    This video was re-uploaded to hopefully address an audio cutout issue that was affecting Safari users on macOS. We apologize for the problem, and are hoping that it will be solved going forward. If you would like to access the original upload with its comments, you can do so here, as it's been left unlisted: th-cam.com/video/ZHQ2w1lqtys/w-d-xo.html Thank you for your support.

    I love the "Value" added of the keyboard, mouse and lightening cable. I assure you those items are PART of the price.

    reupload? and also, I think the bezels make the imac look good. the lg 5k display has barely any bezels and look how that turned out compared to the imac.

    If Apple updated the 27" 5K iMac to not have a bezel, they would likely take away the ability for the end-user to upgrade their memory. No thanks...

    @MarkDeu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for your review. I noticed that the fan of the imac 27" 5k 2017 is also in the normal use, in a quiet room, noticeable. Is that normal? Cheers Mark

    Man, some people really hate bezels...probably the same nuts who keep driving us towards designs so thin they have to ditch hard drives....to me it seems there is a significant visual benefit of having something between the screen and whatever one's wall looks like. This is common sense in any sort of decent [home] theater setup but I guess we'll have to have Apple engineer them out so we can finally have a completely invisible computer that looks like nothing.

      Yeah, I don't understand the obsession with removing bezels/borders either. I mean to the point where the new iPhone has to have a huge notch in the way of the thing just to get rid of them. lol

      GPBX01B not to mention make it less useful in the redesign so it looks good

  • @fredericktennant9151

    Great video, the point of the bezels is so that you can put your post-it notes around the side of the monitor it was designed that way years ago but it would look dope without any at all. I suppose their design team is working on that option already.

  • @javiertrevino5535
    @javiertrevino5535 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Will it be a good option in 2019? I only want a Mac that can handle simple After Effects motion graphic videos ( think 2d graphics, animated titles, audio files, etc. ), not too heavy. When compared to the new Mac mini or the 2018 Macbook Pros, what would you choose for that purpose?

  • @NeilSnapePhotography
    @NeilSnapePhotography 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good honest video. I chose the 2017 5K with the i7 4.2ghz with 8gb for 4K video. The only two mistakes I made were; 1 didn't notice the keyboard option with numeric pad was way done in the list, and albeit super expensive 2 the 512GB SSD and should have opted for the 1TB as the internal memory is blazingly fast compared to external SSD for video.

    • @zhenyaanuwatr1519
      @zhenyaanuwatr1519 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neil,can you please suggest me ,I have dilemma!shell I buy the 1tb fusion drive is it good enough for photo and video editing and use external ssd after of shell I get one time 512 ssd?thanks!

    • @NeilSnapePhotography
      @NeilSnapePhotography 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      External SSDs will be limited to the bus speed; i.e. USB C around 400-500MBs. Internal is over 2100 MBs. To do real time 4k you'll need that. If not you need to run optimised media for 1/2 or 1/4 resolution viewing in the edit timeline.

    • @zhenyaanuwatr1519
      @zhenyaanuwatr1519 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohhh I see! But do you do 4 k video with those 2tb? For photo won't be issues ,will be like bread and butter right?

    • @zhenyaanuwatr1519
      @zhenyaanuwatr1519 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhh sorry,so you end up with 512ssd instead 1tb?

    • @NeilSnapePhotography
      @NeilSnapePhotography 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is fast for both, yet since i use Lightroom with the iMac 5K and a second 4K UHD BenQ sw320 Adobe has to redraw every change when above >2560 pixel HD displays. Not a problem on PC.

    I got one of these and the display is incredible. I am also enjoying the OS X experience coming from 20 years of using Windows. The bezels and bloody ridiculous though. The bottom chin is almost 10cm thick. If it wasn't for the massive bezels I would give this computer a 9.5/10.

    1699...here you have to pay well over 2300 euros for the BASE 27" model. And still don't get any official store.
    Why exactly I can't order one from another country's official Apple site?

    How much of a difference did the extra ram make? Have got one of these, but the DDR4-2400 is not yet readily available in my country (South Africa). Can only get 32gb Crucial sticks... so a little on the expensive side. Would it be ok to wait a little while or does the extra ram make a BIG noticeable difference?

    Besides prosumer video/photo editing use(most reviewer test it on those field only), for real professional works like engineering, products design and so on of professional industries use, does top of the line 15 inch MacBook Pro still a best choice or ThinkPad or Dell Precision are better? Or I should get a i7 2017 27 inch iMac?

      Paganino Mission I'm pretty sure the 27 has a tad better processor and graphics

    • @carrotstyks525
      @carrotstyks525 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paganino Mission Don't buy an iMac anyways. This is a horrible review. Not the best "bang for your buck" whatsoever. Build your own, you can build a beastly PC which will completely destroy the iMac, for the same price.
      You can get a Ryzen 7 1700X 8-Core processor for $300, with a GTX 1080 that will give you amazing graphics performance for around $580. Pick up some 32GB DDR4 RAM and you have a great PC so far. You'll also need an SSD, hard drive (optional), motherboard, optical drive (optional), and a CPU cooler.
      And that's for not even the price of the overpriced iMac you would be wanting to get.

    • @OmegaMachine
      @OmegaMachine 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You right CarrotStyks. And I didn't buy one. I build my own pc. with the following specs:
      Coolmaster 5 pro mid tower
      Intel core i7-7800X Hexa 6-Core 3.5Ghz Turbo boost 4.0Ghz
      256GB PCi Flash SSD (M2 Drive)
      Msi Nvidia geforce gtx 1050 Ti 4GB
      16GB 2400MHZ DDR4 ram
      4k display from philips
      All for 1550euro, where the iMac is at 1935euro and the iMac have low specs also

    Just bought a 2017 27" base model imac for $1100 on my local Facebook market place. Bought 32GB of RAM from OWC, going to buy a i7 7700K and a 1TB SSD to replace the HDD partition of the fusion drive. OWC RAM ($280)+ i7 ($300)+ 1TB SSD ($280) = $860 which puts me right at $2,000 for a MONSTER of an iMac and saves me just over $3,000 had I bought all of this brand new from Apple. Being that I work on Photo Shop, Final Cut, Davinci Resolve, and Lightroom and I have an eGPU, it's a great damn buy. I definitely recommend anyone who can buy the 2017 base model of the iMac 27" to do so and upgrade it.

    I was also thinking of getting the 512 ssd storage , this seems to be the way things are going.

    • @GizmaestroLEGEND
      @GizmaestroLEGEND 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're for basic video editing, It's a good machine. But if you're into advanced editing, you will need to look at options like Ryzen running 8 cores.
      For better overall experience you will still need more cores if you're going to render videos which will need more cores to utilised at the same time.

      chateau7 login to the iMac using your account to link the FC then check on your purchased tab on your macbook to download it. Try refreshing the page if it doesn't show. If this doesn't work, call Apple support and they will link it to your account for you.

    As someone who will purchase this 2017 5K 27” unit, i am not enthusiastic by what some consider the high points. The i5 is very dated and graphics that drive it is years out from PC. The monitor and access to memory is great but keyboard is the scissors crap coming out MacBook Pro which can only be replaced by purchasing the new three version. Charging the mouse means turning it upside down and being able to use it. The hard drive is another joke like the intel hybrid hard disk SSD. Major surgery to upgrade this in unit. And the ports are good but another strange Apple idea. Say goodbye to my MacBook that is going in as trade on this unit, minimum except i7 processor.

    Indeed, remove the remove the bezels. Add a TouchID sensor. Replace the function key row with a touch strip to the keyboard (and keep the price the same) - and I'll upgrade from My 2010 17" MBP to an iMac: way I'm paying over €3.000 for a new MacBook Pro (the top-tier model MacBook Pro costs €5.000,- here in Europe. That's about $5.600!!! No wonder one buys it).

    The focus (and reuse of video on) external GPUs is simply irrelevant, or at least wishful thinking at this point. Also, the mid-level 27" iMac is a better deal, with a better video card and 3Tb Fusion Drive option not available for the entry level machine. And you *do* want a bigger Fusion Drive, 2TB or 3Tb, because those come with 128Gb SSD while the stock 1Tb Fusion Drive only comes with 32Gb SSD. And if you're putting lots of RAM into the machine Apple RECOMMENDS that iMacs with 32+ GB of RAM be configured with at least a 2 TB Fusion Drive. (For more on that see tidbits DOT com/article/17383)

    I think the design is "Timeless" not dated. Who cares if there is a bit of bezel around the screen!!! My new 2017 27" iMac sits nicely next to my 2010 27" iMac. Both i7 chipsets, of course the 2017 is a much better computer.

    • @darailcruise847
      @darailcruise847 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DarkCloud360 it's aluminum, better than plastic from lg, although the bezel look is dated already, they have to have room to put everything in there.

    • @Prizm44
      @Prizm44 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the bezels are a bummer, but as Darryl says, you need room for the components and heat dissipation (I reckon heat is/was the main issue). Still, it's 2017 and three years on, so if they wanted to ditch the bezels I think they could've found a way to make it work with today's components. Although on the forums, people have been saying the i7 heats up quite a bit and gets the fan revved up high.

      This is a computer, not a phone. Those "bezels" are great for creatives and professionals who work with images, video or graphics design so they can see the files against a black background. Professional monitors even have black frames built in for that reason.

    • @ilmostro16
      @ilmostro16 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Why are bezels an issue on a computer? We care on a phone because the overall size of a phone matters, so the less border that isn’t screen, makes for a smaller easier to handle phone. If the bezels were smaller on the iMac, or any computer monitor, what does that accomplish actually? Yeah, it would look cooler, but isn’t a functional thing like it is on a phone. I’m sure they will shrink the bezels eventually though since that’s what people perceive as being better.

    Ohh you know I'll just buy a separate $500 GPU and a $300-$400 case for the damn thing. Just so I can get kicked in the balls when I plug it into a T3 port. And get half the half the performance.
    Ya so worth the money for me to buy. AIO computer, in which I'm forcing myself to buy other shit. Just to make it on par with say a custom built $1200 windows PC.
    I get it that your saying this is the best that Apple has to offer for there macs. But it's still feasible for someone with a regular job and salary.
    Sorry but not sorry. Apples computers are just not worth the money that your forking over.

    • @priffess
      @priffess 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The Realist Then the computer is not for you. If you feel like you'll have a "better" experience with a windows computer then go get one.
      But there are people out there that really like the Mac experience, and that values their user experience combined with the nicer design higher then a GTX 1080 Ti, that they'll never truly take advantage of.
      And that also prefers to get the "real deal" instead of trying to build a Hackintosh and constantly be worried every time a mac update comes out.
      For those people, this imac is a really good deal.

    • @Danuka100
      @Danuka100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    • @TheReal_ist
      @TheReal_ist 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Néona
      "higher than a GTX 1080 ti" wtf are you talking about here.
      Besides that ya the experience is all Apple has going for it. If maybe they had premium current hardware will be the king of the class.
      But seeing as windows does while Apple neuters there current gen products. Still with age old hardware, that isn't up to date at all.
      And I never said I wanted a hackintosh. There absolute shit due to software and driver issues. If you seriously want to go the hacking Tosh and waste all that time and effort. Then you shouldn't have a problem paying out of your ass if you're willing to pay that anyways just to have a crappy experience with Apple software.

      Ya 5k displays are nice an all.
      But let me ask you this. One do you even have the required Wi-Fi speeds to take it manage of watching 5Kcontent??? no you don't.
      And since you're not going to be watching 5K content the display will scale it down running the pictures at a lower qualities. So your paying more for a display that you will only use to look at your wallpaper.
      That's why it's not worth it to get a high-end monitor because you're never going to use that 5K 4K quality. Not today anyways

    • @drees84
      @drees84 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Two things. The iMac has gigE, so the wifi issue really is nonexistent. Content would be a better point, there is hardly any and that's counting preview videos. As for usefulness of 5k res. Apple sells a lot of machines to creatives and for them it's actually very handy to have a screen res 4k+ because it offers the opportunity to edit 4k video with room to spare or 1080p with loads of extra screen real estate left. Same goes for larger photos and other artistic projects. I'm not iMac apologist, but you should argue a bit better.

    DO NOT BUY THESE!
    They have VERY poor image retention - the screens degrade over time and the retention becomes unbearable. Burn in occurs after 2 minutes and lasts for 10+
