    I have the 2015 27 inch 5K iMac. It's been running 24 x 7 for the last 2 years. I love it. I will be upgrading to the iMac Pro. It's well worth it for me.

    Congratulations on making the correct decision, the second time around. I bought my 27” 2017 iMac in August. The user-upgradeable RAM alone made me not get the 21”. It was t cost effective in my opinion.

    Great video! RAM upgrade...I learned something new! I have a 2011 21” iMac I love, but aspire to buy the 27” inch next. Researching to see if it’s worth it-my needs are simple, so the upgrade is pure desire. The info migration feature is awesome to see too, thanks for sharing that!

    How is the fan noise when rendering? I'm on an i5 6500k CPU hackintosh now and it's inaudible at full load but I'm wanting that nice 5k screen and convinience of not having to figure out how to un-break my machine each time a security update comes out and my macbook pro sounds like a jet engine taking off.

    I am loving my i7 4.2 5k iMac. I bought a refurbished one through the Apple Store online. It came with 16Gb of Ram, the 2TB Fusion drive, and 8GB Radeon Pro 580 for about $2,600 after taxes and purchasing Apple Care. It's worth noting that none of the 5k models have a pure HDD. The Fusion drives are Hybrids. The 1TB have 32GB of that capacity being SSD, and the 2TB and 3TB having 128GB of SSD. While over all they're not ass fast as a pure SSD they are still much faster than a traditional HDD. For those interested in the base model i5 4k you can get one with the traditional 1TB HDD for $929 plus tax, or for a hundred dollars more you can get one with the 1TB Fusion drive. I have the base model i5 4k also that I purchased as the family computer for basic use, and it's a really good computer for school use, internet, video streaming, and basic gaming. I switched back to Mac after using Windows computers for 20 years, and both models surpass my Windows 10 machines. Both were HPs one of which was my i7 6th gen with 16GB of RAM, and it was slow as molasses when running Photoshop or Lightroom compared to my i7 5k iMac. Helpful advice though if you're looking for a Refurbished i7 5k be patient they sell as fast as they're in stock. It took me a few days of checking once or twice an hour until the one I got was in stock.

      If I were to step up my workflow to doing 8K, or more intensive editing and color grading (most of what I do is just multicam, lots of cuts, and occasional transitions), I could possibly see the iMac Pro being worthwhile, but this one does just as much as I need and it was a lot cheaper.

    I have the late 2015 iMac 27" w/top processor & graphics card, which unfortunately the 395x w/4gb is not as good as the graphics card in the base '17 model, not to mention i have no USB C ports. The only reason i'm holding off is that I know that at some point here Apple's going to make an iMac with the 120hz display and then it will definitely be time to upgrade... Great video, Jordan.

      So the 2015 graphics card is not too good is that correct I was thinking of buying one-there a little cheaper but I have been reading about the graphics cards are not too great, but the 2017 model apparently is better I do a lot of video editing

    Great video! What was the reason behind moving the 2x4gb ram sticks to slots 2/4 vs just sticking in the 2x16gb sticks into 2/4 slots?
    Edit: Any performance enhancements?

    • @lorenzocorsomusic1308
      @lorenzocorsomusic1308 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This may be late but a motherboard can only run your ram in dualmode when its either slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 when u stick it in 1 and 2 only one ram stick will get mostly detected and you’re not running in dualmode so yeah theres a performance boost :)
      And btw im sorry that drew brees retired :(

    • @andre9710
      @andre9710 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The i5 is 7th gen with 4 cores so I would hold off until the possible 2019 iMac. Hypothetically, it will feature an 8th or 9th gen processor (which will have 6-8 cores) so wait until then and performance will be better

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Intel Iris Plus 640 and Radeon Pro 560 are the graphics chips used. The Intel one is built into the CPU, and is much less powerful than the Radeon, which is a separate, dedicated component inside the computer.
      Both of the iMacs I showed in this video are Retina, but the 27" is 5k, the 21.5" is 4k.

    is the 21.5 4k imac good for someone who is 5'7' in height? I purchased the 27 inch 5k imac and I felt the screen was way too high. My neck was starting to hurt since looking at the 27inch model. I returned it to the apple store.

    • @JordanKeyes
      @JordanKeyes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that depends on your desk/chair setup. I'm 5'8", and I've used my 27" on both a sitting desk and a standing desk, and it's comfortable for me. The 21" was similar, just a little smaller

      I don't believe so. Apple provides docs about how to install memory ( support.apple.com/en-us/HT201191 ) and discusses the type of ram needed, and on the iMac tech specs page, says it's "user accessible" without mentioning warranty issues anywhere.

    • @JCole78
      @JCole78 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a couple of weeks so I don't if this will help you now, but maybe it can help someone in a similar situation. To be honest what most people use to need a traditional computer for can all be done on a cellphone now which is really just a portable computer that can make phone calls. I do a lot of heavy photo and video editing, so I do need a traditional computer. My wife homeschools our kids, and she does a lot of things with them on the computer, so we really needed a family computer. Based on the needs I bought the base i5 4k for the family, and the i7 5k for me. If you're wanting something to just use occasionally at a much cheaper cost, but still want a Mac that doesn't need to be a power house the previous models of Mac Minis and IMacs can be found fairly cheap. I just seen a 2011 5k model in the Facebook Market for $400.

      Value wise the iMac is still top dog. A base 1800 dollar 27" 5K iMac is a really good value considering you get a decent spec computer and a 5K display. LG makes the only 5K 27" monitor as of typing this and its 1300 dollars alone with no computer. Something to consider :)

      Yes. You need them to remove the screen. Fortunately, there's rarely a reason you'd ever need to do that. For RAM upgrades, there is a door on the back. You can expand storage with USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 if need be. (My storage is on a NAS mostly.)

    I got one of these and have never regretted buying anything so much. Keeps breaking down. Apple are really not much good at fixing it. Apart from lying to me about it they now want it in a third time to fix it. I can't see myself ever buying an Apple computer again. Great if it works but if it doesn't you are stuffed and that is with their Apple Care. Not a fan!

    You Could have just upgraded the RAM :D

    • @JCole78
      @JCole78 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the general practice if your opening one of the 4ks up to up grade the RAM you might as well upgrade the HDD too, so you don't ever have to go back into it to upgrade. The HDD that it comes with is a 5400rpm drive, and that's one of the big reasons it's so slow. Also the 2017 4k iMacs require a near complete tare down which requires removing the display that is glued on to upgrade the RAM, and it's only upgradable to 16gb. Which is why most upgrade the HDD while they're already in it.

      Just chill. As far as I know, he's got both the Amazon Echo and Google Home line up. In other words, he has means to afford stuff and play with them. Here, on his channel, he is sharing his experience with those stuff. I'm pretty sure he knew he could have bought a PC.

      You couldn’t give me any other computer. Have the 27 , iPad, touch, phone and tv, all work flawlessly together. If you can afford it go for it. My last Mac was over 10 years old, great machines

    For less money, I would build a faster computer. Mac users are dumb with their money.

      If theyre not dumb, then do they hate money, or themselves for past misdeads?
      Why spend more for less? Why do that to yourself, just to support the god Apple?
      Build a Linux machine yourself. Or go to your local IT shop and have them build you one.
      Support a local store.
      Or do you prefere giving your money to the Foxconn sweatshop?
