Also, I must compliment you on your presentation of the game mechanics. I've been playing FM since Championship Manager 4, and it is so easy to get stuck in the good old days, keep doing things how they used to be done and not keeping up to date. But your videos and insights are really helpful and help me prevent this from happening and unlike some of the other FM content creators, you don't make me feel like being back at school while listening to you. And I also love the fact that you seem to remember (just my assumption but it looks like that) that after all it is just a game with it's flaws and sometimes blind luck negates all the hard work we players put into fielding the strongest side possible - you know, the keyboard-shattering moments. Keep up the good work.
I'd always prefer to buy or sign a player permanently over a loan player. The problem with loan players is, they may become your star for one season, you build your whole team and tactic around him, and suddenly he's just gone, and you earn nothing on the performances he put in. If I sign a loan player, I always make sure to get a buy-out clause or that his contract expires the following year, so I can free-transfer sign him, if he performs well. Already there, Souichi has an advantage for me.
Woow. Before watching I thought, 19 minutes that's too long for me. Currently 16 minutes in! 😄 You did a great job on the video 🍿🥂 Learnt a lot and I've been playing since FM12 😄
I actually had a player who didn't enjoy big matches score the only goal in the Europa league final for me, and then the next year score in the match that won me the league. Sometimes good players just be good even if they don't be as good in big matches.
FM at the end of the day is a spreadsheet simulator and this is just another factor that lowers some of the player's attributes. But with so many variables on hand, you might have someone with a great personality, very determined, very consistent who's on a good form and that might make up for this trait. But these are exceptions which are rare. In general you don't want players with this personality trait because it's another factor that works against you and it's quite hard to manage.
Injury proneness is the biggest turn off for me. Important matches and consistency are decent guidelines, but not a "go-to" stats. Just make sure your captain is on level with those two.
U can manage injury pron players by making them train less and rotating them more often For me inconsistent and/or dreads big match is a bigger turn odf
Injury proneness is weird. An injury prone prone player (deep red as well) I had played every league game and only missed two in Europe for multiple seasons and never ended up with a major injury. Did get a lot of tight groins thoughs.
It depends. I have a player that is considered by the game as inconsistent, but he is really consistent. I also have a player that is considered as inconsistent, and he is really inconsistent. The worst in my experience is 40% awful matches.
It mainly affects his technical ability. A striker that is mostly pace with low technical ability will still be fairly consistent, especially in lower levels regardless of his consistency attribute. If the guy creates 10 chances with physicals but only ever hits the target 3 times per game he can't really drop off much. A striker that you rely on to pass and create chances for others, or that gets 5 chances by dribbling and hits the target 4 times would see a huge difference in performance if he had low consistency on a regular basis. Adaptability affects things like playing in the rain, playing on bad pitches etc as well. Poor technique vs. good technique means that a player with 15 tackling will win the ball a lot but rarely control it after and give away a lot more fouls (and penalties.) Højbjerg has great technical rating in FM because he's so good at taking the ball cleanly, but Man City's Kyle Walker has relatively poor technical rating and lower consistency because he's always got a clumsy challenge him. Every attribute is important but no single attribute can carry a player and some can completely cripple a player. 100% agree with Zealands big match one as an example, it took me nearly 10 years once to dump my keeper because I kept losing big finals despite running away with the league (didn't have the info that he was bad in big matches on my club reports) finally rage sold him and bought a different keeper and coasted the champions league etc. My old Keeper had the dreads big matches on his report as soon as I sold him.
@@filtersc u should check different coaches reports happened to me a lot of times my main report showed a player as neither and other coaches say he's inconsistent/dreads big matches
I think this will help a lot of people coming from FIFA who will use the star rating as a substitute for the overall rating, the stars are just that persons opinion and nobodies opinion matters more than your own in FM lol
All you needed to see is Acceleration, Pace, Stamina-Work rate and Anticipation, these are most important in FM engine, and the right player is much better in these.
I think a lot of the report pros/cons should be taken with a pinch of salt. Some of my best performing and most reliable players have been 'inconsistent'. Equally I have a few players who have green consistency yet they're so inconsistent for me. It's also possible to coach/mentor the bad stuff out of them. I don't sign players with those negatives if I can avoid it but sometimes they appear afterwards and I just deal with it if I believe in the player enough. I might rather have a 4* player who is inconsistent than a 3* who is consistent because the 4* one has a higher ceiling if you can coach them well enough. I have multiple players in my save who developed 'dislikes big matches' in a short space of time. Like players who I had won multiple leagues with suddenly developed a fear of big games. I think it was when I went through a rough period and got lost a few big games in a row in a short space of time. Even though I've won trophies since then, it's not gone away. I don't find it that accurate though. I think there's a lot of confirmation bias to it.

Yo Zealand, you should think about doing a video for people managing high profile teams with high profile players about how "meta" tactics aren't that helpful and how too many instructions can be poison. I've spoken to a few people who've sabotaged successful runs by switching to "meta" tactics because they end up suffocating elite level players with too many instructions. Example, when you have elite defenders sometimes it's best to let them decide when to stay on feet and when to get stuck in. No instruction for counter attacks is great for elite midfielders who can choose when it's appropriate to slow down the play and when it's appropriate to send a forward on a run. I think some folks would benefit from you explaining that certain instructions involving passage of play, crossing type and earliness, and whether or not to be more expressive are more helpful/useful to elite squads than other instructions which sometimes only serve to make world class players more one dimensional. Also roles; depending on the fullbacks you have in your team 'complete wingback' might be more meta than 'inverted wingback', same with the attacking wide players, you might do better with 'inside forwards' than 'wingers' especially if you're managing a team like Liverpool. I'd tell them myself, but they'd rather listen to you.
I hate star ratings. They can change in a matter of weeks with form etc. I rarely if ever use them, other than for a very basic screening of players. My last save on fm20 before ditching to start playing 21, was Newcastle. After finishing 14th in the first season, I finished 3rd in the second using statistical analysis for Recruitment. We went from having the 3rd worst defense to second best after using stats to recruit a GK and CB. Also Allain Saint Maximin is an absolute beast and potentially the best player on that game when coached and developed properly. In season 2 he was 3rd in PL goalscorers with 19, 25 in all comps and 16 assists. He was rated 5 stars by my coaches, after starting the game on 2.5 (hence why I hate star ratings) and was subject to 60 million + bids from about 6 top European clubs.
I don;t think full-backs absolutely have to be quick. They can still be a decent full-back if they don;t go forward much and the team defends quite deep. In which case, positioning, concentration, decisions need to be decent. I always want a full-back who can tackle as well
I used to have a counter tactics based on defensive fullbacks. They didn't quick, but they had vision, decision, and passing. I just love their counter attack passings a cross the field passing out my midfielders 😂
But what is consistancy based on? I mean is it the scout reports last few games, their mental attributes or because the player is being retrained for a new position? I needed this video even thou I do most of what zealand says. The amount of time I spent on pre season money balling new signings is ridiculous and I always ends up signing about 10% of new players on a whim
Consistency is an attribute. Just like pace or finishing, but its just hidden. You can't see it in the attributes screen and it only comes up in scout reports.
Hmmm ... Perhaps i have not played LLM for a looong time, but basically a 4.5*/5* player is going to be GOOD, esp if one takes the time to set up the staff (coaching/scouting) right. Likely they scout and recommend based on your formation, etc too. Also, personal experience is that Uncomfortable-in-big-matches and Fairly Inconsistent and low Adaptability is also fine, as long as the player is a really really good (read - 4*/5*) one. What i'd used instead (since the CM days) are the avg ratings, esp from the same level-type of leagues. A player with a high avg ratings should have those good Big Match/Consistent/Adaptable attributes anyway, no? 😁
The 2 things I always check out first on any player, Determination and Work Rate. If they haven't got good ones I don't bother no matter how technical they are.
