    I used to work at Knott’s Berry Farm doing Food Service many years ago, a theme park, in Buena Park, CA. Sometimes I would work the popcorn carts and we used lemon juice to clean the popcorn carts.

    You're not supposed to get the black box on the side of the kettle wet. That is where all the electronic heating components are, not at the end of the cord. That is why it says in the manual not to submerge the kettle in water.

    Thanks for the video! We recently ended up in possession of the exact same machine. Except the one we got was in quite the state of neglect (but hey, can't beat free!). We had to use degreasers and other stronger cleaners. I did opt for the all natural stuff, but still not too worried, as commercial kitchens use degreaser all the time, and it will be a while before we use the machine (we are working towards a move soon). Your video was helpful in seeing which parts we could remove, and will be a nice reference in the future, as we plan on keeping up with the cleaning on it, unlike the previous owners.

    I have a much smaller machine coming tomorrow and I'm glad to know it's not going to be as much of a bear to clean as I thought. Bit of a silly purchase considering I already have a whirley pop which does just about the same thing but popcorn machines are so very charming.

    You can use ammonia free window cleaner it's safer is what I use on my olde Midway popcorn machine 🍿 is harmless. I try using dish washing soap and water it's just to blurry. Once a month I lubricated the top spinning motor so that the spinning motor will last alot longer. Because if you don't lubricated the spinning gear will wear out this will saves you money on replacement.

    Just put 8oz of hot water into the kettle and turn on its heating element. Let it steam for 10 to 15 minutes and then carefully wipe everything down. No fuss no chemicals. You can also use a steam cleaner if you have one.

      Once the steam does its thing, add a few paper towels to the kettle, turn the stirring arms on (whatever they are called) let the paper towels run around in there and clean. Remove paper towels add more water and paper towels for final clean.

    I know the video was made sometime ago but my machine doesn't have the plate in the bottom to let unpopped kernels pass through they just stay with the rest of the popcorn so when you scoop your popcorn your also picking up some kernels.. I've thought about making some kind of makeshift wire to let kernels go through. Don't know if it will work. 🤷‍♀️

    • @HappyHauteHome
      @HappyHauteHome  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an idea. I would just make sure the wire is ok to handle heat and doesn't have any chemicals that could interact with the the popcorn.

      You do not need to clean it every time....we use ours a couple times a week...clean it only when the glass starts getting a lot of oil on it. We do use a shop vac to suck out the kernels pretty often, and do wipe out the inside with paper towels, but u don't need to use soap/water every time. I would say like a few times a year break it down for a good cleaning.

    • @jamieinla1
      @jamieinla1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Boiling water in the kettle and wiping down all interior surfaces will prevent buildup of grease; soap or chemicals not needed. Although not required, it is best practice. Don't immerse or wash the kettle in running water; the electrical parts between the inside and outside are NOT waterproof, and neither is the seal. You can take it apart pretty easily and see for yourself. Nooks and crannies get a buildup of grease and will need more effort to clean.

    NEVER NEVER NEVER! USE SOAP AND WATER TO CLEAN THE KETTLE. JUST WIPE WITH A PAPER TOWEL. The kettle is supposed to be seasoned. For best flavor and results do not wash with soap and water.

    • @HappyHauteHome
      @HappyHauteHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Um....maybe for additional flavor you don't recommend using soap and water but for cleanliness you definitely should! I stand behind my original statement of using soap and water to clean the machine.....all.....day.....long.....period!
