    What you call the CPU is actually the GPU, and what you call the GPU is the CPU which IS removable !

    Can you help with a question please? How strong is the ram module, and how well fixed is it to the screen/back/motherboard? I used a fair bit of pressures putting in new ram (previous ram upgrades needed some force, so I expected I needed to here too, but I guess they were already in fine). Could i have damaged anything? I can not really see any images of how the ram module is fixed and works. I might be being OCD, but it's a expensive computer. Thank you!

    I have a question -- any way you guys can tell me how does the cooling airflow flow inside (in through the bottom and out the back little grille right above the RAM bay?). Also, if the air flow does go in from the bottom, how much of the bottom vents are actually intake cooling vents and how much are the speakers using? I ask because I want to be pro-active with this new iMac I got (27'' 2017 model) when cleaning/vacuuming the vents for dust from time to time. I'd appreciate any help or info on this. Thanks much!

    Hello, how are you!
    After upgrading my disk, I closed the display with the appropriate sticker and it was great, but my microphone does not work anymore, if I scream it picks up the voice very low. You can tell me where the microphone input is, because I believe I tampered with the sticker.
    Thank you very much for your attention and congratulations for the instructions and demonstrations.
    Thanks!

    • @AppleReviews

      I bet as usual 128GB - everything depends how You are going to use that disk. Your iMac is already desktop - I would prefer to install macOS on external Thunderbolt 3 SSD. But if You want to risk Your warranty and You know how to open it - then buy PCIe SSD (and throw away HDD to stop using it as slower Fusion Drive)

    For those asking how big is the SSD from the Fusion Drive:
    The 1TB Fusion Drive pairs a 1TB hard drive with 32GB of fast SSD - enough to store important macOS files and applications to ensure fast startup, near instant wake from sleep, and quick application launching, with room left over for your most frequently used files and apps. The 2TB and 3TB Fusion Drives pair a larger hard drive with 128GB of fast SSD storage, providing even more space for your most frequently used files.

    • @sircoynie

      MacSales. com thanks for the info. So would it be best to get the 512gb SSD (i assume Apple install this via the PCie connection?) and add an internal SSD purchasing HDD mount and cabling or better to purchase the 2tb fusion drive and wait for the PCie 512gb OWC upgrade or just update the HDD to SSD (would the 128gb PCie make any difference if still installed?)?
      Really is confusing and I haven’t found any information on which option is the best for future upgradability? A video on this would be AWESOME!

      no. not internally. it won't come with an hdd bracket or cable and may or may not have the port on the MB to add the cable.

    • @sweetasbloodredjam
      @sweetasbloodredjam 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't take my word for it as I haven't done it myself but I THINK you actually can. I think they do have the port, so you would only need to get the mounting bracket and cable (ebay is your friend) either used or from a 3rd party.
      I've heard conflicting info on this though, a couple of people claiming you can do it, or that they have done it, nothing definitive.
      Now what I'm wondering is if I could put an Imac 2017 logicboard into a late 2015 imac case wth minimal modifications to the TB2 ports and take full advatage of TB3. It's probably easier to just sell and rebuy though. :P

    • @TechAndHobby

      MacSales. com so does that mean if I only want to upgrade to 2.5" SSD, I just need to open the screen, move the speaker that sits next to the HD out of the way(without detaching the cable), and then proceed the upgrading without having to touch anything to the motherboard and other stuffs, right?

    Is it possible to upgrade the flash storage with a M.2 ssd, and HD with 2.5 ssd?

    • @Jiaojiang
      @Jiaojiang 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This iMac features both an SSHD ( Fusion Drive ) and a PCI-E SSD. How can this be possible straight out of the box ? I don't see the configuration option on the Apple ( US ) website to have both the SSHD and the PCI-E SSD. Please explain

    • @Jiaojiang
      @Jiaojiang 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, thanks for clearing this up !

    • @Jiaojiang
      @Jiaojiang 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it is possible to upgrade the flash storage with an M.2 SSD. The proprietary SSD connector used on the previous generation Apple computers is an altered M.2 connector. Electrically it's just an M.2 connector. There are adapters on the market that allow an M.2 SSD to be fitted in the proprietary Apple SSD slot. Google "Apple M.2 adapter". microsatacables.com and sintech.cn sell these adapters. ( More information below )
      However, the PCI-E SSD's on the previous generation Apple computers are all M.2 AHCI SSD's. Most M.2 SSD's on the market use the newer / more efficient NVMe protocol. There are only a few M.2 AHCI SSD's on the market. These M.2 AHCI SSD's are way cheaper than their Apple counterparts ( rebranded Samsung SM951's ) but they are all slower :(
      I assume that Apple moved on to the newer NVMe protocol with their latest computers. Now you can fit a Samsung 960 Pro ( for example ) in the Apple SSD slot using an adapter. However, I didn't take the time for verify this. Please Google it first ! At the moment, there isn't much information on this since the latest generation of Apple computers are just released. You might want to wait some time ( a week, 2 weeks ... ) for more information to become available.
      Also, TRIM-support might not be available for aftermarket M.2 SSD's. If I remember correctly, this was the case for the M.2 AHCI SSD's. However, it might be possible now. Please verify this too.

    • @Demnia
      @Demnia 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is the same connector (not 100% sure) has the one present in mbps (early 2015 for instance), NGFF M.2 PCIe adaptors can be found on internet. Now High Sierra supports other brand ssds, I think there is a chance it works, 4096 block size ssd might work even with versions below High Sierra. A 4 lanes pcie 3.0 ssd should be used.

    Are those screws on the display or rivets? Many users complain about black stains under the glass because the dust comes in, it is a bad design Apple never fixed. If those are screws it means it can be opened and simply cleaned, otherwise Apple just replaces the whole display.
