!!!! Adhd isn't all negative and bad. There are many great and positive things about it as well. Pity that they didn't think to put it in the video. I Hope no children and parents of children who are newly diagnosed with adhd or suspect that their child might have adhd sees this. What an awfully negative way to explain and educate people about adhd. 😢
Oh yeah I'm really glad to be the smart kid that utterly failed at life. I should never have passed my genes on. At least this time someone will pay enough attention to maybe get them some understanding and help before middle age and all those wasted years.
When I was 5-14 everybody thought I had adhd cause I couldn't stop moving, I was forgetful and couldn't concentrate. The only reason was because I was still growing in because of puberty. I am nothing like I was as a kid. I do have social anxiety but that is not caused of adhd, besides I have already had it checked at a clinic and I was told I didn't have it.
My boys have Autism and I have ADHD and I'm starting to not understand the difference in the two. There's so much overlap. Especially because Autism is such a big spectrum. For us the difference is a lack of social awareness and sensitivity to others that my boys have. I don't have that. I'm overly concerned with caring for others feelings and we'll being. This includes strangers. I hate hurting anyone's feelings or inconveniencing others. My boys are BLUNT and work in their own time frame, doing what they're interested in and nothing else. They don't answer to their names. You will repeat their names 10 times in a row before you get their attention. No exaggeration. I don't have this issue. They have difficulty with eye contact and get stuck on their preferred topic of the moment. My boys also stim a lot which I don't do but I do have to wear headphones a lot to soften noises and certain things like fans blowing on me or really bright lights agitate me. I thought those sensory issues were more common with Autism then ADHD? Anxiety disorder is another diagnosis of mine and that might be contributing to my sensory issues?
Thanks for your thoughts we hope the films have been helpful - I wonder if you may find this film of ours helpful: nipinthebud.org/films-for-parents-carers/autism-and-co-existing-conditions-in-children/
What is real sad is I was diagnosed with this as a child got alot for support and medication and I was abruptly moved to another city at the age of 14 and I was lost in the system I reached out to the doctors and was dismissed as a result I was completely lost in the system and left to deal with it alone. I'm not 35 and I've literally been In hell

I never knew I had adhd.. I do notice I couldn't pay attention in classes.. especially the memory learning class like the teacher shows you sentences and then erases a few of the words so you can try to remember them this is when I was 7-8 YO. My teacher was also not helping because I was slow in learning and she always mocked me.. like one time the "A student" was surrounding her and she called me to write my name on a paper and at that time I still didn't know which one was "d"and "b". My name is supposed to have double "d" but I wrote it "bb" and she said to the "A students".. "look at her.. she can't even tell which one is b and d" I was so embarrassed but I didn't show it to them and act like I don't care. When I think back she shouldn't be a primary school teacher because she can't understand a student and actually the most selfish human being I've ever seen. One time my friend had an accident.. she was pushed by someone while playing "tag" after school and she fell onto the parking curb and broke some flower pots. She lost her front teeth and had to wear fake teeth since she was 7-8YO. After that incident I was hanging out with my (injured) friend during break time when we passed by our teacher. She didn't even ask if my friend was okay or anything. The first thing she said was "don't you forget to tell your mom to pay me back because you broke my flower pots" at that time I didn't notice how selfish she was. Until I grew up thinking back how messed up that was. She was a PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER...

My son is turning 7 and he has developmental delays and features of autism. I feel like I am still in denial and I didn't went back to see his neuro dev pedia. But all the symtoms shown here matches his and even his OT would say he is more on the ADHD side rather than autism. I really try my best to help him and today I just saw he got zero in spelling. It angers me and frustrates me but at the same time made me feel bad because my child ia going through this and always ask myself how can I help him. He is more into outdoor activities like swimming, football, running like all those type. He loves muic and loves to dance too. I'm just sad because he needs academics in his life and without that what will be hia future like? So sorry to hear about what happened to you on that age and it ia really important for teachers at this day and age that they will learn to see these type of disabilities in children. It will be really helpful for the parents too.
@@bubblygirlduddett3 You kid will appreciate if you could be more helpful instead of punishing. When I was a kid.. I feel like I was stopid.. just because I can't remember anything (Memory learning) like days/dates and even like simple sentences. My parents never punish me when I fail. They just think I will be better one day.. maybe because they never stop believing in that and continue to help me learn.. at the age of 10 I started to have self awareness, I can read and write even going on school activities. I still have a little trouble with pronouncing words at that time but the improvement that counts. Maybe teach him the way he is interested in.. Like for me, I like to have fun while learning, visual, conversation and no pressure. This is observed by my teacher too.
My son had lack of oxygen before birth, wrong birth position, cord wrapped around his neck twice, 27 + hours without waters before birth. Nhs never said this is risk for adhd. However doctors in Russia said it is absolutely risk factors of adhd and my son suffered brain injury at birth (based on his ultrasound, EEG, and other tests). It is not always genetic and birth risks should always be taken very seriously.
My mum is neurologist, and she always said that pregnancy ans labour should go absolutely super and perfecrly, if mother wants a healthy child, but alsi genetics is important, envirinment and food

Thirdly, the secret that saved my life from the torment of uneducated teachers. Artemis Fowl taught me this one. It's just something that works for me. When it becomes hard to concentrate, or it is too easy to concentrate on the wrong thing, or I just can't stop fidgeting, I wiggle my big toe back and forth. A very temporary distraction. Wiggling my toe takes my attention just long enough to bring me back to where I need to be and isnt easily noticed by those who might antagonize.
Greetings! My brother, who is 11yrs old, has all of the symptoms that were spoken about in the video. He was born premature and had low birth weight. He behaves a lot less like children his age and has difficulty concentrating on anything. However, he is able to concentrate (only for a few minutes) on things like video games, cartoons, etc. How is it possible that things like cartoons, etc hold his attention, while he's not able to concentrate on studies? Also, what can be done to improve his concentration levels? Will his adhd ever get better? Will he be able to lead a normal life as he grows up? Pls answer these questions.
Hi there - thank you so much for getting in touch - we do hope the video was helpful. I can tell you why he can focus on games its because it stimulates his brain. My son is awaiting second assesment for ADHD he has been reffered by his school because he had difficulties in school with concentration and following instructions , for us he was always like that and we put that down to his young age and energy levels, however any given homework is major task like 5 words to write takes 45 minutes and its major tantrum pretty much day in day out.Try to search on YT why children with ADHD can focus on games and not on homework that really opened my eyes

Dreadful video, full of misunderstandings surrounding ADHD. For example, the speaker says that ADHD is more common in boys - this is statement is misleading as many studies show girls and boys are equally likely to have ADHD but it is far less frequently DIAGNOSED in girls because they often present differently and are often less disruptive at school than their male counterparts. The disruption at school is often what triggers a referral and subsequent diagnosis, hence girls with ADHD are underdiagnosed. I also take issue with the statement that children with ADHD always do badly at school. Whilst it is true that ADHD usually causes children to underachieve academically, this is relative to their intelligence. It is common for a highly intelligent child with ADHD to do well enough to go to university and graduate, albeit with a lower grade than they would undoubtedly be capable of if they did not have ADHD.

I’m 11 years old I have add ( its adhd without the hyperactivity) I’m a girl and I don’t have any other learning disabilities (it’s a generational thing) I get a’s and I have anxiety I’m really good at school and homework isn’t hard it’s kind of hard to focus if I don’t take my pills I think joining theatre is perfect for kids with add or adhd it calms me down and I love singing and dancing
That sounds amazing and ADD can be one of the most incredible experiences as the brain can do amazing things that neurotypical brains can't do. We are actually updating this film as it is quite old and there's been so much learning since this was made. Thanks for contribution.
i'm a 15 y/o normal teen. in my school we have this one particular period when only some of the chosen 9th grade students have to be in pairs and each pair has to lead one group of 7th grade students and share our knowledge, talk with them and perhaps just spend time with them as seniors. in my group, there's this one weird junior who's diagnosed with ADHD, and i've only known this recently. before i knew, i've always wondered why he acts so strange, why he can be very rude at times, why he misbehaves a lot, why he doesn't listen nor pay attention to me whenever i'm talking and why he swears a lot more than me despite the fact that he's two years younger. this behaviour was definitely inexcusable for me at first, but now that i've watched this video, i think it's only right for me to try to empathize with his condition, especially since i am his senior after all.
Thank you so much for your perspective, we appreciate you sharing here. We will be updating this film and would love to know what you would like to see from us at Nip in the Bud that would have been helpful for You.

I had all the signs of ADHD when I was 6-17 and none of my teachers or doctors could recognize it. Thank you so much for adding your thoughts. That's very tough and is an experience we hear about very often with adults who didn't get early intervention to help them thrive as they deserved. It's really why the founders of Nip in the Bud were set up - to ensure that any child whose brain happens to work differently is empowered with the knowledge about how they work and so do the adults around them (including the education system - which is still very behind in understanding how to support children living neurodiverse lives. If you dont mind me asking what difference do you think it would have made to you had things been different?
Therw isnt saying in the video aboit discalculation, my daughter cant recognize clock , what tike is it still cant learn, my father has Adhd 70 years old, never had any friend, very bad study ability, never have been working, lazyness, depression and so on... so genetics is very important

Im utterly confused As a little kid i was baissecly gifted I lerned how to read at 5 years old before even going to school and spell and a very high level Suddenly at maybe 11 years old it all started to snap for me Everything became boring and it became worse in middle school. I started to not understand a things of what my teachers were saying and in highschool i didnt get the best grades in my native launguege subject and found out later at 16 years old of my ADD (adhd) now im 17 with still same struggles but graduated. Still confused if this is normal for my symptoms or if ADD can just come to you later on?

My guide on how to hide adhd (I have adhd btw) 1.don’t always bring up things your obsessed with 2.keep your mouth shut and never interrupt 3.dont make a reference to memes 4.maybe try to focus.. 5.sit normally (This is how I learned how to fit in :(
One thing I observed about this ADHD that I found really strange is, isn't it interesting how ADHD kids can't focus in class but they have no problem focusing for hours on something they love, like video games? What kind of "neurological problem" would create problems with focus selectively? At any rate, since I have symptoms myself, I tried doing some deliverance in Jesus' name to see if it worked -- and yep! Yawned at least 10 times, and then I was able to work on a project I had severe issues concentrating on FOR YEARS. Praise God, praise Jesus! The psychiatrists and psychologists act like they know everything, but in this case, they really don't.
Hyperfocus is part of ADHD, it's the flipside of not being able to pay attention for long periods, it's like the brain zeroes in on something and then that's it, I think it's repetitive tasks as that's what I find when something is repetitive I can focus as long as it's not monotonous. I also believe in Jesus, sometimes we need more help than just prayer and deliverance. For those that works for I thank God but for those it doesn't work for they shouldn't feel ashamed to seek professional help and we shouldn't be judgmental about that either.
I think my son has ADHD... I don't know where to go for help. It makes me frustrated and angry all the times to keeping talking to him about the same thing over and over again. He never stops talking. My talk constantly in class. His teacher keeps in calling about not paying attention and very talkative. When he is on his tablet he is so focused but not when doing his homework or studying. He just keep on making the same mistake very often and he forgets important things. He leaves his bag, lunch, books ect at school. He keeps on forgetting them. It's has drained me so much especially now since I am a single mother😢
@jodi-annyoung1164 my son is exactly the same way to the tee. I am so frustrated too I know he has adhd but I'm so scared to put him medication as I have a lot of bad stories about adhd medication. I get calls from school too 😢
@@TheFakeyCakeMaker You do you, but these 'professionals' don't know what they are doing for the most part and they can't even fix themselves. Here's a quote for you--- This week’s item is from the Orlando Sentinel, with the headline: 'Mental Health Professionals Battle Mental Disease:' Many mental health professionals, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists and nurses have waged, or are waging their own battles against a mental disease. Studies have found that psychiatrists have the highest suicide rate among physicians, and a 1994 survey of psychologists found almost two-thirds had battled clinical depression, 84% had spent time in therapy, and 29% of psychologists had felt suicidal at some point. Mental illness among therapists is more common than in the general population.

What's with the depressing and scary background music? ADHD is not a horrible disease their brains just work differently, us as adults can learn to work around them. this music makes it sound like a horrible thing
It is a horrible disease. I work with kids in schools and it interferes with their learning and they often get into trouble as some are defiant and impulsive. Not all, but most I've worked with as a therapist. I wouldn't want any of my children with this disorder. But the good thing as most symptoms decrease and go away the older they get.

Children need to be outside for at least 3 hours per day from early childhood to develop their vestibular system. Vestibular system deficiency manifests itself as an imbalance in postural control muscles' activation, which causes an inappropriate postural condition. This postural imbalance will lead to severe cognitive problems such as problems in paying attention to the task, which is more common in children with ADHD. There has been a study done that over the last 30 years, children fidget way more, and have less attention span. With the rise of screens, shortening recess, parents who don't have the opportunity to take them out because they are busy..Children need movement to develop. Keep children moving. I am honestly not sure that all these diagnoses are right. I am no doctor, but it is alarming how many diagnoses exist in the US, and they don't exist in other countries. Once children are told there is something "wrong" with them, it carries with them all their life.

I have never been diagnosed but I'm pretty sure I had it as child but as adult I'm perfectly fine. In my opinion, the worst thing to do is medicaid a child. I believe my son is the same way. But whatever it is, what it is, he'll be fine in life. It's over emphasized for some reason.

Same, I only struggle when I find a task to be boring but most of the time it was fun so my ADHD went under the radar. I thought ADHD is someone that has anger issues and is very impulsive, but turns out I had inattentive ADHD all along 🥲
Thanks for your thoughts and absolutely - ADHD does have some challenges as much as people living with ADHD have real strengths that set them apart at Nip in the Bud we try and talk about how, for some people (not all) there can be very difficult times and it's vital that a diagnosis and support is made available so everyone can thrive in a predominantly neurotypical world. We are also aware that since making this film new information has come to light and we are organizing to address this in the film.We appreciate your care and time in getting in touch.
I know why that you having a ADHD like the child who is doing behaviour or having a tantrum but I think so any compensation that you do wrong it's not to add a learner's or teacher when she was saying that and I think so that I don't have any ADHD because sometimes it's really can't feel to all the children and adults what is going to need😰
I really don’t like this video. In fact, I kinda hate it. Why are children with adhd being objectified like this? “They may be more destructive” please. People with adhd (myself included) are also incredibly kind people with huge hearts. They tend to be smarter. While it can be a challenge, it doesn’t need to be described with this depressing music in the background. People with adhd are often extremely smart, kind, funny, and creative.
Your parents are wrong. If you have ADHD it's a very natural thing, you just need to find coping skills. I am sorry your parents are not more supportive.

@@stormyyclouds I will stay to my opinion, because of personal experience. Many things stated by doctors on various topics were revised with passage of years. In USA compared to Germany, Finland, Japan the levels of ADHD are more than double in children. I leave in Germany and upon moving here saw a drastic change in behaviour of kids.

Also, my learning ability was not effected. Your patience, and ability to teach comprehensibly was tested. I pick up new skills like Jeff Bezos picks up dollars, often and with passion. You might think you helped us, but you just gave every bad teacher a plethora of excuses to send the adhd kids to isolation rooms. Which is not good. I don't think I need to describe the problem with using torture methods on children. You described children like if you fed them at midnight theyd eat you. Who hurt you? What significant other had adhd and used it as an excuse too many times? Punishments dont work with adhd, so STOP SETTING A BIAS PRONE TO CAUSING PUNISHMENT PRETTY PLEASE.
Thanks for getting in touch - ADHD does have some challenges as much as people living with ADHD have real strengths but at Nip in the Bud we try and talk about how, for some people (not all) there can be very difficult times and its vital that a diagnosis and support is made available so everyone can thrive in a predominantly neurotypical world.
ADHD is caused by bad parenting. It's not about blame, but understanding that all imbalances in children are the direct result of the emotional condition of the parents and their subsequent pathologies. It is a rare person who is truly qualified and prepared to rear a child.

I want help . Please guide me how to help my child to channelise his creativity who has been diagnosed with ADHD today

As a therapist, this is accurate for most kids with ADHD. With the right help and support, they can learn to manage.

At least this time someone will pay enough attention to maybe get them some understanding and help before middle age and all those wasted years.
i have adhd
When I was 5-14 everybody thought I had adhd cause I couldn't stop moving, I was forgetful and couldn't concentrate. The only reason was because I was still growing in because of puberty. I am nothing like I was as a kid. I do have social anxiety but that is not caused of adhd, besides I have already had it checked at a clinic and I was told I didn't have it.
Thanks for joining the conversation and for your thoughts - let us know if there's anything else you'd like to see from us here at Nip in the Bud
Had cptsd, adhd for 38 years of my life ,,feel liberated after knowing about this after finding my safe space
Thanks for sharing - we appreciate your thoughts - what else would be helpful from the team here?

Wiggling my toe takes my attention just long enough to bring me back to where I need to be and isnt easily noticed by those who might antagonize.
one time i felt sad about wether i have adhd or not and then i got distracted and completely forgot the entire conversation i had in my head

It is common for a highly intelligent child with ADHD to do well enough to go to university and graduate, albeit with a lower grade than they would undoubtedly be capable of if they did not have ADHD.

i'm a 15 y/o normal teen. in my school we have this one particular period when only some of the chosen 9th grade students have to be in pairs and each pair has to lead one group of 7th grade students and share our knowledge, talk with them and perhaps just spend time with them as seniors. in my group, there's this one weird junior who's diagnosed with ADHD, and i've only known this recently. before i knew, i've always wondered why he acts so strange, why he can be very rude at times, why he misbehaves a lot, why he doesn't listen nor pay attention to me whenever i'm talking and why he swears a lot more than me despite the fact that he's two years younger. this behaviour was definitely inexcusable for me at first, but now that i've watched this video, i think it's only right for me to try to empathize with his condition, especially since i am his senior after all.
How are you two doing now?

Sad because i have ADHD and it was never diagnosed as a child i was pushed through the education system
What do you mean?? You never go to school??
Thank you so much for adding your thoughts. That's very tough and is an experience we hear about very often with adults who didn't get early intervention to help them thrive as they deserved. It's really why the founders of Nip in the Bud were set up - to ensure that any child whose brain happens to work differently is empowered with the knowledge about how they work and so do the adults around them (including the education system - which is still very behind in understanding how to support children living neurodiverse lives. Suddenly at maybe 11 years old it all started to snap for me
Everything became boring and it became worse in middle school.

1.don’t always bring up things your obsessed with
2.keep your mouth shut and never interrupt
3.dont make a reference to memes
4.maybe try to focus..
5.sit normally
(This is how I learned how to fit in :(
One thing I observed about this ADHD that I found really strange is, isn't it interesting how ADHD kids can't focus in class but they have no problem focusing for hours on something they love, like video games?

This week’s item is from the Orlando Sentinel, with the headline: 'Mental Health Professionals Battle Mental Disease:' Many mental health professionals, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists and nurses have waged, or are waging their own battles against a mental disease.

Lisa, Thank you for your views. We have shared your comments with the trustees and we would be happy if you would like get in touch with us as we would like to carry on the conversation and hear more of your experience: nipinthebud.org/contact/
the creator is just trying to be informative.
Agree 100%! What’s up with all the ominous music and depressing facts & attitudes towards it? We’re talking about ADHD, not cancer.
It was giving me anxiety while watching this. Bc of the background music
You didn't have anything positive to say to counter this, this video was informative
Unfortunately this shows the limited perspective and understanding of ADHD currently in UK psychiatry and paediatric services. Especially paediatrics who have little practical understanding and often inappropriately withold or withdraw medications.

I got diagnosed with ADHD as child didn't know that i have it now i know how I can help myself.

Like all things in life you need to practice and get better. You can make friends just treat people with the kindness and respect you want in return but don't expect it.

This is the most depressing, negative, and bleak outlook on ADHD that I've ever seen.
Me 💔
Me too
you’re not alone
It's not the case of all children with ADHD some of them they have ability to learn faster than. Normal kids but unfortunately because they are not fluent at speaking and expression them self with clear language they're not accepted 😢😢

Not all children with adhd struggle with work I was over achieving and I still have adhd
I have ADHD so does my brother anyone else? 👇
At Special Strong, we LOVE the special needs population
I have ADHD and i have bad grades in school and my parents say that adhd is caused by drugs
Your parents are wrong. If you have ADHD it's a very natural thing, you just need to find coping skills. I am sorry your parents are not more supportive.

Hi thanks for getting in touch - ADHD is just that some people brains work differently - not worse - just different - (here is a film from Debbie explaining her experience: th-cam.com/video/NzbyzGiY_v0/w-d-xo.html) here are some brilliant resources to find out more about ADHD:

Can adhd kid be intellectual
Absolutely! Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, According to research, Leonardo da Vinci was reported to have had many symptoms of ADHD. The list is pretty endless. Often people with ADHD also have incredible soft skills.

Lots of amazing people have ADHD: Simone Biles, Albert Einstein had ADHD, Jim Carey, Bill Gates, Michael Jordan - so many people with amazing brains. Remember ADHD is just a different way that our brains work - this film is quite heavy so perhaps this other film will be helpful and you could watch it with a trusted adult - its from Debbie who's got an amazing brain, that's just wired differently: nipinthebud.org/films-for-parents-carers/living-with-adhd-debbies-story/
This is also helpful to watch with your carers: nipinthebud.org/films-for-parents-carers/adhd-tips-for-parents-carers/

Children with ADHD can go undiagnosed especially if there is no one to observe or know what signs and symptoms to look out for in a child.
Agree - thanks for your thoughts - we appreciate it!
Please reduce screen time for your kids! Max 30min per day, 1hour in the weekend. This will help a lot to prevent ADHD
Please research first before writing judgemental nonsense.
That's just how not it works
ADHD it's not caused by the screen time, boomer...
I don't know about real ADHD, but I can definetly imagine that access to smartphones would lead to behaviours that would affect children similarly.

This is more for boys not girls. Who behave differently
Thanks for your reply - we are aware that since making this film new information has come to light and we are organizing to address this in the film, particularly in relation to how girls tend to mask more than boys so their symptoms aren't always picked up on. www.nhs.uk/conditions/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder-adhd/symptoms/

It shows also the dark side of ADHD I also have adhd

ADHD is caused by bad parenting. It's not about blame, but understanding that all imbalances in children are the direct result of the emotional condition of the parents and their subsequent pathologies. It is a rare person who is truly qualified and prepared to rear a child.
Aww please shut up ... respectfully
you are incredibly wrong and ignorant. shameful

I have extreme ahdh extremel restleness but still i have managed to be topper in my life always
Parents using marijuana within six weeks of a baby being conceived will also cause ADHD, as well as any other drug.
