You are absolutely spot on. I used Windows for 10 years then MacOS for 6 years both for graphic design. The time I have spent on troubleshooting, crashes and reinstalls has gone from a couple of days a month down to almost zero. Reliability and stability is worth more than anything to a pro.
Apple achieves that "reliability" by limiting what you can do and what you can configure. Everything is "simplified" or dumbed down. The more basic you can make something to more stable it will be.
your statement is actually incorrect. you are not limited in what you can do. you are limited in what you could mistakenly change or what wrong configuration you may have. Whenever you purchase a SW for mac you will never experience it running "slow" or incompatible to your hardware. I literally hated the word "mac" for over 20 years until in 2013 I had need to back up my windows PC on an external drive but was not possible with my windows7 home edition license. Was requested to buy a windows ultimate (that is a real limitation to what you can do) but win7 was out of the market already, win8 was released... so because of this limitation i decided instead of throwing away 250 USd into a OS that was a piece of junk decided to change system in total and go to the iMac 27 2013... since then i later upgraded to the 5k model 2015, i changed laptop to a macbook pro and have windows on a partition of disk for those SW that do not exist for mac. Guess what? windows on Mac works way better than on any PC i had before (maybe because of drivers control via bootcamp?). It costs more but the way less issues I experience everyday in being just a regular user. Just do not waste time anymore.
I am not a Mac hater, I actually like Mac's quite a bit. My major complaint with Apple is the use of older slower hardware, very simple electronics and yet has the price tag of a Mercedes. You are not buying cutting edge technology... you are buying a logo. Gucci PC...
Jade Rogue you are buying a computer that works, and will last years and years. I just sold my base model, 2007, plastic MacBook for $200. It was still running, and last time I saw the buyer, he had no complaints. There is t a base model windows laptop from 10 years ago that would still be running AND sell for $200.
Jade Rogue huh? They are using Kaby lake CPU’s, insanely fast NVMe storage, literally one of the best screens money can buy and thunderbolt 3... all somehow crammed into one of the thinnest and most elegant enclosures ever designed. The price of the iMacs are unusually fair given the hardware inside...even the much more powerful iMac pro.
I really enjoyed this conversation. I've seen lot of review and read a lot about the new model but your down to earth style of explaining why you bought it pushed me over the top, thanks!
Finally a review which doesn't consist of only benchmarks, comparisons and fancy pan shots! I have the 2012 27" iMac and consider to upgrade, mostly for the display. Still not sure though.. My machine is upgraded to max and still gets the job done without hesitation.
I also think that, if you can, this is a really good (time to) upgrade! It's so fast, the only thing i would suggest is going with an SSD instead of the fusion drive. But it all depends on the work you do of course :-)
I picked up my 2017 27" from a local Mac shop last week for $1699. All I can say is Apple's back. Best computer I've ever owned and can't recommend enough.
Student pricing puts this base model at $1,699.00. Well worth it for the Kaby Lake processor and 5K screen. MacOS I feel is far superior to anything else out there.
Matheau Michalak I was also looking to get the base model (with 256GB SSD) with education price. I looked up individual component prices on amazon etc and the iMac is actually quite a good value. Especially if you bought the components and a 4K display together, the iMac would only be few hundred pounds more expensive..! And the iMac is 5K, I didnt include a case, power supply, cooler etc in the components. So its really good value. Still expensive though, but I feel like I will probably pretty likely get an iMac soon...
Spot on dude, My last Apple Computer was way back more than 30 years ago with the Apple IIe, then I switch to PC from DOS to Window 10, seen everything on it. Yesterday I bought the 2017 27 IMac - looking at the specs it is hard to beat and a real value for my buck. I do alot of video editing on the PC, just purchased Final Cut Pro X. Will be installing it later today... Never dream I would go back to Apple after so long on the PC, but I did... and the fun is just about to begin... thanks.
I purchased my first apple computer, an iMac, back in 2007, when they first launched the aluminum iMacs. I've gone nearly ten years before upgrading, I limped along on a MacBook Air for a while, but this was the first time an update has come that actually inspired me to upgrade. I ended up fully loading it with the highest specs just to Guaranty some longevity, but it truly feels powerful.
Jordan Steffen My God, I thought I was the only one. It's hard to justify upgrading from my old iMac that works perfectly, but the 4K, now 5K screens with a serious video card is burning up my wallet. I know my days are numbered as macOS ages, and I've capped the hardware long ago, bringing in a SSD breathed new life into my baby. There is just something sentimental about ye old mac, all of my children grew up using it. I may take the plunge as well. Enjoy!
"They just work" this is the reason I haven’t a used a pc in over a decade. Pc are great machines, when you think about the endless combinations it’s really an awesome experience. IF you’re a big tech head that is. See I can’t tell you what the best bench mark score is, the best GPU/CPU, nor do I care. The honest truth, neither can 70-90% that own a computer, it’s the reason why we shop at bestbuy. I own a 2008 Mac Pro an iMac because they just work. Now, I have to replace them because not only are they showing their age, what I do simply requires more power. My wife thinks the 24’ iMac is great, for typing documents an emails, so now it’s her’s and the pc is starting get dusty. Now, this base model iMac is more than I will every need for the next decade and that’s the key. For the small few it’s inadequate, but I’m not getting the 2017 model for everyone else, just me. And for what it is, I can tell you I will not use 1/2 of it abilities, or max it out. It’s based on my needs and apple has "just worked" so I can get on with my day.
I just bought a custom 27” iMac with an i7 today from Apple. I’m looking forward to it arriving soon. This is my first new Mac since my 2011 MacBook Pro.
Hi, I moved away from PC to iMacs in 2011 when my Windows machine died yet another time, mid recovery causing loss of tons of my photos and memories. I then said that is it and invested and it seemed like a lot of money. I spent around £800 for 21.5 inch base model (that is after the student discount). It has been now exactly 6 years I am due to an upgrade and I must say that in those 6 years I haven't had a single problem with my Mac machine. It still works perfectly fine, i use it with Adobe CC to work on small and large projects. I will be able to resell it for £300 averaging around £10 per month for the whole period i used it for. Honestly I don't think that anyone can give you a better deal on a computer than Apple!
This is incredible. I have a new iMac 27 inch for a few weeks now and I am recently have been playing Alien Isolation on it at 1440p 60fps (which Is amazing considering it is a Mac) and I come here to see a video about my IMac (even though I own it already I should stop the research...anyway). So I play your video and its the sound from Alien Isolation!!!!!!. Its As if this video was created for me! What a coincidence.
You wont believe this yesterday on fourth of July I was browsing through offer up and I found this exact model barely used for 1200. And I talked him down to 800
You almost have the same reasons for why I'm switching to MacOSX, there's a huge difference doing a work on Mac verses PC, I've noticed a lot of terrible things with Windows such as routine windows updates that interfere with my work killing my laptop battery and wasting my time. I switched to a MacBook Pro 15 inch kabylake with touchbar and I'm so happy that I did.
You completely hit the nail on the head for your reasons for choosing the iMac. People talk about their costs or lack of upgradability, but there’s so much more to it than that. I still use my 2011 iMac over my newer, more powerful Windows PC for my photo editing, for all the reason you stated.
I just picked this exact model up the other day and I'm so thrilled with it. Runs tons of effects and tracks on logic pro as well as games like GTA 5 in 1440p at 60fps steady. I'm happy overall with the value I'm getting out of it.
The best thing about a mac is OSX. It is the operating system that rocks. I bought the top spec 27" iMac 3 years ago. It is plenty fast enough to process my image files from my Nikon D800. The specs on mine are probably tops your. I have an i7 with 32 GB of RAM, 4GB video and 3TB fusion drive.
what video card exactly? and fusion drives aren't the best options.. I only went with one because I didnt want to special order it. This base 2017 27in has a 5k display, amd 570 4gb card, kaby lake i5 up to 3.4ghz, and 8gb ddr4 ram, with thunderbolt 3 type-c.. but heres the deal, the ram is upgradable to 64gb, and tbh, even in a pc machine, I find i7's just not necessary. It helps but you're also on last generation intel architecture with ddr3 and etc.. The Kaby lake I5's are really really nice. and besides all of the specs in general, this entire package is 1699 with a student ID.. so the value is insane.
Really appreciate this down to earth summary of your experience. All those "Unboxing" reviews don't help at all...I can read a spec sheet. You're explanation of the experience and the utility you are getting from the product helped a lot. We seem like similar types of users, and I was looking at a higher spec'ed model - this helped a ton!
I bought my first Apple computer this last weekend. The 2016 Macbook pro w/o touch bar and an upgraded SSD. So far its been one of the best Laptops I have ever owned. I finally understand why people love apple products. I have previously only had Ipods, and a brief few months with an Iphone 4s, I still will use my Custom build Gaming PC, for gaming and some writing, but I think Apple is winning me over....cant believe I am saying that, but its true. I just wish the Imacs were a bit cheaper, and that gaming on a mac wasn't some sinister thing that apple doesn't want you do to.
Just ordered one... Under 1700 bucks. Was considering I get a top notch model of the 2019 line.. But I'm glad I cached myself. Don't need it for only browsing and linght photography.. Thanks for your straight to the point of a normal person couse with all the tech talk I get dissy after a while.. Salute from Germany
I used a macbook pro every day for 7 years with almost no troubleshooting required. It just worked. The hardware started breaking down after about 4-5 years and I wanted some more power so it was time to upgrade to a 15 inch a few years after that. When Apple released their late 2016 line-up I was ready with my wallet. But the price increase was just too much so I eventually decided to buy the PC eqvivalent (Dell XPS 15). It seemed to promise more impressive power, a 4k screen and the ability to upgrade components, all for 2 thirds the money. But it's a decision I would come to regret. Endless troubleshooting has been my life since and now I just want to go back to Mac OS but with an Imac 27 inch this time. What I thought I saved in money up front, I paid for dearly in time, effort and potential income. I thought Windows had become stable in the 7 years I didn't use it. Not true. The blue screens are still there and the endless errors and lags etc. Just hopeless. Apple often charges crazy prices that is true, but if you make money being productive on a computer, they will save you a lot of headaches and lost income in the long run.
Switching from PC (as I am getting old to play hardcore games), I got 27" i7 iMac and yes I agree with you and I am highly satisfied with it too. Paid ~$2,300 after tax (thru company discount). I also thought I paid a lot, but considering the 5K monitor it is very reasonable priced. I no longer print PDF files to read as the screen is so sharp and bright! It is far better than a paper copy and easier to read.
You're the first person on TH-cam I've seen use an iMac for what (I believe) they were made for: Music! Thank you. It's like everyone else just forgets about music. When comparing computers they always talk about movie editing or gaming. I am a lyricist in hope to become a musician/artist/singer/songwriter/producer and I absolutely love the work, of what an Apple product can do in making music. Final Cut Pro here Final Cut Pro there. Where's the Logic Pro X love :l Hope you continue making amazing music.
I'm definitely getting this mac for what I'm going to do. I'm just doing 4k video editing and the imac pro would be over kill. Will probably upgrade and get the i7 chip and the 1tb ssd drive. Will get ram else where and I think I will have a great machine for the next 5 years.
2 years late, but actually not, cuz I wanna buy this iMac now and you helped alot with this informations and honest opinions. great video, thank you sir! :)
I just bought a 13" macbook pro with touchbar and 16Gb of ram, seeing this beauty coming close to the same price is a bit sour, but then again I'm a student who needs a portable machine... Really liked the review btw!!
I recently sold my Mac Pro (12c/24T 64GB 512SSD 2 x D700 graphics) and purchased the IMac 2017 (i7 4.2Ghz 512SSD 64GB RX580 Pro) and my God what an improvement, for lightroom and photoshop it is worlds faster, may be even twice as fast, I still have a 2015 Mac Book pro for mobile (i7 2.8Ghz 16GB 512SSD AMD395x) which is also very fast, but the new 2017 Kaby Lake model is the business. Like you have experienced, it has increased my productivity by around 30% which is amazing, especially when you consider that I sold my Mac Pro for £4000 and paid £2700 for the IMac. So I am with you, one very well made machine, fast and as you say the screen is simply perfection !
I’ve noticed an increase in my creative work since I got one of these. I guess it’s the ease of use in GarageBand, Pages, and just in general or maybe just because it’s so fun to use. Glad to see someone else had the same experience cause I thought maybe I was deluding myself with apple branding
You have solidified my choice to get the high end iMac 27 inch with Radeon Pro 580 with 8 GB of ramm & a solid state drive for faster performance. Thanks for the video!
Have a question... would I be better off buying the 2017 iMac 27” with the 1tb fusion or the 2 tb fusion... I know that the 1tb has only 24gb I’d ssd storage and the 2tb has 128gb of ssd storage... I only do a little bit of photo editing and I hardly do any video editing... I will post another comment with the 2 different machines I’m interested in... just want to know which one you would recommend ... price difference is $300
I have been using apple mini for a few years and use it also. I Have used a high spec cheese grater with a high spec for while For my video editing That Ido every day I was undecided what buy next to improve my editing I eventually decided on th e apple I mac I am over the moon with this apple like you I can't believe the difference in speed The rendering. Is faster than the other macs I have used. I am chuffed to little naffi. breaks The lwelve core with my sapphire 580 cheesgratter I am giving my son to make a macintosh
Very nice, Im still using my late 2012 21.5" i5 imac with fusion drive and 16gb ram. and its still going strong. I think it was well worth the 2,000 i payed.
I really appreciate this video. I have been a long time apple user and recently decided to upgrade from my old 2012 MacBook Pro for 4k editing and music production. I got so sucked into the specs of custom PCs that I built a crazy Ryzen machine for around $1800, and after using it for a few days I have to agree with what you’re saying. Is the machine fast as Hell with an 8 core processor, nvme drive and 32gb of ddr4 3200? Of course it is. But I’m already running into stability issues, annoyances with windows 10, and other small issues that make it frustrating to be creative. While I disagree with a lot of apples recent decisions, i have come full circle in realizing that the most important thing to a creative professional is having a machine that is seamless and JUST WORKS. No fuss, and staying in the creative flow is more important than the most maxed out machine for your money. And after using my pc for a few days, this is why I’ll be returning it for a 2017 5k iMac. Thanks for helping me to solidify that decision.
A few questions, if you don't mind: (1: Did you/were you able to upgrade the RAM? (2: You seem to use Apple's standard Bluetooth keyboard. Do you have markings on the keys that help you use the proper command keys while booted into Windows, or do you use a different keyboard then? (I bought a Loigtech keyboard and mouse combo that's "multi-device", with both MacOS and Win key markings.) (3: I bought a copy of Windows 10 at Walmart, and would like to make my iMac into a dual-boot machine via Boot Camp. Any advice?
Finally a practical and realistic review. I am still using my mid 2010 iMac for graphic design and it's seamless even now. I'll be getting the new 2017 iMac soon. Finally Apple got it right after a long time. Great review!
I'm in the market for a new Mac and I've been tossing up about getting the 27" iMac. I've never really been worried about the price differential too much, because for me it's about the whole experience and how seamless it all is. I've just price shopped an equivalent PC to the iMac I've decided on. To my utter amazement the Apple product is cheaper if you don't build the PC yourself (which I can't be bothered with these days). So to my mind the Apple Tax(tm) is a bit of misnomer really, at least in this case.
got to say, from a music production perspective, Logic Pro X is still the standard for DAW software. yes there is Ableton, but LPX is so much more user friendly and thus lets you be more productive.
Thank you for this review. I’m also a musician but I’m going to do video content in the future. I got a mid 2010 MacBook Pro sooo it’s time for an upgrade.
Looks like between those 2 processors are a little different, video card and 1tb fusion and 2 tb fusion... is there a big difference in these 2 computers... would it be a big difference for the $300 more... thanks for your help... I bought the 1tb option but have a few days left where I can exchange...
Great video. You just convinced me to get a 5k 2017 iMac. Want it for 4K editing and also don’t agree with adobe not allowing us to just buy software. Thanks👍
New viewer, Until WWDC2017 I was considering (with great pain) switching myself. My wife's laptop is getting ready to go out. I was in need of an upgrade for editing myself. Things were a getting better on the financial side of life. Something was going to happen soon. When I saw the new iMacs I wanted to drop money right then and there....but I didn't have nearly enough. I am waiting on my new 27" iMac right now. Most relaxed I've felt about buying a Mac in all my life.
Was just checking one out and after opening final cut pro x and testing it out a little...it worked smoothly apart from that smart mouse with the touch scroll. It looked amazing also...the macbook pro retina with touch bar cost more and didn't give me the same feeling. Only 2,048 euros ..the pro was about 2,500+ .... what audio editing suite are you using.
Awsomeness...Running Windows 10 Partition and Sonar Platinum on 8GB I'm sure when I ramp up to 16 GB or more this thing will scream with my creative flow demands...thanks for the review and I agree with all you said...
Thanks for the great presentation. I just got a 27inch i7 512ssd, am adding 32 gb ram to the onboard 8 and will be doing audio production. Your review has reinforced my decision to buy. BTW, what kind of desk is that. Thanks!
BTW - If you wanted a top end machine. Why didn't you spend a lot more money and get a 512GB SSD? I love the SSD on my MacBook Pro. Makes a big difference to me.
When it comes to the specs, I'm right there with you. My issue with the iMac is the form factor. If apple made desk top computers with iMac specs that weren't an all in ones, I would buy two right now. To make a long story short, In my perfect world we would have the Mac and the Mac pro, instead of the iMac and the Mac Pro. Both would have user upgradable ram, graphics, and storage. Single Core series chips in the Mac, and dual Xeons in the Mac pro. 5 years from now, the Core i5 in your iMac will still be a beastly processor. If you could upgrade the graphics, ram, and storage as you see fit, It could last you ten years. I'm still chugging along on my 3.1 mac Pro. I don't really need dual xeons ( I got this one used) but I hate the imac form factor.
i would do the iMac and the Mac.. no need for pro because iMac will mid-pro users, and Mac, (which in perfect world would be entirely upgradable), would be entirely pro users and up.
I agree the screen is the standout feature on this device. Your evaluation of the price however is inaccurate. You could buy the LG 5K display from Apple and build yourself a PC with equivalent specs. Here in the UK an iMac i5, 16Gb ram, 256gb SSD will set you back approx. £2000. The LG display + same specs in a PC sets you back the same amount of money.
My bad, I was inaccurate. Only macs output 5k in a single cable, monitors that use dual input should work fine on windows. Dell's use two DisplayPort for 5k.
That’s awesome! I got a GoPro hero 7, when I shoot in 4K, or even 1080 @ 60fps it is a hvec file that I have to put into a program and convert to a h264 or something? It takes so long to convert the file to even begin editing on my 2009 iMac . This one would be able to take a 4K hvec video from my GoPro right into iMovie or final cut?
What your thought about a 2017 4k iMac 21.5 whit 16gb ram, readon pro 560 4gb vram, and 256 gb ssd? I doubt between 2017 imac 4k or the baseline imac 5k. I want to use the iMac for audio, video editing. Which one do you recommend?
I'm looking at the same computer, but I'm considering the SSD instead of the fusion drive. However, I'm wondering if $700 is worth it for the 1TB SSD. I have heard that Apple is optimizing their apps for a solid-state drive and I think it would be more future proof computer with a large SSD. I also intend on keeping it for at least as long as I've had my current iMac since 2009. Do you think the SSD is worth the upgrade? Thanks! Great review by the way. Thumbs up.
I went with the 1tb ssd myself. I felt that 512 would still feel cramped but buying a computer I needed to last close to 5 years I felt foolish getting anything but ssd. External storage is cheap, so I felt 1tb gave me enough room for working projects, and once those are complete to load onto externals and then free up that space for fresh content
keep in mind that SSDs Apple included are not typical SSDs but usually the fastest in the world. unlike Microshit putting inferior shits on their expensive surface products
Jordan Steffen, I wouldn't want anything less than 1 TB SSD, and that is for OS, Apps, and current files, favorite music, and movies from I-Tunes or Apple Music, everything else can be stored on an external drive. I feel an SSD drive is future proof also. Anything smaller than 1 TB SSD, would feel like a squeeze on space.
I just bought one, but with 256GB SSD. Have I made a mistake and perhaps should have gone for a larger SSD? I just want to use the iMac for web development...
I think you made the right choice. Just get a usb or thunderbolt 3 external HDD and store stuff you're not currently working on there. Or check and see if your wireless router has a usb port. A lot of newer routers let you plug a drive into them and use it for network attached storage which is what I do and share between my computer and laptop at home.
I been a mac user for 14 years, I am still on a soon to be 9 year old iMac and I need a new one before it just shuts down on me. I don't game on computers, I did in the past. Mac games! I still have my copy of Halo for the mac, which is expensive to get now, I am not one of those people who would be talking to those on what they should get. I had a PC, never owned one personally. I had nothing but Mac, don't have interest in a windows machine. Give me one though I'd use it, for the things I want to use it for. Maybe use it as a broadcasting machine! He is right it's not about the specs, if I got a new iMac right now. It would blow this one out of the water... Mine is a 2.66ghz iMac 20" 320GB hard drive with all of the things they taken out (fw 400 / 800, super drive etc...)
Super viedeo! Very natural in your appearence and honest and objective analysis. I am thinking about buying an iMac for some time now. Your review really helped! Thumbs up
I'm definitely leaning towards the new iMac just like you got but I hate to get a base model of anything so I've got to do some more research, great discussion by the way.
Yep, really appreciated this review. I have a 2009 iMac and a 2010 MacBook Air (will keep that) and this review was the last straw. I see they have this exact model you described online for a bit less (and new) and I'm going to grab it. I'll keep the old iMac for a "garage band station" for now, but probably will get rid of that also. Many thanks. Like your style.
Hi!thanks for the great video!may I ask you would you suggest me to buy 27" i5 3.8ghz with 8gb ram(will upgrade myself after) ,2tb fusion drive and radeon580 8gb for photo editing and some times 4k video?do you think will run nice smooth and fast, import and edit, export fast?or shell I upgrade to i7 4.2ghz and 512ssd?thanks
Excellent, useful review. I'm struggling right now between getting an iMac 27 or making a hackintosh. Your review convinced me. Still debating about a laptop - I'm still using a 2011 MacBook Pro and trying to edit video on it 😫 I can't see myself buying a 2017 or 2016 MBP as everything is soldered to the board. I don't want to switch to Windows. I may buy a 2015 MBP or try to do a laptop hackintosh but ugh it looks painful. Feel free to opine. Thanks again for your video.
I am seriously considering buying the 2017 base model even in the end of 2018, for an apple product that's where you get the bang for a buck, expensive yes, but the apple ecosystem is great, the design is good, it takes up less space than a pc setup, and you can even play triple A titles on it with decent settings. whats not to like :D ALSO, you always pay premium for an all-in-one build, if you compare the AIO PC builds with the iMacs, you'll find that the iMacs are actually not expensive in their respective area :)
but what about the fact that on that 1 tb fusion the ssd lump is only 32 gb. i mean with system and programs i need at least 100, i would say... i m now in 2018 wondering if i should get this machine or pay out for an i7 ??? Anyone ? for photography editing, video editing, etc.
I just replaced my Win 10 machine with a 27" 5k iMac with the i7 4.2 last week. Even if they do come out it will be later this year, and I needed it now. One of the reasons I switched from Windows to Mac is that they have better future proofing overall. the 2017 models will be able to run the next two Mac OS versions at least with minimal speed reduction. When you factor in that I purchased a refurbished model online through Apple the cost savings makes it even better. It will be at least a year another before the new model if it happens will be available as a refurb.
jason c I actually just got a 21.5 4K from my dad. While I was hesitant at first I’m happy I did it. I don’t have the pain of switching os and I got a great deal for a computer that my dad hardly used. 👍🏼
Thanks for this honest review. Geeked. I’ve been excited about building a PC but really wanted I could trust and knew. Definitely grabbing the iMac now. I’m looking at getting the i7 processor and buying RAM and a solid slate drive to max it out.

PAINFULLY HONEST TECH I'm afraid that's the case ;) All my other devices are with retina displays and I know there's no turning back after using one.

Matheau Michalak students get a discount on this ?
No sales on Macs in the States? We regularly get 10% off here.
Pretty new to Imac and macs myself - after 20+ yes of pc.. Absolutely love my 5k Imac ... Absolutely love it
I too am new to Mac, and I fee the same way! Love it
Hey mate, still happy with it?
Hey how's the iMac holding up after one year ?
Thanks for the video. You definitely won't find a better looking screen than the iMac, everything looks so sharp and crispy
I just picked up this same one 2017 27 inch base model, first time Mac user coming from PC and Im in love with it. It is an amazing machine.
I'm still on a 2011 27" i7 iMac with 16GB of memory and dual drives. A new 2017 27" i7 Retina iMac is coming soon though. I can't wait.
I use my late 2014 5k iMac for video editing, Fl Studio, photoshop, a lil gaming and it's amazing! Great review.
What specs?
i recently purchased my first iMac 2017 its a great device!!!!!! thank you for your incite!!!!!
I'm definitely getting this mac for what I'm going to do. I'm just doing 4k video editing and the imac pro would be over kill. Will probably upgrade and get the i7 chip and the 1tb ssd drive. Will get ram else where and I think I will have a great machine for the next 5 years.
did you get it?
It sounds great. The I-7 and the with the 1 TB SSD drive. The Ram is upgradeable in the 2017 27 Inch I-Mac.
2 years late, but actually not, cuz I wanna buy this iMac now and you helped alot with this informations and honest opinions.
great video, thank you sir! :)
One of the best reviews in plain language I ever watched. Thank you,... and you probably convinced me.
I just bought a 13" macbook pro with touchbar and 16Gb of ram, seeing this beauty coming close to the same price is a bit sour, but then again I'm a student who needs a portable machine... Really liked the review btw!!
This was the video i watched where I discovered your channel 2-3 years ago
I want one, I have a iPad Pro and just debating how much use I will get out of it
Have a question... would I be better off buying the 2017 iMac 27” with the 1tb fusion or the 2 tb fusion... I know that the 1tb has only 24gb I’d ssd storage and the 2tb has 128gb of ssd storage... I only do a little bit of photo editing and I hardly do any video editing... I will post another comment with the 2 different machines I’m interested in... just want to know which one you would recommend ... price difference is $300
I use a MacBook Pro with a GeForce 650M. I've never had this good of a gaming PC before.
i have gone from windows pcs to imac and back i have decided imacs are the best
I have been using apple mini for a few years and use it also. I
Have used a high spec cheese grater with a high spec for while For my video editing
That Ido every day I was undecided what buy next to improve my editing
I eventually decided on th e apple I mac I am over the moon with this apple like you I can't believe the difference in speed
The rendering. Is faster than the other macs I have used. I am chuffed to little naffi. breaks
The lwelve core with my sapphire 580 cheesgratter I am giving my son to make a macintosh
Very nice, Im still using my late 2012 21.5" i5 imac with fusion drive and 16gb ram. and its still going strong. I think it was well worth the 2,000 i payed.
My late 2013imac with quad core 16 ram still runs well
I really appreciate this video.
Hey mate are you still using it? Is it good?
I Just bought one. Thank you for your review. I’m excited to get back to my production.
What I really dislike about Apple is that the new operating system is not available on my Mac Pro. It's only eight years old!
Philip Harris whatever happened to Pro Tools? Lol
All my confusions are cleared.. I will go ahead with the Mac... thanks a lot 😎
I think you are sitting in a Kinsal Chair, I would like to know what you think about it.
How was the experience with Fusion drive? Was it too slow? Or OK unless you deal with big files?
Great video. You just convinced me to get a 5k 2017 iMac. Want it for 4K editing and also don’t agree with adobe not allowing us to just buy software. Thanks👍
New viewer,
Until WWDC2017 I was considering (with great pain) switching myself.

Once I saw the analog sticks on your controller I gave the vid a thumbs up.
do you think apple will released new iMacs in 2018? should I wait?
Latest I heard about the next two or so weeks, I am waiting.
they havent sent invatations out for any other event i dont really think they are doing another event this year
I might be getting a used one for $850! Is that still a good price for this in 2019?
Great video and review! Do you think the i5 base model is future proof enough? I would like to buy it for heavy 4K editing.
Can you tell me, please, what RAM you will be buying to upgrade it with? Thanks! (Nice clip.)
Just ordered one!
Hope they redo the Mac Mini . That is all I need. But it has been forgotten by Apple
did you connect an external CD/DVD player to it?...what about noise, or is it quiet???
I agree the screen is the standout feature on this device.
Your evaluation of the price however is inaccurate.
You could buy the LG 5K display from Apple and build yourself a PC with equivalent specs.
Here in the UK an iMac i5, 16Gb ram, 256gb SSD will set you back approx. £2000. The LG display + same specs in a PC sets you back the same amount of money.
Good luck pushing 5k in a PC... only Apple compression-controller-hardware push 5k right now. See Linus video about it.
Fernando Álvares Even though Dell 5k screens work no issue with Windows? I'll have to do more research.
Thumbs up.
ScoobyFermentation You can buy an external usb-c ssd. That would be way cheaper and (because of usb-c/thunderbold) is very fast too :D
Buy the 512 sad and get a larger external.
Thumbs up
What desk is that and what are the Dimensions
I'm definitely leaning towards the new iMac just like you got but I hate to get a base model of anything so I've got to do some more research, great discussion by the way.
Great Review! I was on the fence. I am now off the fence. Thank you. iMac 27.
connected my MacBook Pro 15 i7 to a 4k monitor. Most economical way for me
Yep, really appreciated this review.
I've got a 2015 21.5" iMac. It came with a 5400rpm hard drive, so I opened it up and put a 1TB SSD in. Problem solved.
Not at all. Removing the screen was the hardest part. The location of the hard drive was immediately accessible once the screen was removed.
Just found your channel and I’m a huge fan of your setup. Working on something similar.
Excellent, useful review. I'm struggling right now between getting an iMac 27 or making a hackintosh. Your review convinced me. Still debating about a laptop - I'm still using a 2011 MacBook Pro and trying to edit video on it 😫
I can't see myself buying a 2017 or 2016 MBP as everything is soldered to the board.
Anyone still think this would be a safe purchase? I would like to get a Mac and I do not want to wait for 2019 iMac (if it happens)
Great video!
Is this the base model with 1TB Fusion Drive?
Thanks. Now I know what to buy and why. Very helpful!
There is no 5k monitors available on PC hardware. The 5K only works on PC it has been researched by other hardware researchers.
Good day, I'am Bass player, Using IMac, How do you connect the Power speakers to your IMac. Direct 1/8 connector?
Thanks for this honest review. Geeked. I’ve been excited about building a PC but really wanted I could trust and knew. Definitely grabbing the iMac now. I’m looking at getting the i7 processor and buying RAM and a solid slate drive to max it out.
Have you tried an eizo screen. What did you think
Does the 1TB Fusion Drive in your machine, have 32GB or 128GB of flash (SSD) module in it.
Rahul Agarwal the new ones all come with 128gb flash storage.
The Age of Ultron is here😎
Can you color calibrate the monitor using a X-Rite i1Display Pro or something equivalent?
