Great video, and excellent information. This must be a 4 ounce popcorn popper, since ½ cup of raw popcorn went into the kettle. The nice lady hosting this video is 100 percent correct on how to use a popcorn popper of this size. My popcorn popper is an 8 ounce, and I use 1 cup popcorn, ⅓ cup oil, and 1 teaspoon of FLAVACOL popcorn seasoning per batch. One very important thing to remember is to NEVER double the amount of raw popcorn and oil, nor should you cut the amounts in half; the popcorn popper is specifically designed to work its very best when you use the recommended amounts of raw popcorn seeds, oil, and flavoring, if any. Most people don't know this about popcorn equipment like in this video. In such cases, read the instructions that came with the popper, or get instruction from someone that knows how to properly and safely use the popcorn equipment. It's very simple to make great popcorn in any size kettle, just be sure you know the poppers kettle capacity. For example, in a 24 ounce popcorn popper, use 3 cups of raw popcorn, 1 cup popping oil, and 1 heaping tablespoon of FLAVACOL popcorn seasoning per batch. This is the same ratio, proportion, or percentage of popping oil and FLAVACOL sesasoning as was used in this video.

Hello, I bought the Betty Crocker movie nite popcorn maker. Really nice looking. I followed your instructions, I got the butter and salt. Taste is amazing, taste like movie theater you were right. However I’m having issue with the machine itself. I put just a small spoon (the one that come with the machine) of kernel. The popcorn pop but after few seconds popcorn get jammed in the kettle… and start burning so I have to turn off the machine. Did you ever got that problem with your machine? It’s pretty annoying cause the taste is amazing. But I can’t never make a large sac of popcorn for that reason :(
Hi Steve, no I haven't had that problem. Did you put oil in the kettle first and let it heat up? Not sure about the jamming issue... Glad you like the recipe! Thanks for watching.
Hi, yea I really followed same steps, about 2 spoon of oil, waited about few sec then put kernel. Really odd. I can’t imagine if I would put more kernels lolll anyway thanks a lot for your reply ;)
Yes. I had this same popcorn machine on our farm growing up haha. I absolutely loved that little wonder of the world. Makes for some good healthy kernels.
I worked at theaters in the 80's to the late 90's and I do remember the coconut oil being orange. The way I make my own is to mix 15g of virgin cold pressed red fruit palm oil (which gives it the beta carotene color) with 40g of virgin cold pressed coconut oil. The salt can be done much cheaper if you just take regular salt and run it in a spice or coffee grinder. It's the same process used to make flavacol. Or you can use the "extra fine" powdered salt from Kroger/Ralphs from their "private collection" brand, which sticks to the popcorn pretty much the same way. I find this to be much more like movie popcorn back in the day before they switched their methods in the early 2000's to be more "healthy." I was unaware of this buttery coconut oil. I might give that a try. Thanks.
I want to try this on a camp fire or similar outdoor activity...I have seen the actual main ingredients like you have shown...but have you, might I ask, actually done this on a pot and on top of the stove to see if it still works...or is there an advantage of an actual popcorn pot...like yours here that makes the difference? I'm serious here because I cook on a campfire type of outdoors cooking station...and am a serious inquirer...lol.
Hi, no I have not tried the recipe on a stove or campfire. But I would think that if you use the same ingredients, the popcorn would come out similar in taste. If I were you, I would try it on the stove first then a campfire. Let me know if it works!
My favorite alltime popcorn machine! Where can I purchase one of these and how much do they cost approximately? Can you use either margarine or regular butter instead of that coconut oil that you demonstrated if preferred? If so, will it have that same traditional buttery taste?

great video and thanks for making it but are you sure that was only 1/4 a tsp of the salt? That just looks more like a 1/2 tsp. Just want to be sure before I do this because once its in there its too late....Thankyou
In the video I used 1/4 tsp but I have also put in as much as 1 full teaspoon for added flavor, so you can adjust as necessary for your taste but if you're worried I would start with 1/4 tsp.
Without a popcorn machine, just melting a little butter+oliveoil with a tiny amount of flavacol is a great thing to spread onto your popcorn before shaking it in a container.
@@HappyHauteHome It won't be movie theatre level but it turns out delicious if using an air popper or stove+pot. Just make sure to adjust for saltiness and how you spread it so some of your bites aren't too overpowering. I usually use an air popper and try to spread the butter and stuff along the edge around the bowl with a little bit on top before shaking with a cover.
I let mine sit in the machine with the heating elements for 20-30 minutes, minimum. Much more crunchy. When I didn't have a popper, I'd stick them in the oven at 200 degrees.
Great Northern sells what they call tri-packs that includes buttery oil, kernels and Flavacol. Although considering the cost I imagine this may be cheaper. A big carton of Flavacol is like $10.00
The first time you do it, try it with the 4oz recipe and see how it turns out. When you are comfortable with the process then you can adjust to your size kettle.
@@HappyHauteHome Thx. I'm going to make a note of your recipe and use the 1/2 c popcorn. I will adjust according to the number of people eating it at my house. lol
Have you ever tried popping the corn using only the at the movies pop corn brand topping oil that you show in your video? I know people who claim that using only that oil the popcorn has an incredible flavor, even better than using coconut oil, and it makes sense to me, since that topping oil also has beta carotene to give it color and flavor on its own.
@@HappyHauteHome Please try it and tell me the results or make a new video doing it, I don't live in North America, but in my country we have Cinemark, and the popcorn there is extremely addictive, it's my favorite, of course they use flavacol, but I don't think so that is the only key to its flavor, I am sure they not use coconut oil, I have been trying to recreate that flavor since 2019, I have used different brands of butter flavored coconut oil, including the one you have in your video dutchman's and of course the great flavacol and yes, the popcorn tastes good but not as good as cinemark, i don't know exactly what oil they use there, i also tried the butter flavored canola oil and it was the worst thing that I have tried in my life, I begin to suspect that they use the topping oil both to pop the popcorn and to have that special flavor together with flavacol of course.
The Flavacol is the real secret ingredient. Theatres don't typically use coconut oil, however, because it's too expense. Peanut and canola are more common, although coconut is probably the healthy choice. At home, I've used olive oil, too, but coconut pops better. Where theatre popcorn is especially unhealthy, however, is the "butter flavored" OIL they use for topping. Bad stuff. Good quality kernels, the correct measurement of oil and salt, and proper temperatures and timing can give you BETTER popcorn than what you get at theatres.
Why is it that when I pop popcorn in the machine it comes out tasting stale. And I just bought the kernels too. Could it be that the popcorn has been sitting on the shelf too long?? Thanks for the video btw.
The popcorn may not taste like theater popcorn using a microwave method, but if that's not a concern I would give it a try, Let me know how it turns out.
My screen is hard to see, what brand and size is this popper? Do you like it or would you get a different size? It is just my husband and I, so I’m not sure if we need the 2.5 or 4 oz. (when we eat popcorn we eat two microwave bags worth)
This is a Waring Pro. You can get a less expensive one in the link I attached, it's a generic brand but looks just as nice. It pops 6 ounces of popcorn and can make 2 gallons per batch. Plenty for 2 people.
I've added as much as 1 tsp to the mix and it's delicious. Depends on each person's taste but I feel the butter adds a completely different taste to the popcorn.
huh- never realized i do exactly what the theaters do already. though- i use the Amish Country brand rather than Flavacol, it's still the same process. i also use *more* of it than theaters do apparently
The kettle (pot that the popcorn is cooked in) should be appropriately sized for your batch. The type of popcorn you use can affect the taste of your batch yes. Kettle corn is a different flavor of popcorn and a different recipe. If you are interested in that recipe, check out my kettle corn video. Hope that helps.
@@HappyHauteHome thanks for replying to my message I love you guys for your videos on making popcorn my friend managed to get me the coconut oil I can't wait to get my popping machine. I wish I had a home theater that's next on my birthday list 😁👍

My local grocery store carries the Butter Topping. It's basically a Popping and Topping oil that is primarily soybean oil. But I know the true popping oil that is used is a beta-carotene coconut oil. So my question is what do movie theaters use when you add butter? Has it been this topping /soybean oil the whole time and not actual butter?
Apparently, they're using a form of clarified butter. Someone mentioned working at a theater and using a product called lactantia, but it's only sold in Canada.
Is it the same amount of the ingredients for each 1 half cup of Kernels? And if so, can you double the amount in the hot pot so you can get twice as much popcorn? 🍿
I do it your way with the same incredients. But if i do the first 250gr. the taste is nearly perfect but the pops are not gold/yellow. The second portion the color of the pops is like yours. What I´m doing wrong?

Have you ever tried popping the corn using only the at the movies pop corn brand topping oil that you show in your video? I know people who claim that using only that oil the popcorn has an incredible flavor, even better than using coconut oil, and it makes sense to me, since that topping oil also has beta carotene to give it color and flavor on its own.
Good idea, I'll have to try that.
Absolutely! Good quality popcorn is essential for this recipe and of course the salt!
I suffered watching this because I wanted some SO BADLYYY. thanks for the upload
It is soo good, especially with the secret ingredient added! Just like the real deal :)
Why is it that when I pop popcorn in the machine it comes out tasting stale. And I just bought the kernels too. Could it be that the popcorn has been sitting on the shelf too long?? Thanks for the video btw.
You'r welcome! That is possible. Did you check the use by date on the popcorn container?
Great info. And thanks for the links, learned a lot for our show, thanks!
You're very welcome. Glad you found it useful!
In that type of popper it will not cause problems or burn if you put it in right away because of the lid
thank you
Will it work using a pot on the stove?
I believe so, if you try it, lmk how it turns out.
This is really awesome thanks! I'm gonna have to buy some new stuff 😆
Well worth the investment, you'll have a great ROI!
Will this work in a microwave popcorn container I have which has a lid and pops the corn. In the microwave?
The popcorn may not taste like theater popcorn using a microwave method, but if that's not a concern I would give it a try, Let me know how it turns out.
@@HappyHauteHomeYeah I’m aiming for cinema Popcorn taste, will let you know cheers
How difficult is it to clean that machine?
It seems difficult the first few times, as it takes a while but not bad after that once you get used to it.
@@HappyHauteHome Okay, thank you.
My kettle is 12/14oz. Which is a little larger than yours. Would you increase the measurement of the ingredients?
Probably so if you want to make a bigger batch.
You made a very helpful video
So glad it helped you, thank you for commenting.
Definitely trying it!
So glad to hear that! Enjoy! LMK what you think.
This is great! I can't wait to try this!
Let me know what you think!
Nice. Thanks
You are very welcome!
Can I still use this method on the stove in a pot?
I haven't tried it on the stove but yes I would imagine so.
Happy you made this video thanks!
You are very welcome
How often do you reccomend cleaning your machine?
If I use the machine sparingly, I clean it after each use. When I use it more often, I clean is less...if that makes sense.
Happy Haute Home I’m. I think it does. lol
You don't need buttery flavored oil if you use a little more Flavacol. I use 1/2 to 3/4 Tablespoon
I've added as much as 1 tsp to the mix and it's delicious. Depends on each person's taste but I feel the butter adds a completely different taste to the popcorn.
@@HappyHauteHome We do add butter afterwards as well.
huh- never realized i do exactly what the theaters do already. though- i use the Amish Country brand rather than Flavacol, it's still the same process. i also use *more* of it than theaters do apparently
Nice...I bet your popcorn is delish!
do u dumo everything in the popper at the same time? I'm getting ready to order machine and ingredients on amazon.
No, put the oil in first and wait for it to heat up. I go over all that in the video.
How come you don't add sugar to it?
Will it be sweet?
It doesn't need sugar. If you are looking for a sweeter taste, check out my other video for kettle corn.
Hi!
Which brand is that machine? Regards
Hi, I have a Waring but it has become quite expensive. I linked a less expensive option in my notes up top. thanks for stopping by.
Is this sweet or salt popcorn?
This is salt popcorn. If you are looking for sweet, such as Kettle popcorn, check out my other video on Kettle Corn
thank you
is the kettles really that important? kettle corn is all the same no? it looks the same to me...someone answer me
The kettle (pot that the popcorn is cooked in) should be appropriately sized for your batch. The type of popcorn you use can affect the taste of your batch yes. Kettle corn is a different flavor of popcorn and a different recipe. If you are interested in that recipe, check out my kettle corn video. Hope that helps.
Thank you so much I’m buying one for the kids at church god bless you jesus loves you
These machines are great for large gatherings and commercial events.
Thanks you
You are very welcome
Does it taste like the theaters
It certainly does, but you should try it for yourself and judge.
I am too lazy so I just use the premix packets "Great Northern" and the 4oz size fits my Whirley Pop popper perfectly.
I have used those as well and they work fine. Nice to have everything pre measured.
Yeaaaahhh!! Thanks amigo!! 👍🏾
You are very welcome
Thanks for video I live in uk it's hard to get buttery coconut oil not been able to get from amazon
Hi David, that's too bad! Have you tried your local grocery store, maybe they have something similar.
@@HappyHauteHome thanks for replying to my message I love you guys for your videos on making popcorn my friend managed to get me the coconut oil I can't wait to get my popping machine. I wish I had a home theater that's next on my birthday list 😁👍
@@davidharrison9111 That's wonderful news David! You must be so excited! Not gonna lie, having a theater is super fun and cool. We use it a lot! The kids play games with their friend, my husband loves it for fight night and it's a great spot for family movies too.
love the video now you make me want some popcorn :)
Glad you like it! We love the machine and love the popcorn!
if you think thats good, next time purchase the 'premier' version of flavacol - you can then skip the adding additional buttery goodness :)
Oh wow, will have to try that thanks.
How do I get this popcorn machine? I want to buy it
Check out the link in the description of this video.
Good question. My guess is that they are using butter of some sort but can't say for certain what is included.
Apparently, they're using a form of clarified butter. Someone mentioned working at a theater and using a product called lactantia, but it's only sold in Canada.
Ma'am plz can you NAME ALL THE PRODUCTS YOU USED HERE. TY
Yes, they are all linked above!
Is it the same amount of the ingredients for each 1 half cup of Kernels? And if so, can you double the amount in the hot pot so you can get twice as much popcorn? 🍿
Yes, you can double the ingredients to get twice as much.
I do it your way with the same incredients. But if i do the first 250gr. the taste is nearly perfect but the pops are not gold/yellow. The second portion the color of the pops is like yours. What I´m doing wrong?
Are you using the beta carotene? Are you letting the kettle heat up? They should be the same if you are following the procedures.
Yes for sure. Heating it up about 5-10‘ with the coconut fat with carotine. After this I add the flavacol and put in the corns.
@@maluc Perhaps its the type of popcorn you are using. Best to use high quality popcorn for the best results.
@@HappyHauteHome I tried several types now. No chance to get the first load yellow. Don´t know what I´m doing wrong.
@@maluc The color doesn't affect the taste, so I wouldn't worry about it.
How much is that machine? Thank you
The machine and the cart together are less than $300. Thanks for watching!
How would you do sweet popcorn?
Hi, I would use one of the seasoning jars like caramel corn to sweeten the popcorn.
Thank youuuuuu so muchhhhhh
You are very welcome!
